There's a growing backlash by a few media mouthpieces over the general lack of excitement about the UConn women's basketball team having won a bunch of games in a row.
Now Coach Geno is chiming in with the victim card:
"After win No. 88 in a row was in the books, Geno Auriemma finally let loose: He thinks some people are rooting against his record-setting players because of their gender."

I'm a big sports fan and also a big women's sports fan, but for whatever reason, women's basketball is almost unwatchable to me. I have limited time for television anyway, so I'm not going to waste it on something that has no entertainment value to me.
And besides, it's still football season. I could give a shit about basketball until January.

To be honest, womens sports are only appealing to guys if they feature "hot" women. Period.
The level of competition is so far below the mens game, that if a bunch of ugly ducklings were playing, only family members would watch.
-
oh gosh Geno, really, no need to be a crybaby..
all about the lady HUSKIES, go UCONN

X2
the obvious example being women beach volleyball..Team Brazil is always appreciated

I'm all about women being equal and pursuing their dreams but, like the others, I'm not going to watch unless they're hot
even then I'd only care for a couple minutes

I remember when the WNBA had a slogan of "They're better than you......" Yeah, great way to expand your male audience.
UCONN is just overlooked because they dominate to such a drastic degree. Beat the other top 10 teams by 40 plus. It's boring.

Nobody would care if they won 1,000 games in a row. It's women's basketball.

Oh, I agree from a fans standpoint..... but so is baseball imo and the media gives it WAAAAAYYYYY too much coverage..... Until the womens game evolves to the point you seem the athleticsm of the male game, it will always be overlooked.

Precisely. All they've done is beaten the teams they were supposed to beat. Sure, every team has an off night from time-to-time, but that's not going to show up in the 'L' column if you were favored by 40 to begin with.
The lack of quality opponents make their streak unremarkable and not even truly worthy of a mention on GetBig. The only reason I brought it up was to call Geno a bitch.

So true in all sports. You are really measured by your competition.

Yup. I've been saying for 20 years that the biggest problem in women's sports is the lack of upsets.
And I *loved* big ol' Capriati. ;D

I am not muhc of a b-ball fan , so it is hard for me to comment on this specific run of wins for the lady Huskies.
Since the issue is interesting for debate I will chime in.
1. While men and woman should have equal ACCESS to all sports, that does not guarentee , equal fan interest.
2. If the % of female basketball fans was equal to men, then maybe the fan numbers would be similar for both?
3. Bottom line: If male and female sports were exactly equal why the need for separate male/female games?
The top time in woman's 100m dash is full second behind the best man.

The World Series this year averaged an 8.4 rating, the lowest ever. The main problem with baseball is that the season is too long. The World Series should be wrapped up by mid September when there's still some interest in the game. It's suicide to compete against the NFL.
Women's college basketball isn't overlooked, it's just not interesting. If anything, ESPN does them a favor by even airing their games. The 2010 championship game drew a 2.7 rating. On the same night, American Idol 7.8, Lost 3.8, NCIS 3.4, The Biggest Loser 3.3, and NCIS: LA 2.9.

i mean overlooked by the majority of media. ESPN pimps it because they carry it, no other coverage at all. Its due to there being no interest in it from fans, obviously to a degree, but plenty of other non-ratings sports are broadcast on ESPN too.

>:( ;D I wouldn't doubt it..... we could put a team together on getbig and those clowns would find a way to lose to them. i might need to pop over the Chapel Hill for a motivational speech.

I can't really explain it, but these guys are the least hungry Tarheels I've ever seen. I'm not saying they need 'swagger', but a little heart would be nice.
I think the drop-off started when Carolina began experimenting with that darker 'Carolina blue' color on the uniforms.

They really lack team leadership.....they had Felton/May, then Lawson/Hansbrough and now they don't have that. Lot of talent, but no real "motor" on the team. Barnes is very talented, but more of a laid back guy at this point. i think he will get it by the end of the year and they will be the team nobody wants to play in March.
And i hate the darker blue in the uni's.....i didn't even like it when they got rid of the "Tar Heel" symbol on the short-shorts back in the day. ;D

i agree with the weirdo here.
not even women can stand to watch that shitfest.

Nope not the same as mens...good for chicks but 95% of men don't care...sorry.
