Title: Can any GB'ers pull off this workout competition?
Post by: Devon97 on January 13, 2011, 10:05:47 AM
Can't say I agree with this type of "training" but if you simply want to be challenged BIG time from a competative nature than this mightbe up your alley.

Not sure if I could even make it through the second wave of dead lifts + weighted vest burpees.  :-\

Anyone here think they could even make it through all these events and finish?

Squadfather would clean the room with an uzi  :D

I wouldn't make it through.

I'm about 110% positive I could roll through that no issues. I'd only have to teach myself how to do the overhead press squats a few weeks before.

Thats awesome. We go through different variations of this type of training at my gym. Those fucking burpees will break anyone, no matter what fitness level you're at.

Obviously this isn't bodybuilding training...it's all functional type stuff. After a weeks of these workouts you feel 100% better doing day to day stuff.  Love that shit.

Everyone should try this sort of workout.

I hate the term "functional strength" like someone does those movements in their everyday life......wtf?  ::)

Man...I hate agreeing with a generalized statement like this, but I feel the same way. They speak of it as the "end all be all" fitness program (hint, nothing is). It looks FUN to me at times, and a good way to get in to shape if you have zero knowledge on training or diet, but also appears horribly inefficient and injury prone. I don't know...I'm a much more straight forward type of trainer who sees stuff like this and just can't but think there are much much more effective and safer ways to get in shape. I think it would be neat for a month or so, but only supplemental to real and effective training.

Crossfit= taking credit for introducing the Power Clean to the general public

Powercleans with 50 lbs. but somehow found 5 pound plates that are the size of 45's.

I know a school teacher who does Crossfit, and has invited me to train with him.  I asked him if I would be 145 lbs. with huge callouses on my hands as a prize.

These douchenozzles show off their callouses as if they were medals.

Oh, and Glassman is an odd duck.

you have the strength for it but it's also alot about cardiovascular ability obviously. I'm sure you could though with short time of training for it.

In Germany they called them "beer gardens" and I loved them in the summer/fall.....I think that is one thing that euros have on Americans is that you know how to relax and SLOW DOWN once in awhile....

I remember going to the "Tate modern" completely shitfaced one night and then blurting out stupid views on the art....acting all pretentious and savvy...haha, oh brother....

Conditioning like this is what so many bodybuilders lack.  Nothing looks worse than seeing a well built guy run out of gas boxing/wrestling and have an apparently muscless guy in condition take them out.   Don't be a mirror athlete. aerobic/anerobic conditon counts.

I do agree with another poster on this board that said crossfitters tend to be arrogant. It's there way or the highway.  Kind of like HIT bodybuilders.

i started talking to 2 crossfit guys around 6 months ago at my gym and they were telling me how the hammer curls i was doing were pointless, and don't work....i said "look at me, then look at yourself"...they said some shit about how they were training for endurance as well as strength....i told them they were massively failing the strength part....and then i told them i could still whip there ass in the mile...

we went outside to the gym's track to run a mile(4 laps).....at the end of the 3rd lap i had overlapped both of them.....now they ask me for advice ;D

I agree with the crossfit "type" douchebags. MOST of them think they are the shit and have attitudes that make them wear Northface fleece and a BPA free water bottle hooked to their gym bags.

BUT, douchebaggery aside ... the shit is fun and it's a great cardio workout.
