So post your year you were born and when you wished you were born.
87 it's cool and all were the inbetween gen that knows what it's like to live without/with the interenet equally. Just going to school and reliezing there's a whole generation of kids that don't know what its like to be disconnected from the net for more than 5 minute intervals freaks me out./
I wish I was born in 62. would of been born at just the right time to see pumping iron(15) would of been around the cool as 80's. And I'd still be able to post on here today.

the only permanent in this world is change... unfortunately sometimes the change will go through some various, ehm, "mutations" before it changes for the better but I think at the end, it will all go for the better... through shit and storm.
-
no one wants you to be born. and no one cares if you're 'inbetween' too

1998-2005. Life was good when Ronnie Coleman's Mr. O

Sorry I don't speak finnish but all I can say all times are generally equal, but if you have interest in certain things some times are better than others. Wanting to have condom free sex every night of the week was much easier 30 years ago than it is now. Just the same if you wanna play guitar in a band it was much easier 30 years ago than it is now.

The 80's and early 90's were a great time to be in a band. The music scene has changed drastically in that time, and not for the better. Can't say as I miss having 'big hair' though, but at least I've still got the hair.
I was born in 68 and I started lifting after seeing Pumping Iron and prepping to hit football tryouts. Supplements tasted like shit back then though.

Lol the hair thing is one of the few reason I'm glad to be alive in this day and age. It must of sucked having a shaved head back in the 70's. Now with the advent of ufc and multiracial culture, it's kinda excepted.

Haha yeah. Back in the day you HAD to have hair to get laid and the longer/bigger the better. If you were bald you ended up having one huge arm. ;)

FUCK OFF!!!! ;D 70's hair = man hair :P
Anyway, about your reply to mine, I was merely referring to your rant on today's faults... that the only permanent thing is change, wether it requires internets, new age sciences, the arrival of the antichrist etc... whatever it takes, change will happend and the course won't change.

Born in '64 so I grew up in the 70's as an early teen, 80's in my late teens, and 90's in my late 20's. Living in the SF Bay Area, I got to see a lot of major changes.

I think living as a Native American in a place like the west coast before it was untouched by white man would have been a pretty fucking amazing life. Hard yet very rewarding. I mean shit think about it.......life is so fake nowadays especially being a man. Back then you had to literally protect your family, be brave, courageous, fight off animals, fight off other males/tribes, hunt, survive winter. What do most men do nowadays? Go to the gym and lift weights? Drive around in a car and go to a job in an office?

ive thought about this extensively; here are some ideal scenarios:
1. born 1900 in britain...would get to live at the height of the empire, travel and see the world from the perspective/time when we ruled the earth..too young for WW1 and too old for WW2 but still get to live thru the experience
2. id like to have been my current age during the american eras of the 20's, 50's or the 80's
-
Prehistoric was the ideal. no worries for anything. no money no nothing.

Rome in the age of Julius Caesar?
Greece in the age of Pericles?
Philadelphia in the 1770's?
Paris in the 1850's, or, later, the start of Impressionism?
London in the Age of Discovery?
Maybe hanging with Dom Perignon, sampling his wares, until he got it right? ;D

I gotta admit having been a young kid in the 1980s it was a very cool time. In fact I think the 80s was one of the coolest times to grow up in as a kid. It was the last decade before everything became so fucking politically correct and pussified. I couldn't imagine being a young kid nowadays. Fucking pathetic the environment kids are growing up in nowadays. When I was a kid we still played tag and rough housed at recess and teased the girls and made them cry.

Gripe all you want about how the world is going to hell in a handbasket but today is pretty good by comparison. Ya plenty of people are still hurting but we've got the broadest benevolent government for the greatest percentage of the planet's population, along with a decent quality and length of life, than at any time in history. Pick any past era and you've got to include the caveat "...as long as I'm not one of the many peons."
Not that I think we're making great decisions or anything. If we're not careful, this might be remembered as The Good Time.

So what if we have an increased length of life. Most people living till their 80s and 90s are wrought with chronic health problems that make the last years of their lives miserable. I'd rather burn out than fade away .

Most surveys show that older people are actually happier, even though they are old wrinked and disgusting to look at. ???

Quality of life is clearly better today than in the past for the common man.

Lol of course because being young is so shitty with work. I'd rather die younger and have less stress and bullshit to deal with. Ha! Lifespan was - what? - at most, 28? Or, until your teeth fell out, and you couldn't feed yourself. ;D
That dependant on where you weere there was no sugar or sweets really until well after agriculture. If you had a good terrirtory hunting all day was fucking sweet, you'd make it to about 55, but you'd already have grandkids, by then, instaed of now where your luck to have kids in high school.

The 1990's was pretty fucking good. Sure was a lot better than today.

The 1980s were the best time for most. If you have money, now.

I was a child a decade earlier, but this statement still applies.
I see very few kids outside these days as most are glued to their electronics indoors.

My thoughts are the computer has basically caused everyone on a mass level to tune out of everyday life in terms of diet fitness etc.

15 yrs ago was better, when the living standard was already high from a technical standpoint, but the internet didn't rule quite everything yet.
80s and 90s were the best times ever I guess. From now on it's going downhill.

Bullshit you can't deny the fundmental shift in culture that the internets brot with it.
Trivial shit like steriods would be way more unknown if you had to rely on honest gym rats. Live bands were killed by dj's.
Were living in a shit time for old school americana.

You got a pathological syndrom to whitewash anything concerning yourself, even the current era u gotta live in.

this. 80's was the perfect balance; plenty of technology and high standard of living, but technology and surveilance and internet/media control of everything and instantism/generation nothing were still a long way off.
these days we are only a step away from big brother/police state/complete personal incompetence and emptiness

Yup. I remember being 16 in 1990 going into bars and it being no big deal, you could do stupid shit and it not result in a felony, etc etc.
Young people have no clue how fun it used to be.

That's true.
You could do a lot of shit in the 90s that you would end up in jail for today.

Ditto. People saying some past date was better are just romanticising things. The 90s was better than the 80s, which was better than the 70s and so on.
One of those decades might be better than a later one, but only in regards to one small aspect of life, like music or whatever.
-

The best thing is, in 2010 you can listen to all music form the 80s, 70s, 18th century, 2010. Isn't that great?
And last month i bought Commando on BluRay and watched that on my widescreen TV, beats VHS by a mile, don't you think?
I don't want to live in the past, maybe the future is better, but nobody knows that. (Edit: except gh15, of course.)

go live in the woods for a couple days and we'll see how much you like it
::) I spent 4 weeks backpacking the Pacific Crest Trail. I actually "lived in the woods" when I was 21 years old in Leadville, Colorado for 6 months with no heat, no electricity, only the water I could boil, and all the food I could pack in. Short of packing in food it was pretty rustic. It was the most amazing time of my life. I spent the days paddling down the Arkansas, hiking, etc. I've spent so much time in the "woods" that I've come home and had to scrub my skin for days to get the mud, dirt, and stench off me. It's a spiritual experience.
Most guys on in this thread who love their technology couldn't last one night sleeping in an RV without their flat screens, cell phones, and porn.

1950's US.

The 1920's would be my choice to go back in time and live. I like the music, clothes, the fact that this was a seminal time in science and technology...So many things were just being conceived...Broadcasting, television, automotive cultures.
-
Was born in 62.. Pretty happy with experiencing the 70's growing up. I think it would have been cool to be born in 1950 to experience the hey day of the Summer of Love and all the late 60's scene but with my luck I would have been drafted and killed in what turned out to be a senseless war.
Frank Sinatra makes a case for being around in the early 60's. Man if I could have lived anyones life, it would probably have been his..
But all in all, I'm pretty happy with the era I grew up in. It gave us the Partridge Family
