Title: Millionaire Tax Cuts
Post by: Benny B on November 19, 2010, 06:44:32 AM
Does anyone actually have data showing that giving millionaires tax breaks creates jobs? How many jobs would that be? For all those who claim that it is so, please provide the data so we can have an honest discussion about it.

A table would be nice: in the left hand column, the income bracket and the tax breaks based on the current rates; in the right hand column, the number of jobs created. You know, what we in the old days used to call “facts” to back up the argument that we need to bail out the rich because they need to get richer because “everyone knows” that what follows is jobs (aka “trickle-down theory” or Reaganomics). Really? If it worked so well, where are the jobs now? And did you know who said "money was all appropriated for the top in hopes that it would trickle down to the needy”? That was Will Rogers during the Great Depression. Some ideas never die, no matter how many times they fail.

There's no way you copy and pasted that on your own without drooling on your keyboard. Some attribution would be nice LaWanda.

Yeah - lets give the govt 700 billion more to piss down the rat hole instead of allowing people who earned it to keep their own money.   ::)  ::)

Forty-seven millionaires pulled together by the Agenda Project are asking Barack Obama to allow the expiration of tax cuts George W. Bush gave them and anyone earning more than $1 million a year. Their web site, Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength, includes the following letter and a place where other millionaires can sign:

We are writing to urge you to stand firm against those who would put politics ahead of their country.

For the fiscal health of our nation and the well-being of our fellow citizens, we ask that you allow tax cuts on incomes over $1,000,000 to expire at the end of this year as scheduled.

We make this request as loyal citizens who now or in the past earned an income of $1,000,000 per year or more.

We have done very well over the last several years. Now, during our nation’s moment of need, we are eager to do our fair share. We don’t need more tax cuts, and we understand that cutting our taxes will increase the deficit and the debt burden carried by other taxpayers. The country needs to meet its financial obligations in a just and responsible way.

Letting tax cuts for incomes over $1,000,000 expire, is an important step in that direction.

Among the 47: Rob Lipp, a senior partner at Brysam Global Partners and previously on the board of JP Morgan Chase who helped that firm acquire Bear Stearns in 2008. Ben Cohen, co-founder of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. Peter Norvig, director of research at Google, Inc. Gail Furman, a psychologist who has been a major donor to the Tides Foundation and Media Matters. Sybil Shainwald, an attorney who is a major litigator on women's health issues. George Zimmer, CEO and founder of Men's Wearhouse.

Forty-seven. It's a start - around 1/100th of a percent of the total number of Americans whose income was $1 million or more last year.

As Joe Conason at Salon notes, the millionaires' announcement appeared the same day as a study by the Center for Responsive Politics showing that 261 Senators and Representatives in Congress are millionaires, nearly half the total membership.

How many of them do you suppose are patriotic enough to sign that letter to the President?

Case closed.  Go back to worshipping obama somewhere else.  Now that James exposed you for being a liar, a thief, a plagiarizer, you re now in the same boat as blacken.

Additionally, you can't mock someone elses' body without posting your own.

Either post your own or stop making a fool of yourself.

What "case closed," you fat little turd? What did James "expose?" I have posted things without links before, and I will continue to do so. Not going anywhere, PEA BRAIN.

Post your pics up again, since you are so proud of them. There are people who may have missed them.

Maybe after you wipe off "BILLY's" jizz you can come over and LICK MY BALLS.  ;D

Palin? Yes, the closer she gets to the nomination, and I LOVE IT!

Remember PEA BRAIN, I endorsed Palin for prez in 2012 here on getbig before anyone else. I am her biggest supporter here, back when you were still showing your sexist tendencies.

If tax cuts for wealthy people create jobs then Bush would have been the champion job creator.
Instead he has the worst record of any modern POTUS ( even Jimmy Carter beat the snot out of him on this one).

Um, creating jobs would mean the economy was down and you picked it back up......under Bush the economy was BOOMING for 6 or 7 years, so therefore growth, ie: creation of jobs, would not be as high.

I thought Repubs like to pretend he inherited a recession from Clinton.

bottom line is that Bush gave out the biggest tax cut in history (to my recollection) to very high income earners and had almost no job growth to show for it.

If tax cuts = job growth then surely we'd see some of it in the numbers, especially since the economy was, as you say...BOOMING

The dept of labor considers 5% full employment, what was the # under Bush again? 4%?

But please continue with the class warfare bullshit ::)

I didn't say tax hikes create jobs did I?

I said tax cuts don't create jobs

that's a proven fact

Do tax cuts alone directly create jobs? No.

As a piece of a broader, comprehensive plan? Yes.

Anyone that says, in broad terms, that tax cuts are bad or tax hikes on certain people etc etc and uses the "TAX CUTS DON'T CREATE JOBS" hysterical stupidness is totally missing the fucking point. Either because they are daft or just trying to be a drama queen.

What Kazan said is correct, the unemployment rate under Bush was very low, meaning most everyone that wanted to work had a job...you can't experience job growth when you don't need it. So you're right, there wasn't massive job growth under Bush, why? People already had jobs.

Why so many can't understand something so simple is the most confusing thing of all.
