My wife has the iphone4 - the desire beats the iPhone not by much but still its better - its faster in getting webpages displayed, it feels better not as big as the iPhone.
Android rocks, no itunes (fucking shit) that rocks, screen is bigger, screen looks crisper, the photos look crisper on the desire.
Never had a smartphone, I am not a techboy that needs always the latest gadget, but I get it now its pretty cool.

As I said I never had a smart phone and never understood the hype - well I get it now, its pretty cool.
I like the Iphone4 as well but the Desire is much more versatile - its so much easier to setup you own working enviroment - cool is that you can have as many as you like and save them so I have one for work which I can switch to in the morning and one for downtime which I switch when I am out of the office.

Whats the reason or better advantages to root the phone?
-
Its hilarious that everyone saying Android is much better to cater to their needs hasnt jailbroken their phones or seen a jailbroken iphone.
-
Why? Does you iPhone act as a wireless hotspot? Can you watch porn on any site? No? HTC desire my friend, mine is over clocked too runs sweet

if you root it you can control you apps directly. let me put it in this way, root - total admin control .
one more thing some of the best apps require root access.
just take a look , you gonna need this bro :

I have a Desire but don't use it much since I got an iPad. Now if I want the internet I use my wireless at home or log onto free wireless at MacDonalds. The phones are great but way too small. I used to take 5 Mp photos and send them via the phone. Easier with the Blackberry which also had a $30/month unlimited internet use deal. I use my Blackberry Bold more as a phone because it is easier sending messages with the keyboard.

How hard is it to root? I have the evo.
Very easy with this.. Read the directions

Good for you.

I have a captivate S droid....nice freaking phone.
will "rooting" it make it quicker from one screen to the next ?
-
No. Rooting (granting superuser rights) is like having administrator rights on Windows. Some apps require it tho to make changes deeper in the system.
//But thus allowing you to install an overclocked kernel etc. So that'll make it faster.

no need - samsung just released the new 2.2.1 version of froyo in the uk - its blindingly fast.
you should get it in the states shortly.
unless you want to copy the new gingerbread that will be ripped off the new nexus s in a few weeks.
-
I rooted for longer battery life, install custom roms (which is awesome cus its like getting a new phone) Plus verizon those scum bags wanted to charge us for wireless tethering. So when rooted, i pulled their shit off and went to the market and got my own free wireless tether app. Works great too. Plus when you root, you can remove all that bloatware bullshit they install.
