so i'm shooting the breeze at the gym with this dude and we get to talking about politics and what's happening in the u.s. for like years now and he says to me " the problems with our country i can sum up in 6 words!" the 6 words he says?
"unchecked and rewarded stupidity and greed".
pretty simple yet i thought pretty damn bullseye, maybe too simplistic, but it's a good start in the conversation.
-
Basically that guy is correct.
Thankfully President Obama has enforced regulation on Greedy Wall Street and has been trying to extend tax cuts for the middle and lower class.
However, REPUBLICANS don't want to help the middle and lower class unless the wealthiest of Americans are also granted a tax cut. The Democrats care about the salt of the earth working class folk while REPUBLICANS only care about wealthy white collar millionaires and billionaires.

Hammer who do you think are the people making over 250,000 dollars a year? They're the small business owners! They're the ones that hire people! They're the tax payers, they're the ones that put back into the economy. Why should they be taxed more than anyone else because they worked hard and were successful. No matter how poor I'm right now I don't expect a handout or help for the government. I was unemployed for a few months and I felt like a dirt looser I had to get a job as soon as I could.
Isn't the America dream to be as successfull as you can and make a lot of money. Why should people be punished for that. We need to give the small business owner the same breaks we all get. Trickle down economics its simple science.

Nope, he's a dumbass that thinks we have broken branches on a living tree when the reality is the tree was cut down and replaced with a picture.
"Money Changers" are the words you are looking for.

Shut the fuck up... you sound like a brainwashed Republican that listens to AM talk radio.
The monetary system is completely controlled by a central power, you can't even fucking begin to have a free market system with anything close to fair competition when the deck is completely stacked. Who creates the new money? Who gets it first? Who gets the zero interest loans? Who gets the government contracts of guaranteed business and inflated rates?
Why can investment banks borrow at .25% interest and turn around and buy government debt and earn 4% on it?
Why did my credit union increase my interest rate from 6% to 11% when my credit history is flawless and I've never missed a payment?

What does that have to do with makaveli25's point? The central banking structure you bitch about, and which I despise, goes back to 1913 here in the States and includes Robber Baron families like the Rothschilds, Gettys, Morgans, Rockefellers etc. They are not the ones making 250k in small business.
They makes millions/billions from dividends etc. The system is totally corrupted from the inside out, but raising taxes on people making 250k like doctors and small business owners isn't going to solve the problem of central bankers and government corruption of our financial system.
What needs to happen is a rewrite of the monetary policy and tax codes so that active income earners are not screwed at 35-40% taxes, while "too big to fail" companies are left to survive on their own wits rather than play with our money then have the government bail them out when they fuck up.
Fractional Reserve lending based on fiat money with rigged laws all the while steered by an autonomous private bank is no way to run an economy.
They should just have made the cut-off at 1,000,000 - problem solved. Hard to argue FOR millionaires, and all the small business owners are good to go too.
-
Brainwashed democrats. Obama should go after the public sector if he's looking to get some money. Go after the unions and the bigshots in Washington spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax payer money. Cut welfare for christ sake make those people do some work. Sterlize and drug test the people on welfare.

Wake up you fucking idiot! In what shape your country is in? You have no wars, you have no huge protests and car burnings, your average Joe gets by just fine. Yeah, you have your homeless people but you've had 'em forever. You have what, double the income at your disposal compared to the 70's. They had double the amount than in the 30's. Still the same complaining always takes place. What is enough???

You got a point. We're the only county where our poorest are some of the fattest. Everyone has a tv and video game systems. No one really goes hungry. We are better off then most.

I thought the 6 words that got us in the shape we are in is, "do you want fries with that?". ;D

FFS! Get it right. Nobody is getting a tax cut. It's just leaving it the way it is. Not raising taxes on anybody. Rich or poor.
And whether you are rich or poor why is it better that the government gets more of your money rather than you, who actually had to go out and earn it? Do you think the government spends the money that they confiscate from others more wisely and productively than those who had to earn it themselves?

LOL, yeah, a very simple science that has been disproven time and time again.

bingo.
this banking cartel is the real power behind the scenes....our entire 'system' is designed basically to exploit the masses for their gain.

thats definitely true.........but there are some other reasons of equal import
"too many stupid people making too many stupid people"
and
"white guilt"
are two gigantic reasons from my POV

read the following. corporations do not hire people based on tax rates, they hire people based on demand.
Brainwashed democrats. Obama should go after the public sector if he's looking to get some money. Go after the unions and the bigshots in Washington spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax payer money. Cut welfare for christ sake make those people do some work. Sterlize and drug test the people on welfare.
thats just retarded. there is no money to gain by cutting 'public sector' programs and services. all that will do is damage the economy in both the short term and even more devastatingly in the long run. we need more money going towards public services and more money given out to the lower class. tax cuts and subsidies for the corporations doesnt do jack shit for the economy. dmenad dictates what corporations do, when they hire people, when they contirbute to the economy. cutting their taxes does nothing to increase demand and does nothing to increase the amount of people they hire or the amount of goods they produce. all it does is fatten their wallets at the expense of the american public. the people who will spend money are the low and middle class, and they are where tax cuts and stimulus funds should go. the amount of money we put into public services needs to be drastically increased in certain areas like education where the money put into the system is returned twelve fold over time by increasing the productivity/capabilities of our citizens. welfare is one of the best things for the economy, cuz those people spend their checks and spend it on things that drive business.

if the government didnt "confiscate" our money, we would not have a military, police, courts system and prisons, fire fighters, roads, schools, and you would probably be forced to live like a cave man or work 12 hour days, making barely enough to survive in some wretched factory somewhere. and who should pay for government ? well, where is all the money at? not in the hands of the middle and lower class! the money is in the hands of the major corporations, and they should be the ones paying the majority of the taxes as well.
-
Don't say that, you will upset all the poor and middle class republicans on here like coach. ;D
I'm sorry, did you say something? Do you even have a job (yet)? Who care's if I'm middle class, you have a problem with that? According to shithead (Obama) I'm considered rich and he's going to tax the shit out of me, you on the other hand probably don't even make enough to be taxed, must be nice to have your parents pay your way.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAAAA I bet you like it when daddy tells you its trickle down economics and you proceed to open your mouth like a baby bird waiting for its grub and he proceeds to give you a golden shower and hot steaming shit log in your mouth. What a fool you are to still believe in trickle down economics. It's almost like you have no concept of how money works. You want a booming economy?? Give it to the poor who love to continually spend. They are the ones who drive the economy. They buy things they cant afford so they can have it auto deducted from their accounts. That way idiots like you can drop money into the stock market over imaginary profits and drive the delusion along further. Thats how you get a booming economy. Sad but true.

Admittedly i am very lucky to have the parents that i do. Ironically my parents make the money to where they support obama taxing them as do Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. The people with the money are willing to be taxed. "income tax" lol!
You don't tax the "wealthy" through income taxes....the billionaires that people love to hate aren't punching the clock and picking up a paycheck!...lol
The 'old money' wealth don't have 'income.' They don't earn a paycheck.
They don't have jobs!
They already have the fucking wealth...and have had it in their families for generations!
All you do by trying to tax the wealthy through "income" is tax the people who grew up WITHOUT "wealth," but worked their asses off to change that by becoming things like doctors...engineers....b y starting their own business and devoting the better part of a life making it grow, etc.
The real wealthy just sit back and take comfort in knowing that the idiot tax payers are working hard to make sure all those hard working "new money" doctors and entrepreneurs have to keep giving half their money back to the government before they even get the chance to see it....helping to make sure that they and their families are never able to become part of the "real" wealthy.
Meanwhile the Paris Hiltons of the world are buying $15,000 handbags by the armful at the same sales tax rates as the dude at walmart buying that sweatshirt with the picture of a wolf on it...

Reagan's tax policies pushed the federal budget into deficit and led to a significant increase in the National debt... more than tripling from 900 billion dollars to 2.8 trillion dollars during his presidency. His second year in office the economy fell into a recession. The average wage of americans dropped throughout Reagans presidency, coupled with a shift in the tax burden off of the richest americans and onto the poor. yeah, great economic theory.

Nor does history support the rhetoric that the tax cuts will pay for themselves. When the large tax cuts enacted in 1981 were being debated, many of the adherents of those tax cuts contended the tax cuts would more than pay for themselves. Conversely, when marginal tax rates on high-income individuals were raised in 1990 and especially in 1993, the claim was made that these tax increases would damage the economy and that income tax receipts consequently would grow more slowly in the 1990s than in the 1980s. In fact, income tax revenues hardly grew at all in the 1980s (after adjustment for inflation and increases in the size of the working-age population) and grew 13 times faster in the 1990s than in the 1980s
Conclusion
The notion that tax cuts can pay, or have paid, for themselves is refuted by the Presidents Council of Economic Advisers both in its analysis of the 2001 tax cut and in the Economic Report of the President. This notion also is contradicted by the abnormally low rate of revenue growth projected in the Presidents budget. And it is rebutted by the long-term budget projections in OMBs Analytical Perspectives, which show permanent deficits. Finally, history shows that the large reductions in income tax rates in 1981 were followed by abnormally slow growth in income tax receipts, while the increases in income-tax rates enacted in 1990 and 1993 were followed by sizeable growth in income-tax receipts. Leading economists are warning that the tax cuts the Administration is proposing will lose substantial revenue and damage the nations long-term fiscal position. The idea that tax cuts can pay for themselves sounds too good to be true because it is too good to be true.

Passing these tax cuts will worsen the long-term budget outlook, adding to the nation’s projected chronic deficits. This fiscal deterioration will reduce the capacity of the government to finance Social Security and Medicare benefits as well as investments in schools, health, infrastructure, and basic research. Moreover, the proposed tax cuts will generate further inequalities in after-tax income

Ok, fair enough. Reagan's record speaks for itself.
Here's just a little.....
1. President Reagan’s economic policies stimulated the economy, creating 17 million new jobs. One-fourth of the new jobs were created in 68 consecutive months. Black unemployment was cut in half.
2. We were given incentives to save our money, to work, and to invest because of Reagan’s tax reforms.
3. The inflation rate decreased to less than 4.4%. Family income rose 12%.
4. We are now experiencing the longest and strongest peacetime prosperity in the history of the nation.
5. We are experiencing the best peacetime relationship with the Soviet Union in our history. We have also seen the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
6. We are now keeping the peace. We drew the line in Grenada, Libya, Afghanistan, and the Persian Gulf, and no countries have fallen to communism during the Reagan era.
7. The U.S. military was refurbished and strengthened.
8. There is now a call for prayer in schools. The Republican adminstration has been lobbying to give this deserved religious freedom.
9. We have seen a return to traditional values. Under Reagan, we have seen a cut in federal funding of abortions; emphasis on a strong family unit; and the development of family-oriented public policy.
10. Educational leaders are now working to sustain moral values and reestablish a clear understanding of right and wrong. The need for values in the curriculum has been trumpeted by the Reagan administration.
11. People from other nations are flocking to America to follow our example. Our principles of civil and economic freedom are now being copied all over the world.
America Just Prior to the Reagan Administration
1. Seven million Americans were unemployed.
2. We were told to live on less, to buckle our belts and to prepare for scarcity.
3. Americans went through two of the worst years of inflation in 60 years. There was a 13% inflation rate. Family income dropped and we had the highest tax bill in our history.
4. We were on the verge of a major recession.
5. With our cold wars during the ’70s, we inspired our enemies not to be afraid of us. The Soviets refused to come to the bargaining table. Cultural exchanges between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. came to a halt.
6. Disarmament was considered a noble goal. We did not know where to draw the line in our negotiations with the Soviets. Three countries fell to communism under the Carter administration: Benin (1977), Nicaragua (1979), and Zimbabwe (1980).
7. Guns and tanks that did not even work were being sent to battle.
8. Young Americans were not allowed to pray in school … even though Congress, every state house, and the Supreme Court begins business with prayer.
9. Progressive values became fashionable. Social policies emulated the values of a small, vocal minority.
10. Education did not sustain moral values. Educational curricula began to promote “alternative lifesyles,” such as homosexuality.
11. America wore a “kick me” sign on its back. We lost our edge in technology and in global markets due to excessive government regulation, and high taxes which devoured capital.

Ok... where did this come from... You know the left is criticizing obama just as hard as the left but not for the same reasons. People get mad when we get a moderate president and get mad when they get an extremist president. Regan didn't defeat communism. He didn't outspend the soviets causing their government to collapse. His fund cutting frenzies brought back diseases like tuberculosis from near extinction. And yes coach, federal government GREW under Regan. I know how you republicans hate large federal government. It Shrunk under Clinton if im not mistaken. Your list is fine and dandy. Thought id make one countering yours. You are missing the point though. This isn't an attack on an individual. It is an attack on ideas. I don't know why you got all butt hurt and felt the need to raise the GOP's "daddy" back up on a pedestal.

I must say I am relieved. I was sure the six words were going to be, "Go fuck yourself you smelly convict."

if the government didnt "confiscate" our money, we would not have a military, police, courts system and prisons, fire fighters, roads, schools, and you would probably be forced to live like a cave man or work 12 hour days, making barely enough to survive in some wretched factory somewhere. and who should pay for government ? well, where is all the money at? not in the hands of the middle and lower class! the money is in the hands of the major corporations, and they should be the ones paying the majority of the taxes as well.
And if it was limited to that our tax rate would be 10% across the board. Do I need to list all the giveaway programs, use less departments and entitlements? Do we really need tax payer funding to study the effects of Bovine flatulence on the environment? Do we really need to have a National Endowment of Arts where welder, a truck driver and a cashier help fund so some artist can submerge a crucifix in urine and call it art. I'm all for art and someone wanting to express themselves but do it on your own dime. Do you know that before the Republicans put a stop to it every member of congress had a bucket of ice and a copy of USA Today left at their door at a six figure cost to tax payers. And although it's been reduced, the Capital still employs elevator operators though manual elevator have never existed in you life time. Some feel it is unseemly that an esteem Congressman or Senator should actually have to push the damn button himself.
You seem to be utterly clueless as to the amount of waste in Government. Just remember, you always spend your own money much more wisely and frugally than you would spend other people's money.

When it comes to economics you are so staggeringly ignorant.
Yes, when Reagan lower taxes the deficit did increase but what you fail to realize was that when taxes were lowered government revenue INCREASED! The government took in more more money because economic activity increased when people got to keep more of what they earned to save, spend or invest. But it didn't matter that revenue increased because the government simply spent more. They always just spend more.
Listen to me closely my juiced up bisexual: The reason we have a deficit is not because the government doesn't take away enough of our money. The reason we have a deficit is because the government SPENDS too much. They can get away with it because there is no immediate consequences and it's not their money. It isn't coming out of their pockets. When you or I come up short at the end of the month we have to cut back, make adjustments. No more testosterona for you this week. Not the government. They simply confiscate more of our wealth and/or print more money.

It's "BRAH"! Not "bra". We're very touchy about this here in the islands.
How many times do I have to point this out? Let me spell it out once and for all for everybody.

damn, alot of reponses to my posting already! this statement this person made to me "unchecked and rewarded stupidity and greed" he explained wasn't just about politics though, it was about everything in our society. entertainment, religion, people's mores and attitudes, etcetera, etcetera.

Pellius and Doison are the only two people who posted in this entire thread that have an obvious command over the subject matter that are talking about. Makaveli and Coach also had some good points. The rest of you are fucking morons who know less than nothing about economics, American History and the way taxation works.

yes, the problem with our government is the amount of money we spend on public services like the endowment for the arts and social programs like welfare.
oh wait, what percentage of our budget goes towards those things again? lol thats right, like less than 10%. the largest place we spend money is on the military. about 25% of all our money goes to the military, about 700billion per year, even though our militatary is larger and more powerful than the next 1dozen countries combined.
its m,ilitary spending that needs to be cut, its military spending that is excessive.
the money we spend on healthcare, education, domestic services like wlefare, and other things are all good for the people and for our economy.
the problem we face is republicans owned by corporations who do everything in their powrer to block reform of our economic system, of our healthcare system, of our military.
the most wasteful spending occurs in the department of the defense and on medicare. we already pay more per year than would be necessary to give every citizen complete and total healthcare for free, but our current system is hijacked by the phramcuetical industry/health insurance industry and ran i a way to maximize their own benefit, not ours.
When it comes to economics you are so staggeringly ignorant.

hey homeslice, your absolutely right, there would be no defecit if the government wasnt spending as much money as they were. a budget is comprised of two tihngs: incoming and outgoing revenue. the two balance eachother.
the idea is that reducing taxes will boost economic activity, so even though the tax rate is lower, the total amount of tax revenue would increase due to higher ecnomic activity.
but that idea is false, as i showed earlier:
An analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities shows that the large reductions in income tax rates in 1981 were followed by abnormally slow growth in income tax receipts, while the increases in income-tax rates enacted in 1990 and 1993 were followed by sizeable growth in income-tax receipts. Specifically, the analysis calculated that the average annual growth rate of real income-tax receipts per working-age person was 0.2% from 1981 to 1990 and a much higher 3.1% from 1990 to 2001.

see, more tax revenues durign higher periods of taxation. wtf? lol yea, i thought so. :)

We all learn different life lessons as we grow older. Not so long ago, you thought carbs were the devil, now you have come around to the understanding that they are not so bad. You are starting to learn the AAS/GH aren't the be all end all factors of a good physique. You have to train with progressive overload, eat accordingly and train smart. Now, a lot of what you say about politics may seem true to you and others, but you cannot spew those things out and expect people to accept what you say just because you believe in it so much. I think most of what you say concerning politics sounds like a regurgitation of liberal points of view, thats just me. Just like a lot of things you believed in so passionately only a couple years ago, you will change politiclly, I gaurenfuckingtee it. You have book smarts, but haven't quite had enough time to accumulate real world experience.
