I think I've got an issue of Flex from early 1993 which depicts Hamdullah Aktullu (sp?) winning the light heavys at the World Championships the previous year - crazy he's still around 17/18 years on and winning comps with that quality physique. He was more ripped back then but I actually prefer his look now - a lot bigger than his old amateur days.

one of the only guys to get his pro  card,  compete in the IFBB and then relenquish his pro status to compete as an amateur again.

What does it mean to “relinquish” one’s pro status?  Is the idea that once you get the card you (can) no longer compete in amateur shows?  Is there or has there ever been a prohibition against doing this?  Why would any pro do this?  What is the appeal?  It sounds akin to graduating from high school , enrolling in college, then going back to take high school classes again…. Am I missing something?  What’s the point of doing this? ???

I wouldn't mind just running around super shredded all the time.

The biggest problem I have with staying lean is staying warm.

I had to sleep with an electric blanket all summer. Can't stay warm with low bodyfat- not in the single digits.

Freezing all the time.

great physique.

unlike the disasters of the pro circuit today, this is somewhat attainable, and a physique that actually looks good.

Nice, albeit drugged, physique.  He looks that good because of the drugs.  Without 'em he'd look good but not that good.

weird huh?  i guess he felt like he wasn't getting noticed as a pro and wasn't making any money and thought it's alot more fun to win than it is to be ignored. but i agree it doesn't make sense that it is allowed.  John Defendis wasn't allowed to compete in the mr. america because he was in a magazine add. i know NABBA pro's had to requalify as amateurs to get into the IFBB. Mike Quinn was pro NABBA mr. universe and had to compete in the NPC usa's. but there were other NABBA guys that weider just let in, like Bertil Fox, Brian Buchanun, Ed Kawak, etc.  then Jeff King wanted to be in the IFBB, and like Quinn, he was told he would have to qualify through the NPC even though he won multiple NABBA pro universe titles. that ended his career.

Bob once said that being a part of the IFBB and having a pro card was like being in a club if I remember correctly. Therefore I guess you can always decide to cancel your membership.

when the AAU was in control of the amateurs, if you ever made any money whether it be prize money or sponsorship you were recognized as a pro and no longer could compete as an amateur. much more relaxed since the NPC took over the amateur division.

Dude was simply too small to compete as a pro. Even though he looked phenomenal (no homo), he still stood absolutely no chance against other fellas. If he had just said fuck it and upped the dose only god of hormones knows what could have happened... ???

If only he upped the dosages and got a humongous gut and quads that were so big he could barely waddle, then and only then would he be able to compete on the pro level !!  :(

I have quite the opposite problem, I get too warm. Never have I figured that one out! But I really am warmer with low body fat, as opposed to having 15% or when I stayed a bit higher.

In recent years I've noticed I "run hotter" than most, even having to kick the covers off the bed in the middle of winter, and my g/f hated that because she'd be too cold and I was too warm to be next to.

And having worked in -20* and sometimes -40* freezers, I could wear a wife beater and a shirt over that and still work in there for an hour and a half at a time, go back on the aisle and put the product on the shelf. Drive to the next store without a heater and repeat.
