Title: Opinions: the more hours a week you work, the more admirable?
Post by: Deicide on November 02, 2010, 02:40:32 PM
What do you think?

Is a man who works 80 hours a week with no holiday time more admirable than a man who works 40 hours a week with a month off each year?

No, but a man who makes 7 figures is more admirable than a man who makes 6 fig.

Depends.

Agree - I would only consider doing 80 hours a week if I was guaranteed of making shit loads of money doing so - missing out on holidays wouldn't bother me as long as I enjoyed what I was doing. I would quite happily work an 80 hour week if I enjoyed it rather than a 40 hour week if the work sucked and/or was low paying.

I did it for one year and I don't wanna go back to it. I think if you see light at the end of the tunnel, you can do it for a few years.

In my new FT job i work 37.5 and i do 6-15hrs a week on the door most weeks. I am feeling tired already at my first week and will be heading to bed by midnight instead of the 4am bedtimes I was used to.

The door currently pays a luttle better per hr but is more risk and can feel at times a burden when I am tired. When I am not tired I enjoy it thouroughly and enjoy helping people and solving problems.

What I do is not admirable though I would liek to save a few extra thousand pounds in the next few months.

some of you sound like you need to start appreciate your free time more. You can't take money with you,you know. You could die any day at anytime.
Spend some quality time with family, kids, wife, friends or whoever. Have fun while you still have your health.
Work so you can live, do not live so you can work.
My $0.02.

Peace

Work - making money to fuel hobbies/social activities.
Never understood the folks who wallow in their stress of business... which barely makes them 2k a month.

I would say the guy who wrote the book "A 4 hour work week" and made millions would probably laugh at the idea of it being admirable to work more.

99 times out of 100, working longer just means working less efficient.
