Title: George W. Bush memorial speech at VA Tech
Post by: Soul Crusher on January 13, 2011, 01:55:12 PM
No cheeseball T's, no campaign jeers, no hooting, no pep rally crap.

For all my complaints with W, I miss this type of speech as opposed to the pep rally style.   No teleprompters, no astrotuf, just a simple, plain spoken talk.

Seems a lot more heartfelt than Obama's. Then again, I don't think Obama or his staff know anything other than "campaign mode".

Obama's reliance and addiction to the teleprompter is very off putting.   every speech sounds exactly the same.   Viewer gets whiplash from the side to side head motion.  The chin in the air smacks of arrogance.

He needs to get rid of those damn things.

Bush wore an earpiece a lot of the time.  He spoke in short blurbs as they came into his ear.  You could always tell when he went off script and tried to interject his own opinions.  tempo changed, sentence structure went out of whack, etc.

When you're president, your words can lead to wars.  Nothing wrong with the mouthpiece of a nation sticking to a script when speaking publicly.

I always thought Bush's best speeches were when he went on his own.

yes - when he spoke on his own, there was emotion.  When scripted,

What % of his speeches (as president) do you believe were earpieced, and what % were scripted via teleprompter or ear bud?

Yeah, I liked Dubya a lot as governor.  Spoke very well on issues and showed a lot more emotion.

Who knows what all cool gadgets the prez gets to wear...

I don't miss Bush - I'm just contrasting the two different styles.

Ear piece or not, that speech came off 10x more heartfelt than Obama's. Liking Bush or not is irrelevant.
