I always wanted to be one but felt that being tall I would get shot easier.
Also I would probably get booted for letting pot smokers go.

There are 2 sorts of cops. The one where it's been a family tradition of grandad, dad, & son all being cops. Then you have the motherfuckers who do it because they love the power & fucking with normal people.
I'd never want to be a cop...detective maybe.

Whats the best way to get out of tickets at traffic stops?

Whats the best way to get out of tickets at traffic stops?
Apologize to the officer that you were speeding and tell them that you were rushing home to a family emergency. Dishonest but 90 per cent of the time it will work
-
If it is a motorcycle cop, there is no way. They only write tickets as 95% of their job and there is just nothing you say that is going to get out out of it. It's nothing personal, they are just in the business of enforcing traffic laws and writing tickets.
The patrol officer who writes tickets in between 911 calls, are more likely to give warnings. Just keep your hands on the steering wheel, announce you are reaching for your insurance, registration, wallet before you do it, smile, and if you were actually commiting the violation they stopped you for, own up to it with a " Yeah, when I saw your lights, I looked down and was surprised to see how fast I was going, I am normally pretty good about keeping it below the speed limit" We are so geared to hear the typical denials and muttering under the breath that the rare person taking responsibility for their actions might catch us off guard and warrant a warning.
Just know that your admission, if it fails, will cost you the court case if you are one of those who fight every ticket regardless of whether you were guilty or not. Cops will write the qoutes down on the backs of their copies for future reference.

would work 0% with me. What you are saying is "I was speeding but I'm giving you an excuse and not taking responsiblity for my speeding" And we hear every excuse you can imagine with about 7 family emergencies each day. Your's would be number 8. If it worked for you in the past, great, but your best bet is not trying to be dramatic..

So in other words, its best to just keep the mouth shut. The lawyer has always been my best route anyways as I have never bothered with excuses as I never say a word when I am stopped. I was once cited for competition speed racing (a charge here worse than a DUI or DWI) in my Lotus. 5,000 dollars to a good lawyer left the cops unable to prove anything as there was no radar taken, just sight and they only caught me because I forgot to close the garage door. They never "saw" me in the car. So they couldn`t place me in the car. Oh well. Waste of money on my end, waste of tax payers money, waste all the way around. The only one smiling was the lawyer.

Would you go away if I gave you twenty bucks or a hundred? I know that is a charge in itself, bribery, but does that ever work?
-
A cop? No.
A (federal) judge? Yes.
-
Take all of your tickets to court. I do and it gets you them completely dismissed if the cop doesn't show, or they will bargain them down so they don't have to spend anymore time there fighting it out with you. I had a 30 over ticket plus failure to signal. They dropped the signal one and dropped the 30 over to 20 over when I showed up ready to fight them.
Even if you're in the wrong, just show up to court and they will want to bargain them down to keep it from carrying on. They'll usually have 5-10 others there that same day fighting similar tickets. All they want is to get you the fuk out of there so they can't get the fuk out of there.

I make 120K a year, so in order to risk losing that job, it would cost you a minimum of $20,000 to get out of the ticket.

How would you lose your job from accepting a hundred dollar bill? Perhaps it just falls on the ground. I don`t understand. ???

You make that much as a cop? Or are you in some special unit?

Just a cop.. but our pay scale tops out at 16 yrs, I've been here 18. Started at 11 bucks an hour and never got in this to get rich. Hell, I would have done it for free in the beginning if my room and board was paid. But as years went by, and citizens wanted and deserved a more pofessional police force, they had to compete against other departments for the best recruit pool. In the last 10 yrs we have experienced a pay increase that puts us at the top of the ladder as far as police departments in Texas and relatively speaking, nation wide. With that money, came video recording, extremely high standards, high expectations from the public and what I feel is a pretty professional, high tech, forward thinking department..

Well, every stop is recorded, video and audio. And there is the risk that you would later report the bribe to internal affairs. Monetary bribes are pretty rare. I can only think of about 3 in 18 yrs. Sex from intoxicated women is a lot more common. I can think of 2 officers that lost their jobs because of that.. My paranoia has served me well. I always figure that the one time I did something wrong, I'd get caught. So while it was tempting to think about taking the 20 something blonde up on ther offer, I could see myself in Internal Affairs next week wondering why I risked the best job in the world over something like that...

Does your conscious ever bother you if you are enforcing a law that you do not agree with whatsoever?
-

Holy crap - I think we'd all be cops if we were getting paid 120k a year!

Well there is a back ground check..
-

Not really. I think pot and prostitution should be de-criminalized but figure there is a process in place to change the law if people really wanted it changed.... Just because I don't agree with the law doesn't mean I don't enforce it. Sometimes I say to myself "This is some stupid shit" but that's about it

ive been thinking of maybe becoming one lately. the one thing i would NOT want to do however is handing out tickets to honest citizens on cheap, trivial technicalities.
agnostic, is there a way to be a cop and NOT have to do the 'writing tickets for not coming to a complete stop' crap, or does everyone have to do that at some point?

you would first be assigned to patrol once you graduated the academy. These days patrol officers are so busy running from call to call it's not that often we have time to write tickets for minor violations and it is left up to your descretion on writing for minor ones. You would be expected to write for violations like running a red light (not just barely missing the yellow), blowing stop signs at faster than 5mph, having a baby not fastened in, things like that, but we are left alone to enforce what we can inbetween shaggin calls.

Yep that is what my bro is 55. I was supposed to retire at 40 but that got fucked up. So I have 55 now. I am on track for a great retirement. I have a 40' Class A I am looking at to buy now cause the prioce is right. Plus my friend just moved into a huge house with a huge backyard and said I could store it there no charge just let him take it out every once in awhile. I want one so I can travel and see the sights. Plus it has those slideoout things and it is awesome. I had some photos somewhere. Anyway, can't wait to no have to do anything anymore.

cool so it would mostly be responding to calls, with giving out tickets left up to your own discretion in between calls? are you required to hand out a certain amount of tickets?

all cops bullshit their way around probable cause

It works like this. You are on a shift with 9 other guys. If those other guys are averaging 1 or 2 tickets a day, then your Sergeant might notice you aren't contributing and eventually say something. Say what we will about traffic tickets, some people are just a hazard out on the road and need a reminder every now and then that they need to pay attention. So most people drive reasonably out of fear they may get a ticket. If they continue to speed, or run red lights and see they aren't getting stopped by police that are in the area, they get bolder until they end up hurting themselves (which I don't really mind) or worse, hurting others. So tickets are a necessary evil.
When I was a Sergeant, my philosophy was that in a 10 hr shift, barring any wild crazy nights, you will be able to see and stop at least 1 vehicle that was creating a hazard with their driving.. so on a 4 day work week, if tickets were in the 3 or better range I wouldn't say anything. Some officers love traffic enforcement, some hate it...

I've dreamed of being in the RCMP ever since I was a kid in canada, they get a lot of respect in rural areas atleast from the people we know. Than again they usually bust people for drinking on roads that are loaded with moose, drinking beer whereever we want, or speeding on roads that are loaded with moose.
Plus chicks that dig mounties are usually ultra gear.(hot conservative/ and they like a guy that's fit) still wanna do it, but I doubt I could pass the pysch profile's to save my life. (no joke) cousin's husband blew them and he seemed normal.
I donno I generally don't like american cops, just because the structure is way to subjective. You gotta have just the right number of tickets in a days, would you give them out to people that seem like you(nice white chaps) or thugs driving cadi's with 2pac blarring?
-

I think it varies by state. I've had A LOT of speeding tickets and ALWAYS show up at court. The officer has never been there. I literally say two words - no contest - get the points reduced, pay the fine and leave.

that doesnt sound too bad. are you allowed to stop people for driving too slowly? i firmly believe that for the most part its the old people and space cadets who are going along 15 under the speed limit are the biggest threats because they are completely not paying attention and/or mentally slow and are therefore far more likely to do something stupid on the roads than someone who is going 15 over but focusing 100% on driving carefully

I knew cops were overpaid.
and cop pensions are 2mil or so of free money from taxpayer
I say end em along with other union pensions now

You can't arrest people for going to slow they could just be having an off day, and don't wanna fuck around. I know what you mean but there's no way to screen for it.
But whatever yesterday saw some mofo clear a red light with a cellphone in his hands that's fucking aggravating.

"impeding the flow of traffic" is a citation title in texas. Slow drivers can also be an indication of intoxication.. especially if sparks are flying from the bare wheel because they hadn't noticed they drove the rubber off the flat tire 10 miles back..

So are football players, news casters, actors, college football coaches etc etc depending on how you look at it..

Um I wouldn't admit to it, it's bad for the force in general. I know in canada you get paid pretty sick, but they have highly highly selective screening more so than seals/elite whatever, so they can't get people that wanna spent there first 5 years posted in the high artic talking shit from an eskimo with a rifle.

I would love to be a cop.
