Pretty dumb thing to say. Liberals still engaging in class warfare.
Dem likens working with GOP on taxes to negotiating with 'terrorists'
By: CNN Congressional Producer Ted Barrett
(CNN) - Sen. Robert Menendez said Friday that if the Democratic-controlled Senate agrees to extend all of the Bush-era tax cuts it could be akin to acceding to terrorist demands. Republicans immediately blasted the New Jersey Democrat for his comparison.
Menendez asked at a news conference, "Does the majority not only have a responsibility to get something done but to get something done that makes sense for the country?"
"Do you allow yourself to be held hostage and get something done for the sake of getting something done, when in fact it might be perverse to the ultimate results? It's almost like the question of do you negotiate with terrorists?"
In a statement titled, "Menendez Compares GOP to Terrorists," the office of House Republican Whip Eric Cantor responded, " Um…No Senator, it is not. Not at all."
An aide to Menendez said the senator was talking about how the negotiations are proceeding, not about the Republicans personally.
"It's not surprising that some are eager to take a comment out of context in order to change the subject from the Republican millionaires-first plan," said spokesman Afshin Mohamadi. "The critical point for middle class Americans remains that Republicans have chosen to jeopardize tax cuts for every middle class family in order to guarantee an average tax cut of $104,000 for each millionaire."

There is no class warfare in the US
The was is over and the wealthy have won
Since 1979 the top 10% have seen ~ 64% of all income growth
Personal and Corporate taxes have never been lower
By almost anyones estimate our country's financial situation is a trainwreck
somehow were still supposed to feel sorry for the upper 10% or upper 3% or upper 1%?
-
LMAO straw how are taxes going to change that?
they ppl who take the risk are the ppl who are going to see the rewards...
again NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO RAISE TAXES ON ANYONE...

Does anyone remember the 1990's when the government choked out the captilist system with it's strident and draconian tax code
We're talking about raising marginal tax rates ~ 3%
back to the rates we had in the 1990's
people on the right are trying to make the the equivalent of a communist uprising
fucking hiliarious (if we weren't so fucked up that is)

Its not just income taxes - its capital gains, the death tax, etc.
The estate tax going to $1 million exemption is CRIMINAL!

you mean back to the way it was in the 1990's
OMG - surely it's a sign of the End Times !
According to Bloomberg News, the Congressional Research Service (CRS) estimates that the Democratic majority's proposal of a $3.5 million exemption would subject just 0.25 percent of U.S. estates to any tax in 2011 and generate $18.1 billion in revenue. The Republicans' proposal of a $5 million exemption would involve only 0.14 percent of estates paying any tax and would generate $11.2 billion, according to the CRS, while the $1 million exclusion that will be in the tax code if Congress does nothing will affect 1.76 percent of estates and generate $34.4 billion in revenue.

Who asked you to feel sorry for anyone? I don't begrudge anyone for making money and the government has no business deciding who should earn what.

This is one of the things that makes me most upset about class warfare. You have politicians in DC telling people that some number they pulled out of their rear end is "too much" money to earn without getting nailed by taxes.

Not to mention the fact that most of these same disgusting assholes in govt never worked a day in the lives, never provided a product or service subject to free market competition, etc.

Yep. That's pretty much true of the president too.
Those folks need to stop creating camps and focus on letting everyone who pays taxes keep more of their own money.
