Obama vows to fight Republicans -- next year
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/theoval/post/2010/12/obama-vows-to-fight-republicans----next-year/1

As fellow Democrats accuse him of caving in to Republicans on the tax cut deal, President Obama is repeatedly promising them that he will fight the GOP aggressively when it takes over the U.S. House and adds senators next month.
"I will be happy to see the Republicans test whether or not I'm itching for a fight on a whole range of issues," Obama said last week. "I suspect they will find I am. And I think the American people will be on my side on a whole bunch of these fights."
Obama has echoed this pledge repeatedly as House and Senate Democrats wrestle with the package that also includes items sought by Obama, including a 13-month extension of unemployment benefits and an array of middle class tax cuts. In a conference call with political supporters, Obama said: "We are going to go right back at Republicans in showing why the things that they wanted in this compromise don't make sense."
One of those fights will be over the very thing that some Democrats are angry about: The two-year extension of George W. Bush-era tax cuts for the nation's wealthiest Americans.
"When they expire in two years, I will fight to end them," Obama said. "Just as I suspect the Republican Party may fight to end the middle-class tax cuts that I've championed and that they've opposed."
Another issues: Budget deficits that, Obama agrees, will rise under the Bush tax cut extension deal.
"Republicans are going to have to explain to the American people over the next two years how making those tax cuts for the high end permanent squares with their stated desire to start reducing deficits and debt," Obama said.
Republicans are also sharpening their weapons, saying that raising anyone's taxes in a bad economy is a bad idea.
Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., a key member of the new House Republican majority, said yesterday on Fox News Sunday that his party will produce a package of spending cuts next year.
"We are not interested in raising taxes," Ryan said. "We're going to come out of the gates going after spending ... spending cuts, spending controls, reforms of the structure of spending."
Another possibility is tax reform, Ryan said, one that involves "broader based lower rates for economic growth."
In deferring these kinds of battles until next year, Obama has said that without a deal the Bush tax cuts would expire and everyone would see their taxes rise, and "I want to make sure that the American people aren't hurt because we're having a political fight."
That presumably comes next year.
"I'm looking forward to seeing them on the field of competition over the next two years," Obama said.

240: "The GOP needs to compromise with Obama"

I get dizzy from reading all the spin that emanates from anything Obama says
-
Yeah let's blame the gop for bamas hyperpartisan stance.

Yeah let's blame the gop for bamas hyperpartisan stance.
what is his "hyperpartinsan" stance?
was it something about no negotion on anything?
-
Straw - mcconnell said that bama never called him once in 18 months.
-
not a wise move on his part. IMO he should be talking about how much he wants to work WITH them. let them look like the bad guys
-
240 - he never had any intention of working with them from day one.
-
240 - he never had any intention of working with them from day one.
what about him caving completely on tax cuts?
you don't consider that working with them? He gave them 100% of what they wanted on that case.
-
Straw - mcconnell said that bama never called him once in 18 months.
bfd - McConnell has been in plenty of meetings and had all the access he needs
McConnell was out there early on opposing anything and everything that Obama was in favor of just because Obama was for it.
Republicans (probably McConnel) vote against legislation that they conceive and sponsor when Obama get's on board
is there anything else that leads you to conclude Obama is hyperpartisan other than McConnell has his panties in a twist becasue Obama hasn't called him?
-

No he didn't. They wanted to make the tax cuts permanent. He only agreed to extend them for two years.

And is trying to add a bunch or "pork"

they compromised
that's one thing I'm learning about this deal where I can see that Obama did get concessions from the Repubs
same goes for the estate tax but I'm hoping they get more before it's done
-
And is trying to add a bunch or "pork"
They already added it. It's loaded.

::) Aren't you the same person who repeatedly said Obama should not compromise with Republicans? Just another liberal hypocrite. ::)
-
Straw - mcconnell said that bama never called him once in 18 months.
if he said it it must be true...duuuhhhhh ::)
-
::) Aren't you the same person who repeatedly said Obama should not compromise with Republicans? Just another liberal hypocrite. ::)
I probably first said that Repubs had no intention to compromise so therefore Obama should ignore them
that's what I recall writing but if you can find something different I'll look at it

Oh brother ::)-- someone has an inflated ego; People here make fun of you because you have the IQ of a jar of mayonnaise, not because anyone cares about whether or not you post in this forum. Besides, its hard to cause a closeted homosexual with no life, no intelligence and no clue about any of the topics in which he posts to feel "shame" or induce anything resembling self awareness.
-
How do you know he is a homo? ???
-
what about him caving completely on tax cuts?

He had no choice in the matter. If taxes go up on us, Obama is as good as DEAD in 2012.
If he didn't, the GOP-run Congress would have written a much tighter bill, with none of the unemployment benefits. Obama would have been eventually FORCED to sign it, or feel America's wrath for the tax-hikes.
-
what is his "hyperpartinsan" stance?
was it something about no negotion on anything?
"GOP is enemies of hispanics"
"GOP are hostage takers"
"White executves dont want to pay taxes since it funds inner city education"
etc etc.

you're a perfect example
why would I give a shit what you say. I don't know you and virtually every time we've talked all you do is throw insults
just shows me you're totally insecure and have nothing of value to add to any conversation

How does he know you are homo? If you are? maybe he wants you straw, lot of replublicans are homo's and afraid to come out maybe thats the issue here with George
-
Title should read: Obama: "I vow to do what the corporations and bankers who pay me the most want and I promise to make an ass of myself acting like I disagree with republicans who take the same payoffs"
post of the year, end of topic...

his brilliant conclusion seems to be that because I pro-human rights in the sense that I think gay people should have all the same rights as straight people that I must be a gay.
Of course it's stupid to think that I would be closeted if I'm also vocally in favor of gay rights.
Since he's uses very homophopic language and seems to have a lot of "anger" toward gay people it's likely that he's in fact the closet queen and is just projecting his self hatred on me

Its 10000000% true. I was down the Wall Street area yesterday and wanted to light the place on fire after seeing this starched shirt, penny loafer, brooks brothers, mafia strutting around the streets. i was thinking to myself "Survival of the Fittest for me . . .. Socialism & Thievery for them"
And who do I blame? The politicians who refused to let these criminals fail and go bankrupt wen theyhad the chance. And yes Team KP, that incudes Obama, Reid, and Pelosi.
You want to laugh - I had myslf defense class last night and there isthis ne guy who went from a obama progressive to a Ron Paul supporter. We were talking and he called the wall street mafia "robber barons". I stopped him and said - at least the robber barns of the 1800's gave us railroads and industry - this bunch gives us debt, devalued currency, and ponzi schemes. He laughed and agreed with me.
But your post was dead right. I want both parties to disband and go away. Make theFed Gov a fraction of the size it is now and let thesebankers collapse and deal withtrue capitalism that the rest of us deal wih.

they didn't "give' us railroads and industry. They did it for their own enrichment and in large part by using slave labor (or very close to it), cheating, stealing, murder, etc... and then giving as little back to the country that allowed/enabled them to do it.
-
I didnt mean it in a good/bad sense, just saying at least those robber barons actually built something of substance, this bunch now just deal in ponzi schemes on paper.

Rove: From Post-Partisan to Most Partisan-Obama has energized his opponents by demonizing them
The Wall Street Journal ^ | December 15, 2010 | Karl Rove
'I'm itching for a fight on a whole range of issues." President Barack Obama made that threat last week as Congress moved to pass his bipartisan tax-cut compromise. Why was Mr. Obama so pugilistic?
It was partly to reassure unhappy Democratic liberals, especially bitter Democratic congressmen. Many are from gerrymandered districts where little news about the midterm elections has apparently penetrated.
But a scorched-earth policy doesn't make sense for the Obama White House. Independents voted Republican last month by a 59% to 38% margin not because they thought Mr. Obama too civil, his course too centrist, and his bipartisanship too energetic. In fact, they were sick of the administration's direction and tone. The increased number of Republicans in Congress next year will stop Mr. Obama's leftward policy march, whether he likes it or not. But only he can change his manner of speaking.
In his first two White House years, Mr. Obama has seemed incapable of constructing a positive narrative. Instead, he has appeared hard-wired to justify his policy choices by blaming savage evildoers for monstrous wrongs.
Mr. Obama fell into this habit early. He kicked off his drive to pass a stimulus on Jan. 8, 2009 by attacking the "profound irresponsibility that stretched from corporate boardrooms to . . . Washington." In December of that year, during a "60 Minutes" interview, he lashed out at bankers making multimillion-dollar bonuses, saying "I did not run for office to be helping out a bunch of fat-cat bankers on Wall Street."(continued)
