Yeah man, Perry has got a real cool voice, but when Rogers sings, he just sounds so fucking masculine ;D Kinda like "Hey woman, you are mine baby" The dude just sounds so cock sure of himself 8) "I take whatever I want, and baby I want you" Feel like makin' Love by Paul Rogers

Jello Biafra ran for mayor of san francisco and wanted to ban cars and make cops wear clown suits.
that's pretty badass.

It's all about range and tone. Consistency in performance and overall health help too.
I don't respect a guy (or gal) who can sing great in the studio but totally bombs in live performances.
Bruce Dickinson manages both aspects very well. He has a great depth and solid range, live and in the studio. The lead singer of Queensrche (Geoff Tate???) has some great depth and range also. He doesnt have the professionalism of Bruce; nevertheless, his studio stuff is phenomenal.
"Eyes of a stranger"
"I don't believe in love"
"Jet City woman"-- my favorites.
Dream Theater: "Pull me under" and "another day" showed some crazy vocal talent. Not sure who was doing the vocals. Petrucci seemed to be the only one who really rose from the ashes.
Joe Lyn Turner with Rainbow was kickin' for a while. Not sure where he went or what happened.
Sebastian Bach and Axel Rose had their moments, but only in the studio. Live performances aren't even worth mentioning. Voices were trash by the time they were a week into their tours.
-
Can't leave out Robert Plant.
And out of the "younger" guys, Chris Cornell has a great rock voice.
-
Yeah man, I forgot about Cornell, now dats a hardass masculine voice right there.

As far as rock singers go, the best by a mile, in my opinion.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GG_Allin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GG_Allin)
GG Allin is perhaps best remembered for his notorious live performances which typically featured transgressive acts, such as Allin defecating and urinating onstage, rolling in feces and often consuming excrement, performing naked, committing self-injury, and attacking audience members
-
Youtube - ed him, not bad.
THE BEEF
what song? TNT - 10,000 lovers? That's the only one anyone knows...lol.

im a fan of jeff and tim buckleys work..... also many other great vocalists........
talent/ability wise .......miljenko guy actually shocked me at first.....
thanks for the lesson man 8)
-
can't believe the lack of love for Bono here. dude may be a douche in the eyes of many, but his control, ...and ability to push his voice without breaking up/screaming is astounding. listen to 510-540 here:
3:00-4:00
or here, 3:45-endf

bono is a decent singer.......loud aswell.......but as far as control and pushin his voice without it breaking up in any way is not even close to being near the best......
that guy posted above.......(melodic screaming)........ has rediculous control and theres no chance of a mistake or his voice breaking up
also see jeff buckley...... most controlled vocalist ever i'd say.......except from a few female vocalists
-
theres only one badass singer and thats leonard cohen
damn good taste my friend
-
jeff and tim have great ability, but don't have the power of a bono/mercury...
also, see jim james of my morning jacket. dude has pipes!

Funny enough, a gay man: Rob Halford from Judas Priest :-). Others- Dio, Plant, Gillan, Coverdale etc..
For those who admired the Miljenko Matijevic scream- Halford was in his younger days perhaps the best of the best- listen to the singing at the end of this song:
This is one of my favorites from the 70s:
NN
-
More Halford:
As you can see, the great James Hetfield needed vocal cord chemical enhancement to match Halford ;D :
NN
-
BONO SUCKS ASS BIG TIME
Mercury is definitely a contender.
I saw Myles Kennedy with Slash last year, Wasn't familiar with his work but he did a great job, and the includes the G 'n' R tunes they played.

-
Levrone.
-
Early U2 was great 8) "New Year's Day" is one of ma all-time favs
-
yes bono is hanging with beyonce these days that says enough ::)
-
Fair enough man, but when they were young and hungry (before commerical success took a hold of them) they were damn good
-
I got to go with Falcon we have seen his singing videos around here before, top notch stuff.
-
"singer" and "badass" = oxymoron. Hope this helps. ::)
-
Hey Mr N, is Falcon at all similar to Ian Anderson of Tull? I'd like to see Falcon singing Aqualung ;D

Yep. couldn't believe it took this long for someone to mention Rob. I saw him opoen for Ozzy 3-4 months ago and he still kicked ass.
Can't forget Barlow too.

I would go with more of a Joe Cocker style for Falcon. Joe was da man.
-
How bout Neil Young? "There was a woman he knew about a year or so ago, she had something that he needed and he pleaded with her not to go, on the day that she left he died but it did not show" The Loner

Soul singers are in an entirely different (and far superior) category, my friend. Stick to the rock genre to maintain the consistency of the thread.

Evidently by his list, it's got something to do with getting shot since 2 out of 3 died that way.
