Title: Seems like we may see a TOP HW boxer in MMA!
Post by: Darren Avey on November 20, 2010, 02:06:07 AM
David Haye wants to retire from boxing in a year and is very interested in going into MMA. I dont have a specific link but he has said it in countless interviews including one on sky sports news last week!

He's been saying this for a few years now but as much as I hate MMA he will get slaughtered unless he learns to dry hump.

if this is true then hes an idiot......

so much more money in heavyweight boxing even though we're in the worst era of the heavyweights

if i were him i'd be lookin to make my mark as the best heavyweight in a while and increase my bank balance,,, if he gives up on boxing to become a mediocre mma fighter with no fight purses etc...... he will end up regretting it..... he will retire with no money and be a poor old man someday

I can't see that happening somehow. Haye is smarter than that and he'll do a Calzaghe and retire for good going out on top as soon as he beats one or both of the Klitschko's.

well if he did MMA, he could do extremly well.
Hes not James Toney who's slow, fat, a light puncher and flat footed (albeit incredible skill on the inside).
Haye would easily be the hardest puncher in MMA; very fast not just with his fists but also with his feet and head.

Supposedly the guy has a 25-1 record, not too shabby...

P.S. While promising, he does look more suited for Gay Black Porn...

I love how people just throw shit out there like they know lol!

Would be cool though., But it would take him years to reach a decent level I hope he understands..

Top= UFC champ or just being in the UFC.?

just being in the ufc would be huge for him and that would take years if he wasn't well known.

But dana knows him, and he has been "ringside", so maby 18 months or a little more and dana might give him a shot.

But against a wrestler or a high level grappler it woould just be total domination anyway... And giving him to someone who would stand would be unfair? I dunno
Entertaining either way and I hope he takes it serious.

David Haye needs to stop ducking the Klitschko's. He is making himself look very silly.

Why the fuck would he go to mma to earn peanuts? Nobody even follows mma in europe, he would go to being in the headlines to getting zero coverage. The Harrison fight was appalling. His last three ppv's have been appalling. He is just looking to make money.

In regards to mma, depends what his grappling is like, if he has decent defensive grappling, he would slaughter anyone in the heavyweight division. He has durability issues though so could get caught and put to sleep once in a while.

Think a more technical, fast, explosive, mobile, version of Overeem standing. With about the same gas tank and durability. Not close to the same physical strength as Overeem though.

you have nooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooo clue about that...

Mma gas tank and boxing gas tank are 2 Completly different things..

Im not saying he has a bad gastank obviously, but you cannot compare like that and not have ANything to base it upon besides boxing..

They both have bad stamina within their respective sports. Haye's isn't going to get better with wrestling involved.

So you're saying bad stamina in boxing and bad stamia in mma puts their stamina on the same level?

I'm saying they are both renowned for having bad stamina. It was a generalistic comparison. Add wrestling and grappling and Haye's stamina is probably several times worse than Overeem's lol.

Thats what I was trying to say lol.

Would be nice to see some Super high level boxing in mma though. it Will be fun if it looks as good with different stance! =)

Hard to believe someone would give up big time boxing paydays to go to MMA and make thousands as opposed to millions...

Rampage and Bisping suck too. :D

He isn't gong to do mma, he fights about once a year and is avoiding the two best fighters in the division.

He is in it for cash, and mma has a lot less cash than boxing.

Any top boxer would kill in MMA if they only took a year or two to learn stuffing takedown's/sprawl's and checking kick's plus some ground basics, they already have the most sought after thing in fighting, amazing hands

James Toney made 500k just go get taken down and jabbed a little. Dana didn't even want this guy.

"-Randy Couture: $250,000 (no win bonus) def. James Toney: $500,000"

Why "ha ha oh brother" - a four/five years ago I don't think Haye would have stood a chance against the Klitschkos - now I'm not so sure - Haye is at the top of his game right now and the Klitschkos are past their prime, still good mind you, but Haye has got a great chance against either of them. I could easily see him winning.

Ok...I guess thats what we all love about fighting...the uncertainty...I think its a long shot that Haye would make it 12 rds against either Klitschko let alone win...but yea if he manages to duck them a while longer who knows maybe he can knock them out their wheelchair and claim a victory...

Haye likes to counter, he has no clue how to push the pace of a fight, hence his long periods of inactivity when the other guy isn't giving him anything to counter off of. He wouldn't engage Valuev who has no power whatsoever for fear of getting caught, i don't see him doing much.

He doesn't have the durability to take the punishment that someone like Brewster did and he isn't comfortable being a swarmer so is unlikely to try to speed blitz Wlad. It just isn't his style.
He has a punchers chance against Wlad. But Wlad has a great jab that will be hard to counter off of.

Against Vitali he should just hope that he gets old overnight. Vitali throws about a thousand punches a fight and can take Haye's power. Best he could do is what he did against Valuev and just run the whole night and not engage, Vitali has slowed down in recent years and all of the injuries are catching up to him. So Haye may be able to use the speed advantage if he is really disciplined.
