Title: Fox News cuts down Palin’s claim about ‘corrupt bastards’ at CBS
Post by: 240 is Back on October 31, 2010, 02:11:51 PM
I'm not sure she should be using language like this.

Sarah Palin went to war against an Alaska affiliate of CBS on Sunday, but she got little back-up in her struggle from her employer, Fox News.

Fox reporter Dan Springer says he could find no evidence of bias against Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller by CBS affiliate KTVA.

Palin surprised Fox's Chris Wallace Sunday with the claim that reporters from the CBS news affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska, had conspired to create negative news stories about Miller.

"It was revealed at the rally that I had for Joe Miller on Thursday -- it was revealed and we have the tape that proves it -- that the CBS reporters, the affiliate in Alaska, conspired to make up stories about Joe Miller. We have the tape, Chris. And I can't wait until it busts out all over the nation to show what it is that we -- kind of what I put up with for two years now with the media -- but what Joe Miller is faced with in dealing with somebody who feels -- Lisa Murkowski -- so entitled to that seat she and her people, including some complicit in the media, will do anything. They will stop at nothing," she explained.

Palin was referring to a message that was accidentally left on the voice mail of Joe Miller's spokesperson. The Miller camp claims that two CBS reporters were caught plotting to find and interview a child molester at one of Miller's rallies.
The Miller campaign and Andrew Breitbart posted the audio Saturday.

"That's sick. Those are corrupt bastards," Palin said.

On Fox`s America Live later Sunday, Dan Springer reported he could find no evidence to back up Palin's concern that KTVA is running a smear job against Miller.

"We actually had some of our staffers look at some of the more recent articles and stories that KTVA has done to see if there was any obvious bias or hit pieces against Joe Miller and we couldn't find that. We could not see any obvious signs of bias or hit pieces don by KTVA against Joe Miller," Springer said.

If this story is true she is absolutely correct.

Miller Campaign Claims Tape Shows Reporters Trying to Connect Him to 'Child Molesters'

Alaska Senate candidate Joe Miller's campaign claims it has audio proof of local reporters scheming about ways to connect the Republican nominee to "child molesters."

The Miller campaign blasted out an e-mail overnight containing a transcript and audio recording of what it claimed were reporters at CBS affiliate KTVA discussing story ideas. The conversation, according to the Miller campaign, was recorded on spokesman Randy DeSoto's voicemail apparently by accident after an assignment editor with the station called him and mistakenly left his phone on instead of hanging up.

"These folks are out there trying to create a story," Miller told Fox News.

KTVA confirmed the authenticity of the tape Sunday but rejected as "absurd" the suggestion that reporters were trying to "fabricate" a negative story about Miller.

The recording is garbled and occasionally cuts out. But one woman can clearly be heard saying, "child molesters," after another suggests they "wait until you see" who shows up -- at an event the Miller campaign claims was a rally last week.

The message, circulated by Miller and posted on YouTube, gets choppier after the opening exchange. Miller's campaign claims a woman says that, of all the people that show up at the event, "at least one of them will be a registered sex offender."

The individuals identified by the campaign as reporters also discuss sending a "Twitter and Facebook alert" if there is "any sort of chaos" at the event, which somebody on the call compares to the incident at a debate last week when a supporter of Kentucky GOP Senate candidate Rand Paul stepped on the head of a protester.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, in an interview with "Fox News Sunday," said the conversation on the call was "sick."

"We have the tape that proves it -- that the CBS reporters, the affiliate in Alaska, conspired to make up stories about Joe Miller," Palin said. "Those are corrupt bastards. ... That's what is wrong with the media today."

The Miller campaign said in a written statement that the reporters in the tape "openly discuss creating, if not fabricating" stories about the Republican candidate.

KTVA General Manager Jerry Bever issued a lengthy statement Sunday calling the recording "unfortunate because it does not accurately reflect the journalistic standards of our newsroom." But he said Miller's analysis and transcript of the recording are "inaccurate," noting that the recording only captured newsroom personnel talking at the end of a "coverage planning meeting" regarding the Anchorage rally last Thursday.

"The group of KTVA news personnel was reviewing potential 'what-if' scenarios, discussing the likelihood of events at the rally and how KTVA might logistically disseminate any breaking news," Bever said.

"The perception that this garbled, out of context recording may leave is unfortunate, but to allege that our staff was discussing or planning to create or fabricate stories regarding candidate Miller is absurd. The complete conversation was about what others might be able to do to cause disruption within the Miller campaign, not what KTVA could do," he said.

He added: "Have we had internal discussions about the level of professionalism we need to bring to our conversations, internally and externally? Of course we have, this is a lesson to learn from."

The campaign said the voicemail was first authenticated by KTVA when the assignment editor sent a text message to Miller spokesman Randy DeSoto saying, "Damn iPhone ... I left you a long message. I thought I hung up. Sorry."

"Frankly when I first heard this I was shocked," DeSoto said. "Though a bit garbled at times, there are disturbing comments in this (conversation) that never should have occurred."

Miller is running against independent candidate Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Democratic nominee Scott McAdams.

murky is whooping miller even without some BS scandal.

she should clean up her language, really.  That kinda venom will work in the primaries, but won't sell nationally.

Talk about missing the forrest for the trees.  The story here is reporters possibly trying to fabricate a story about Miller connecting him with child molesters.

the reporters suck and she has quite the platform to call them out - rightfully so.

however that kinda language is quite inappropriate.  not presidential at all.

also not very presidential on obama's part.

if you defend palin by saying "obama is also unpresidential", it's sorta a weak argument.

It is "not presidential" when the ACTUAL president says things like the following:

"If the Latino community decides to sit out this election, then there will be fewer votes and it will be less likely to get done," Obama said on the "Piolín por la Mañana" program on Univision Radio....

"And if Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, we're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us, if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's gonna be harder - and that's why I think it's so important that people focus on voting on November 2," he said.

So much for a president that was supposed to be a uniter and representative of all citizens.

Palin is getting MMMUUUCCCHHH better in her delivery.  i am 100% sure she has been taking lessons or something because if you look at how she handles interviews lately - she is getting more precise and clear in conveying things.

As for her beuing "un-presidential", please, Obama runs around with no tie on screaming about slurpees and the gears to put a car in as his public policy.

Pathetic.

Lets see, reporters discussing ways to try to invent a scandle at a senate candidates campaign.Hmmmm, what would you call those trying to do that?Id call them corrupt bastards or worse.Of course, libs are allowed to use this language like Browns campaign calling Whitman a whore and libs are dead silent on it or laught it away.

By the way, real clear has the race a dead heat, not quite sure where you see she is killing him.I still think he will win.I find it amusing that you call this race a blowout but still think Crist will win.Very very strange the way you interpret numbers and races.A dead heat is seen as a blowout and a 17 pt lead is only seen as a 60% chance of victory.lol.

Hardly! If you check out RCP, only ONE POLL has Murkowski in the lead. That poll sample just over 400 likely voters. The rest have them either tied or Miller slightly ahead (with the most recent, sampling over 1500 likely voters, having Miller up by 7).

Keep in mind, thanks to that stunt by the Murkowski backers and the Alaskan Supreme Court, there are going to be a bazillion write-in candidates. I think it'll be close, but Miller takes it.
