is still use this stuff, out of sheer convenience because its easy to just make a shake for breakfast instead of spending time making other shit.
but every damn time i go to buy a new tub my brain always torments me with thoughts of 'is this stuff actually doing anything??'
its to the point now that when i bring the tub up to the counter i say 'just this placebo powder thats all' ;D

I see protein powder essential as food. Convienent and effective!
-
Check to make sure it has the secret bee pollen ingredient. ;D

Yea..I wonder the same many times...how do we know its real protein or some sweetened low grade flour? Does the tub contains the amount of protein manufacturers claim on the "supplement facts" labels?

Do not trust any protein powder supplements!
There is not governement control over the manufacturing supplements company!
Supplements are not regulated and controlled because they are not prescription drugs.
Until the governement step up and start checking supplements like it does with drugs you will never know what you are getting when you buy protein powder tub.
Considering the false ads claim that supplement company produce regarding the efficacy of their products I have no reason to trust them.
Would you trust a protein product from Muscletech after you read the ridiculous claim regarding ANABOLIC HALO or ANATOR-70?
Be smart if you are too lazy to cook egg whites for breackfast eat low fat cottage cheese and you will be sure to get real whey protein ( 3 pounds box of low fat cottage cheese will give you about 154 grams of real proteins and cost only 4.99 at costco).
If you are too lazy to grill chicken breast for lunch open a can of tuna ,it is inexpensive and will give you real protein.
Do not let the snake oil salesman became rich on your expense!

That's yet one more reason why it's good to just eat real food.
Protien powders are shit. Just drink milk and eggs and yogurt if you want a high protien drink.
-
Protein is WAY over-rated, I'm maybe taking in 100 grams daily and my arms keep getting stronger and stronger and bigger ;D

Same here. I don;t even try to eat a high protien diet really. I just eat a balanced diet and my progress hasn't slowed at all.
I used to get like 2x as much protien as I do now. And it didn't make any noticable difference in my strength or muscle with the exact same training schedule.
-
It's all down to the individual really - I don't respond to a low protein intake - I've tried eating 150 grams a day and it didn't work - I'm now on about 350 grams a day. About 100-150 grams of this is from protein powder and the rest is from chicken and beef. If I wasn't taking the protein powder I would surely notice a difference in my appearance and in my workouts for the worse. Also, it's cheaper than buying meat in bulk too. I get all my protein powder from myprotein.co.uk - excellent company and I've been using them now for about two years - not sure if they ship to the US tho but the US has some good companies anyway.

This
Too much will slow you down as your body will spend all it's energy digesting it.

Overhyped so that young sucker weight lifters will keep on spending their cash on it. Just like almost everything at GNC.

how do we know for sure the claimed amount of protein in one service is accurate?
How do I know it's, lets say, 30grams of protein? it could be 8 grams of protein and 22 grams of shit.
There was a document about the amount of carbohydrates in bred... the package claimed 20 grams of carbs, but guess what? They went to a lab and put the claim to a test, and voila, the reality was it had 30 grams MORE than what they claimed.

Eat some eggs. Unless you juice or are sick it's a waste of money.

WTF
That powder is protein. Consuming it is consuming protein. Why so hard to understand? FFS, of course it 'works' the way it's supposed; it gives you nutrients.
-
drink your own piss to check urea content.

Or, maybe they threw a bunch of cheap shit into that powder instead of protien and nutrients. Because it's cheaper for them and give them a greater profit margin?
Everybody is out for money and maximum profit in this system. Especially supplement companies.
And supplements are notorious for lacking proper tests and FDA oversight. They can basically put whatever the fuck they want in there.

yes we know protein powder is protein but i always wonder wheter an expensive super duper protein is really better than a cheap one. i really doubt it.
-
Your mom doesn't doubt it

protein powders aren't bad if you buy a good brand.
I always heard ultimate nutrition was legit. Twinlab seemed good. EAS too
if it has modest advertising it shouldn't be too bad.

It's not flour because it would not dissolve in water or milk at all. It's not any type of carbohydrate either because that would be lumpy and sticky.
I stopped consuming protein "powder" a long time ago. This stuff is filled with toxic artificial sweeteners.
All the protein I need is in eggs, meat, fish, cottage cheese, etc...

Don't you studs believe in recycling?
Here's a little tidbit of information for you guys..
Semen is rich in:
Sugars: Fructose, sorbitol, inositol
Proteins and amino acids: glutathione, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), creatine
Minerals: Phosphorus, zinc, magnesium, calcium, potassium
Vitamins: Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), vitamin B12, choline
Hormones: Testosterone, prostaglandins
Body byproducts: Lactic acid, urea, uric acid, nitrogen
You guys are going about it all wrong, the secret to most pro-bodybuilder's success is their ability to gather their nutritional needs straight from the source. Just like a mother's breast milk is way more nutritional for you then cowmilk, there is something that can be said about protein straight from the tap..

There's a very simple solution to that - just buy a protein powder that's 100% whey - it'll either be isolate, concentrate, or a blend of both. Me personally I use 100% whey concentrate - for every 100g of powder there's 82g of digestible protein in there - isolate is even better - around 95% - the only reason I don't buy that as I haven't noticed a major difference between the two and isolate is way more expensive.
-
I think in canada were a litte bit stricter about labeling shit, so just buy a brand that seems good in canada, atkeast I think.
But like jasonh the more boring the label the greater the likelyhood that it is legit.
