Did he pat himself on the back too soon?
After 'progress,' Obama rating stays
By MJ LEE | 12/30/10 6:43 AM Updated: 12/30/10 7:01 AM
The spate of legislative accomplishments in the lame-duck session celebrated by the White House appears to have had little effect on President Obama’s approval rating, according to Gallup’s latest tracking poll.
Between Dec. 26 and 28 – soon after Obama arrived in Hawaii for his Christmas vacation – Obama’s approval rating was 47 percent, two points lower than his rating from the previous week, Gallup reports. He has averaged a 46 percent rating since November.
Before leaving for Hawaii, Obama called an end-of-the-year press conference to recall some of Congress’s final moves, like repealing “don’t ask, don’t tell,” ratifying the START pact with Russia and passing his tax-cut plan with Republicans. He labeled the activity “a season of progress for the American people.”
The poll’s results were based on interviews with 1,531 adults.

Obamas fate will be tied to gas prices and unemployment.
-
At this point....
Obama could probably join Mike Vick and toss puppies into the grand canyon while singing muslim christmas caroles...
and he wouldn't dop below 44%. that seems to be his 'floor'.
-
He has lost independents, so it doesn't really matter if he hovers around 40+ percent.

those independents will come back to him if the republicans run a polarizing candidate they view as incompetent.
oh geez, another Thune thread!

Is gas proces are 5 dollars a gallon, palin will easily win on drill baby drill.

best thing I've read from you in weeks.
(or is it I happen to agree with you ! :) )

i dunno... the MSNBC talking point is that "the repubs fighting cap/trade (or whatever its called) are keeping us dependent on foreign sources, even as those evil terr'ist nations jack up the price of gas to $5 a gallon..."

How exactly is fighting cap and trade keeping the US dependent of foreign oil? Banning drilling is keeping the US dependent of foreign oil. Who was that again that extended the drilling ban?

There are two million orther reasons to never vote for bama again, but the average dope who only pays attetnion a week or to prior to an election will look at those two things.

He not only lost independents, but he lost support in almost every other demographic:
President Obama's Poll Numbers Bleak with Independents, Women, the Young, Whites
What Must Obama Do to Turn Things Around?
Mark Whittington, Yahoo! Contributor Network
Nov 26, 2010
The Washington Examiner's Byron York relates poll statistics that are as awful as awful can be for President Barack Obama and his prospects of getting reelected.
With one exception, President Obama has lost heavily among all demographics.
"Start with voters who call themselves independents. Obama won 52 percent of them in 2008; now, according to Gallup, he is at 42 percent. Obama's party as a whole fared even worse among independents in the midterms, losing them to Republicans by 19 points. If Obama does anywhere near that badly in 2012, he'll lose.
"Next, women. In 2008, Obama won 56 percent of female voters. Today, he's at 49 percent. If that number doesn't improve, he'll be in deep trouble. (Obama is also down with men, from 49 percent in 2008 to 44 percent now.)
"Even younger voters, a key part of Obama's coalition, are peeling away. In '08, Obama won 66 percent of voters 18-29 years of age. Now, he's at 58 percent. That might seem pretty good, but not when you consider his deterioration among other age groups. Obama has dropped 5 percentage points among voters in and around middle age, and 8 percent with voters above 65. If those trends continue, he'll lose.
"Then there are white voters. In '08, Obama won 43 percent of whites. Now, he's at 37 percent -- a dangerously low number for his re-election hopes. He won 67 percent of Hispanic voters in 2008; now, he's at 58 percent. Even support among black voters, a bedrock for Obama, has ticked downward; after winning 95 percent of blacks in '08, he's now at 89 percent.
"Just one group has stuck with Obama through it all. In '08, he won 58 percent of people with graduate degrees. Now, he's at 59 percent. It appears that academic types will be with Obama always, but they're not enough."

You would have to ask MSNBC. I was repeating their argument, not telling you I agree with it.
This whole climate and energy thing - both sides are completely full of shite. Completely. Repubs would shit in your drinking water if they could make a dime off it. And dems would scream in your grandmother's face if they thought it could scare you into voting for their bullshit taxes.
Anyone who voted Dem or Repub should go screw a ham sandwich.

Who cares? You cant make a profit by shitting into someone's drinking water. If you really beleive that Republicans would shit in your drinking water if they could make a dime off of it, do you some how believe that Bob Barr wouldnt? If you voted Losertarian you voted Democrat.
-
240 againg kneepadding. Bottom line is wo more drilling and more nukes and all forms of eneergy we are screwed.

If you could get FOX news to run a series of stories about shitty drinking water, and you happened to sell water purification tablets, then yes... you can certainly make a profit off shitting in people's water.
Kinda like how Mike Chertoff was lucky (ha!) enough to leave office and start a company selling TSA scanning machines to airports. ;) Or how Cheney's company is the one still making billions from elective wars he planned and started.
Tis like it for both parties. Guys get into office and create situations from which they will benefit from, when they're out of office. Cheney did it all thr u the Bush1 admin... then ran haliburton, making 50 mil a year benefitting from the post-war mess. Then, he gets into office, re-starts the war... leaves office and now he's doing it again ;)
Smart dudes. And yes, Cheney and every other politician from both parties, could, would, and has shat in our drinking water and found a way to profit from it :)

Bottom line is that gas goes to five dollars a gallon barry is done.
-
1) That's a 30% jump in EVERYTHING in the economy. Every bit of food, every shirt, costs 30 percent more, if gas jumps that much. I think obama would just start a war or something to distract if shit got that bad.
2) Even then... would he REALLY drop? Obamacare + UE skyrocketing = He doesn't move an inch ;)
3) If he could paint it as repubs fault for fighting him on Cap/Trade, he would win on it. Do the republicans have a candidate that can clearly articulate why obama is bullshitting us on this? Or will they run some piece of eye candy who can't explain her way out of a paper bag?
face it... even if gas jumps that much (highly unlikely), obama would paint it as repubs fault, and the repubs would shoot themslves in foot by putting up a moron who couldn't capitalize.
-
He is on record for wanting gas prices to skyrocket you fool.
-
The bottom line is that USA is way overspending.
USA needs to be doing exactly what Greece, Ireland, Spain and other countries that have huge deficits and are in debted to the rest of the world.
The US congress, both parties, needs to cut down on expenses as well as stop the tax cuts.
It's like someone who's ill but isn't able to fathom it.
Denial isn't a river in Egypt.

In the real practical world, no company would shit in the water and make a product to cure it. What if someone found out? Too much money, too much shareholders' wealth at stake.
I will give you the Micheal Chertoff example, but you guys take the Military Industrial COmplex concept WAAAYYY beyond its logical conclusion. Is Haliburton really that much better off because of the war? Did it not exist before the war? Is it so much better off that Chaney was willing to risk the contreversy that you guys cook up? Wasnt Iraq a thorn in our side long before BUSH came into power? No US oil companies are allowed in Iraq. Besides, isnt it a GOOD thing that foreign companies are developing and selling that oil instead of Saddam?

Tax hikes wouldnt make a difference in the deficit. Spending is the problem. Not revenues. Focus on the problem.

The problem is that US politicians aren't debating the seriousness of the situation.
USA wouldn't be allowed into WTO if they would apply today.
