Why all the sympathy for people with diabetes?
Didn't they bring it on themselves?
Why not redirect that sympathy towards people who have cancer?
-
if i can't make fun of the condition i have no sympathy for them...

Are you sure all people have more control over their eating habits than their cell mutations?

My Dad got it after he was treated for pneumonia.
His airways were closing, he was going blue and they gave him massive doses of steroids which worked to help him breathe again.
Blew his blood sugar up over 30 (desired max 6) for the duration of his stay in hospital. He is now a non insulin dependent type 2 diabetic. He has to stick himself with needles all day long to monitor his blood sugar and he HATES it. Most of the time I have to test his blood for him and make sure he eats.
I hate it too.
I forgive you, but it wasn't easy.

It's all good. I am just furious with how it's taken over his life and by definition mine. Didn't see it coming.
He can't eat what he wants, when he wants, can get seriously messed up by one drink if he's had a stressful day. A high reading can have him too tired to do anything for the rest of the day. And I get to hear it. And then say sorry before I stick him with a needle to get the latest blood reading, which I submit to his doctor. Anytime Dad bitches too much I remind him he could be injecting insulin as well. That shuts him up.
It blows my mind bodybuilders are using insulin in their routine to get godly. But it's a different thing in a young fit user versus someone who is ill I guess.
Carry on.

Answer to the first bolded question:
Not necessarily..
There are two types of Diabetes, Diabetes type I and II.
If you have diabetes type I, this type results from autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. The subsequent lack of insulin due to genetic mutations at birth as in the case of type I diabetes, renders you unable to have a say or choice in the matter.
If you have diabetes type II, while it can be brought about by medications, it is usually the result of lifestyle and bad eating habits, obesity has been found to contribute to approximately 55% of cases of type 2 diabetes and decreasing consumption of saturated fats and trans fatty acids while replacing them with unsaturated fats may decrease the risk of developing it.

risk of cancer can also be minimized with knowledge you can attain, just like diabetes. but I still don't think people are at fault for bringing it on themselves.
