Title: Pain on knee caps/Glucosamine/MSM
Post by: coltrane on January 11, 2011, 08:26:48 AM
Guys, recently with my leg workouts i've noticed a bit of pain on the tops of my knee caps.  I've been training for 19 years or so, and now just do leg presses and have cut squats due to back problems.

ANYWAY, i've decided to try glucosmine and msm combo.

Anyone with info or results on the supp OR with this type of kneecap pain?

Coltrane,

I run daily for almost 2 years, every blue moon I get the same pain. I just ice it down at night and take my glucosime daily and no real problems

Might consider light knee wraps, enough to insure warmth/blood in the knee cap area. Or a heating element (rub, lotion, etc.)  for increased warmth/ blood circulation. In either case, keep the area warm before, during and after leg exercises.

Glucosmine/MSM is a excellent combo. If you can, try for a liquid or powder form. Easier for digestion and full breakdown, in the digestion tract,  than the hard pill form.  Good Luck.

Thanks guys.  I actually am going to start doing a better job at warming up the joint first.  Usually i hit hams first, then go straight to leg press.  I"m gonna put the leg extensions in there prior to presses to warm it up better.

It's funny too, bc at higher weight, i usually do feel the pain... it's only at the beginning with the lighter stuff that I feel it.  MUST be not enough warmup.

Again, JPM and newmom, thanks.

I've been using 3000mg of gluco and 3000 mg of msm daily, split into two doses/day.

It's only been a few days since i've started the supp though so it's too early to tell.

Give them a good 2 weeks, or to the extreme 3 weeks, before expecting positive  results.  Some trainers suggest , if new to these supplement, that a double doze of the normal recommended amount for at least a week. Like a loading cycle to get a boost start. As you would with Creatine. But than again, it's your body and might have to experiment a bit. Good Luck.

I'd say these supplements work if you still have totally healthy joints.

But after the damage is done to cartilage. Well, they are not medicines.
