Title: I thought the YMCA was suppose to be cheap...
Post by: Cy Tolliver on November 14, 2010, 01:52:59 PM
Individual: $49.00 Per Month where I live, and a "one time joining fee" of $75.00...

I don't know how all these poor black kids manage to pay that bill...  :o

Been to a few over the years and never found them to be a good value, either for the urine bath pool or gym.

That's how I remember it.  I didn't even like sitting on the benches in the locker room.  Bunch of damp old man scroats getting squished around on them all hours.

i worked at the ymca when i was in my late teens, and i know that the ones in canada have a "membership assistance program" so that those who cannot afford to pay the full rate can get a subsidized membership if they can provide evidence that they're struggling somewhat with the cost of living (by showing proof of their monthly income and expenses.)

because the ymca is (still) a charity, it tends to have a disproportionate number of members who are poor, and ethnic as well.  now in principle, i have no problem with poor people and ethnic folks working out in the same gym as me, but when you have people who can't afford deodorant who are also a certain ethnicity, the stench is practically unbearable.

Yep, and I even live in the Midwest.  You can get a nice 4000 sqft home here for only $275k, yet a Y membership is $90.00....  ;D

i don't care either way, but we have one of the nicer YMCA's, and I can't afford to workout there yet Julio from the projects can....  ;D

last time I was in a ymca was over 10 years ago.  a bro of mine had a membership and I went with him a couple times on a guest pass.  sounded like a good idea, being able to swim after a workout.  anyways, we walk into the locker room to change after the workout... and there are the showers all lined up.  this dude who was obviously there with his kids or whatever, he turns around and so do all 3 of his little boys full front on looking at us.  4 small ass dicks presented to us in unison, and they are just standing there looking at us.  my buddy starts cracking up and so did I after seeing his reaction.  the stoic look on their faces and just the way they acted made it like something out of the fucking gay twilight zone.

that, coupled with the old gents kicking it nude whilst reading newspapers was more than enough for me.  I haven't been back since  ;D

It depends on the YMCA branch;  The downtown Houston YMCA was great.  Machines and a freeweight room with so much mass it has an event horizon...The pool was superb and an old fashion steam room with no perverts.  They would provide freshly laundered workout clothes for the members...Having a uniform of sorts such as this made it a very civilized place to work out...

buy a multi angle heavy duty bench, 2 heavy duty adjustable dumbbells, lots of thin pro style weight plates and you'll never need another gym membership again.

a few hundred in the short term saves you thousand long term  ;) plus no old mens balls to look at, no shit music, no waiting on bench etc.

you could also add a safety cage and barbell to that list if you had the space.

Why do I even reply to this bullshit?

Look, fatass, a bench and some dumbbells are good for a 13 year old kid getting into working out, but after a few months or so you would want to get into a gym to have a better variety of exercises, guidance from a trainer and and and.
But, just by looking how many bodybuilders have build their body only with two dumbells and a bench should have answered your stupid question. Why the fuck do you think Ronnie Coleman has a fully equipped gym build into his house if a bench and to "heavy ass dumbbells" would be sufficient?

You can have even have a better workout if you only have a barbell than two dumbells.

You have no clue about working out, it's really a shame how delusional you are.

I never had a problem with that. And my gym was mostly me and refugee's playing soccer( payed 30 buck a month student rate.). My uni gym which is more expensive is ten times the fuck worst. "some" Arabs and persians fucking stink, It's more than I can take, these fucks are worth money, they just don't know what soap is. I' mean there will literally be 30 guys sweating there nuts off and it don't smell one Persian fellar walks in and the whole fucking room stinks. It's a bit much the way that one guy can smell were than 30-40 people.
