Title: Super Bowl Snacks 2010
Post by: Butterbean on January 28, 2011, 12:58:20 PM
Might try these

Maple-Bacon Potato Skins
Directions
Toppings: Apple butter, crisp bacon and maple syrup on cheesy skins

Pierce 4 large russet potatoes with a fork. Bake directly on the oven rack at 350 degrees until tender, about 1 hour. Let cool, then quarter lengthwise and scoop out the flesh, leaving a 1/4-inch shell. Brush both sides with melted butter and season with salt and pepper. Bake, skin-side up, at 450 degrees until crisp, about 15 minutes. Add your favorite team toppings. (For cheesy skins, flip the baked shells over before topping, sprinkle with 1 cup grated cheddar cheese and bake an extra 5 minutes.)

(a review said to put the cheese on top of everything)

And this was good...thanks shannon

Oh everyone this is a must try superbowl chip dip. It is absolutly fantastic and all the guys here go crazy for it.  Take a few pieces of chicken breast boil till done. Then in a glass pan any size of your choice spread some low fat cream cheese on the bottom. Then there's this amazing buffalo chicken sauce called texas petes buffalo hot sauce. Pour some of that ontop of the cream cheese. Then take your chicken and shred it into pieces. Put the shredded chicken into a frying pan and saute it with a small amount of butter and somemore of the buffalo sauce. Then put the shredded chicken ontop of the cream chesse and ontop of that add ranch [or blue cheese] dressing. Just kind of drap the dressing on top of it. But not too much. You just kinda have to eyeball it. This is absolutly the best dip ever. As far as the hot sauce Texas Pete is not too spicy but just perfect. Then grap some torrtiila chips and enjoy watching the Patriots Kick some Butt!

What is the best type of cracker/pita chip/etc to serve w/hot crab dip?

Saw on a cooking show nachos made w/pulled pork and bbq sauce and nacho melted cheese (queso-like) on them.  I don't know if this sounds good or gross.    Migs?

pita chips are good, escpecially if warmed/toasted.  Crackers I prefer a very crisp and thicker water craker or table cracker.  the pulled pork nachos sound good, excpet to me they seem like they would look kinda gross.  also the queso-like chhese and the pulled pork would seem to have a strange texture combo.  Kinda seems like it would be slimey.  Not sure but it could work. it would be a messy nacho, which is always good.

not at all.  I'd take a 24-pack of the best beer you can afford.

If you can't cook, you can't cook, so don't even try.  You could offer to buy pizzas for everyone if there's no food when you get there and you've still got any money left...

Reckon they invited you so you could fetch the beer?

Please don't put $all your money$ betting on the losing team beforehand, save enough for sufficient beers.

No.  Just might want to make sure it's something "decent."  A friend if mine's family invited a guy to Christmas dinner and it wasn't a prerequisite that he bring anything and it was the thought that counted but he brought 2 bags of chips.

If you don't want to make anything you might think about taking a platter of sushi over there...if you want to make something easy, you could take BBQ pulled pork (just take it in the crockpot you made it in so you can plug it in and keep warm) and rolls (croissant rolls are good).

And def. take a bottle of wine or some beer or whatever also.

We've got the 6-nations rugby starting tonight.  Think your American Football devolved from our Rugby?

I only watch American Football (yawn) when it's touchdown and you've a few minutes to discuss snacks and who brought what and where's the beer, or better still when rapt, watching them bend over with their padded bums.

Your Cheerleaders are entertaining too, we don't have them...

oops sorry, we don't have that here.  Everyone surely always takes something, be it a bunch of flowers or a bottle of good wine, I've never heard of "pot luck", it sounds embarrassing.

i take it you won't be watching the football, just doing kitchen duty and making sure everyone's well and truly beautifully organically from the best source you can get fed?

that's amazing and I salute you, I couldn't do that

(I'd be in there watching the padded bums when they bend over and the cheerleaders when they jump, whilst drinking all the beer.  I've never been to a super bowl do.

You'll be left with all the dishes afterwards, but as I say, I admire your sense of how to entertain.

Sounds yummy and healthy and made with love

I googled superbowl snaks, (purposely mis-spelling it) hoping to come up with a delicious photo of tasty healthy chicken wings or something, but instead this appeared:

Super Bowl snacks are eaten before, during and after the NFL championship game. People across the United States have Super Bowl parties so they can get together with their friends to watch the game and to have fun. Refreshments for these parties can vary, but they usually consist of a variety of drinks, such as beer, mixed drinks and soda.

Foods served usually consist of appetizers such as nachos, meatballs and chicken wings.

Super Bowl Sunday has become an event all across the United States. It has surpassed New Years Eve as the day when the most parties are held.

More food is eaten on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day except for Thanksgiving.

Americans consume about $50 million worth of snacks during the Super Bowl.

They consume 14,500 tons of potato chips.

have fun, hope your team wins

If you have access to some good stuff, go for it.  It will be $$$.  I've seen little bite sized 'petit fours' cheesecakes in the frozen section at Aldi and Trader Joes that look really good.  If you've never tried Aldi, you're in for a pleasant surprise.  They have some really good, quality stuff.

These are super easy and get rave reviews every time I make them.
( I use 1/2 miracle whip lite & 1/2 greek yogurt instead of mayo and I bake, not fry) Make sure you soak your skewers.

Peanut Chicken Skewers w/Chili Mayonnaise

Makes 24 Hands-On Time: 45m Total Time: 45m
Ingredients
•   3/4 cup salted roasted peanuts,finely chopped
•   1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
•   1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro or flat-leaf parsley
•   kosher salt and black pepper
•   2 8-ounce boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut crosswise into 24 thin strips
•   3 tablespoons canola oil
•   1/2 cup mayonnaise
•   1to 2 teaspoons Asian chili-garlic sauce
•   24 6-inch bamboo skewers
Directions
1.   On a large plate, combine the peanuts, bread crumbs, cilantro, and ½ teaspoon each salt and pepper. Thread each strip of chicken onto a skewer and coat with the peanut mixture, pressing gently to help it adhere.
2.   In batches, heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat and cook the skewers until golden, 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Transfer to a plate as they are cooked and add more oil to the skillet as necessary.
3.   In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and chili-garlic sauce. Serve with the chicken.
By Kate Merker and Sara Quessenberry,  December 2009
The skewers can be assembled and frozen up to 1 month in advance. Freeze them, uncooked, on a parchment-lined baking sheet until firm, then transfer them to a resealable plastic bag. To cook, thaw the skewers on a plate in a single layer in the refrigerator overnight, then cook as directed in the recipe; keep warm at 250º F. The chili mayonnaise can be made and refrigerated up to 2 days in advance.

So does Christina Aquiliaguyerra.  What a mess.  I'm already upset with the sad hairbrained daft dyed blonde woman because she did a very inappropriate show on British TV during primetime which ought to have been banned or at least edited (I abhor the sexualisation of music and of children.  And children were watching her promote her Burlesque movie which didn't do great at the box office anyways.  I blame Simon Cowell frankensteinhead and whoever else decides what's Saturday night family watching...

There she is on 200mill in America plus the rest across the world (I watched the pre-bit, that's always worth watching), in a black dress down past her knees and I'm thinking oh good on you girl, but that's a bit out of character?

I was on my scrabble site at 10:55pm (playing sneezed across a red square!) and there they have one channel to chat on, so as I'm clocking the tv, the clever wordie types on my wwwscrabble site are quoting the correct words to the US national anthem.  funny that.

Then I switched it off and went to bed.  Heard it was a very exciting game and I hope your snacks were fab too.  In fact, I'd gone out earlier and bought (which is madness), then eaten a whole 99p pack of Dorritos Cool, which I've never done before.

xLinda
pity we don't have just one nice thread on Getbig to go to, to rely on, to get the current news?

It would've been so fun to have known where to go to have seen others' comments on Ms Divorced Old Slut Rock Star dyed blonde with a long black dress on doing the Superbowl getting the words wrong but recovering, singing the same verse twice...  Even I know that recipe and can recite the words and I'm British.

There are no adverts on BBC TV, so they showed and I watched the other pre-bit about how wonderful America is, with Michael Douglas, which made me cry, big time.  Then Agwegaga made me laugh my head off, sigh and turn off.

they were delicious, on a slightly related note though the pot luck was a bad experience for me though. I ended up getting violently ill with food poisening and threw up all night after getting home and monday morning.

When I throw up real hard I get these red blotches on my face and this was probably the most intense vomiting ive ever done lol :)

I had a 2nd interview with a company today in which i interviewed with the owner and had to do so with my face looking like i had just had an allergic reaction. :(

It was really healthy at my cousins-ham,chicken cutlets, pork cutlets,2 types of ribs, egg plant parm, pulled pork, steak briscut.......and a wee liddle salad at the end of the table ;D

Sounds like a good spread  ;D

We had Louisiana style gumbo (Paul Prudhomme recipe), dirty rice with andouille sausage, roast beef (grass fed, local steer), antipasto platter, fruit and cheesecake and of course, assorted wines and beers  ;D

no comment on awful SuperBowl Anthem singer then?  Oh well - guess you were puking.

I was very sick recently, had the swine flu full-on for 3 weeks over Christmas, but I'm all better now and am feeling perky...

I thought i had suffered from food poisening before but after this last weekend im not so sure. Those other times may have just been an upset stomach or something b/c this was freaking intense sickness.

No, this is a job that i can kind of take or leave unless they really come through in the pay department and I had already met with them and am pretty sure they will make an offer. It was just to meet the owner and let him get to know me type of deal.

but thank you for the sympathies and I dont blame the super bowl snacks they were delicious at the moment.

they were delicious, on a slightly related note though the pot luck was a bad experience for me though.

Hmm. I know someone that says the reason they get sick when they drink a bunch of martinis is because of the pimentos in the olives  ;D

no comment on awful SuperBowl Anthem singer then?

It was pretty bad!

Yes yes, England is right and the US is wrong.  England is smart and the US is dumb.  England is pretty and the US is not very good looking...etc.

LOL nothing to do with the hard liquor ehh?

I did drink but not to excess, lol ive been sick from alcohol and ive still never thrown up as hard as i did this past weekend. I honestly would not have been suprised if id seen my feet come out of my mouth. My whole body hurt back, abs, ribs, neck and shoulders oh my shoulders were killing me from tightening up so much.

all better now though and ready to hit the gym tonight :)
