Undertaker has been with the WWE since the fall of 1990.

Micheals bitched out for several years though,I think Undertaker has been there longest uninterrupted, minus injuries or time off.

HBK was also fired ("temporarily") shortly after he & Marty debuted due to a destruction of property charge against them.
They were brought back pretty quickly, though - possibly because Pat Patterson had a bit of a crush on Janetty (as rumor has it).

Shawn has also missed a lot of time for various little ass-aches, tantrums, and legit injuries.

While he's missed his share of time as well, I think that Taker is the longest CONSISTENT member of the Federation roster.

I don't think Undertaker ever "lost his smile" either.

Anyone remember years ago when he had to surrender the IC title...forget what the WWE story was but reality was he got his ass kicked in a Buffalo or Albany Bar and could not compete.....

That was following the Syracuse incident, in which a couple of Marines roughed him up after "Boy Toy" made some inappropriate remarks to one of the men's girlfriends.
On-air, Shawn just walked out, told everyone that he "lost his smile," surrendered the belt to Shane Douglas, and they played a music video for him. ::)
Prick.

Then there was the time Shawn was stripped of the belt for violating the "failure to defend the title within 30-days" clause.
It's been said that, in reality, Shawn's brief absence was because he failed his drug test and was serving a suspension.
Ironically, it set up the infamous ladder match between HBK & Hall for WMX, which elevated both their careers.

Wasn't his drug suspension for steroids even though he probably looked the worst he ever had in his career?

He looked like a butterball at one point right around WM9 at Ceaser's Palace.
