Title: Hepatitis C - Salons
Post by: loco on December 10, 2010, 04:34:27 AM
Hepatitis C is a growing problem for baby boomers

Though hepatitis C once had a reputation of being linked to drug use and those on the fringes of society, it has become a highly contagious baby boomer disease, says Dr. Mitchell Davis of South Florida Gastroenterology. He said people who experimented with drugs during their youth carried the virus for decades without knowing it and now the median age for diagnosis is 55. Even those that stayed away from drugs could contract the disease from items such as unsterilized cuticle trimmers at a salon, Davis said

Hep C is not a laughing matter.  I have (had?) two friends/acquataintances/neighbours who have had it.  Girlie who lived across the road healed herself or something mad like that, which wasn't helpful or sympathetic to my other mate who took a course of interferon (horrid drugs which make you ill and according to him, gave him a 'personality transplant' (he went awful moody and short fused) and still didn't get better.  They keep taking biops of his liver and he hasn't a clue what's to be expected.  He's still not much better mentally (having been told he has a life-threatening liver disorder).  He's debating whether or not to do another course of the awful drugs which may or may not quash his Hep C.

It's not a talked about issue.  He must warn potential partners because it might or might not be contractable via sex.  He's not supposed to drink alcohol (this is a man who has amassed a wonderful wine cellar).  it's awful.

xL  I don't know what to say to him, he's considering another 9 months of interferon nasty drugs, whilst drinking heavily.  He's only 44.  He's not ill, he only found out he had it a few years ago when someone he'd known when he was 18 tested positive and politely called him 20 years or so later to say you'd better get checked...

Try CARMEX £1.99.  Don't lend it to anyone or you might catch herpes...

(Heard a good one about night sweats aka the menopause:  Wifey says 'I installed a fan at the bottom of the bed and slept soundly.  Husband woke up with chapped lips though...

Carmex is a good suggestion, however, I'd go old school with the stuff in the pot - that formula seems to work the best.  Maybe get a little spatula so you're not sticking your fingers in it - hence potentially contaminating it.  Just stop at any makeup counter in the mall and ask if you can have one - they have oodles of them they use for demonstrating product.

I'm sure Migs has his own supply of make-up spatulas already :)

Migs, I've found Burt's Bees dries my lips out.  Maybe buy some chapstick (or several pots of Carmex or maybe even Vaseline?) and keep several tubes around your house and car and always have some in your pocket.
