Recently dedicated half of my 4 car garage and built a home gym; squat rack, dumbell rack, upper and lower pulley, cardio machine, benches for all angles imaginable.
So pretty much everything free weights or pulley based can be done; but yet the workouts are still low key, no drive to stack the weights too much, well except for squats and 1-2-3-4 [plates is the only way to go but the rest, "bah, I'll stop bench at 315lb, shoulder feels funny"...
Am I procrastinating or just not "putting a show" like I maybe I was doing in a commercial gym? How can I stay motivated and not "wonder around" and start "sorting bolts" in the middle of "deadlifting to china"?
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beacause of the constant treats from guys like you.... ;D
How have you been man, i'ts been awhile ;D
Just practicality; wake up at 6:30AM... go downstairs, get on the cardio machine (haha yea right)... do back/biceps before going to work...
Get home at night not having to leave the family "compound" and throw an arm workout when I feel like it; watching listening to what I feel like....

Get home at night now having to leave the compound and throw an arm workout when I feel like it; watching listening to what I feel like....

There is a lot of humor in Alex's posts. I don't think many Getbiggers pick up on it.

You are not missing much in a commercial gym. I recommend having set workout times, the freedom to be able to work out when you want leads to less motivation.
Knowing that you can just go in be garage and crank out a chest work doesn't give you mental edge to really go all out.

Heat would be a requirement looks cold, maybe a fireplace is in order.

Excellent idea Alex. No more need to be in a gym with others. Plus its a time saver. With that beard you look like a true alpha. Thats your strength to express yourself and get your point across. The POWER of communication. Strong and tactful. Men should grow beards.

get rid of the television.

the biggest problem working out at home. It's a dead environment, no people, no nothing, hard to get excited. Although it's great to have some small equipment to be able to do a (extra) arm workout here n there. Your pressing exercises are best done in a regular gym with friends. 8)

I hear you King , it seems like I'm always cleaning or putting things away between sets (I'm getting better now) my wife had the same problem she doesn't work out at home anymore.
My recommendations : loud music , turn off the TV and do not bring your laptop to your gym.

If you wanna lift you wanna lift
You don't wanna lift you don't wanna lift
Ain't no if ands or buts about it

Find a training partner, it's more difficult to be lazy when another person is expecting a good workout

4 would be better. one for each chin.

Best thing about home gyms... is lifting without your shirt on...
-
try getting a personal trainer, find one who specializes in weight loss and is willing to make house calls. Good Luck!

I'm a little disappointed Jim hasn't chimed in ... I've heard he's got a home gym we can only dream of... wondering what he thinks is the best way to stay on top!!!

I have always been super motivated at home training. I have more trouble in going to the gym to workout, always feels like a hassle.
-
a double shot of jack daniels, some porn on tv and maybe those stereos blasting some hip hop would do the trick to get you all pumped up for your home workouts, Im dead serious
