Title: ND, the Shawn Ray and his cousin pic, who had the better genes?
Post by: Parker on February 03, 2011, 01:49:06 PM
So who had the better genes? Shawn Ray or his cousin, Al Claybourne, who is the 1987 Palm Springs Classic Champion.

This is from the the UK Flex Flex, June 1993.
There is a article in there by Shawn Ray. He states that his competiton weight was 196, and that made sure that his bodyweight never went over 210 in the offseason.

I quoute: "In previous offseasons, I've never gone more than 15 pounds above my competition weight (196 pounds). I never blow up after a contest, and I pride myself on always looking like an ath;ete. This year, however, I plan to hit an offseason high of 225 pounds, which compared to previous years, will make me look like a monster."

This is from 1993, odd how supposedly in his fisrt Mr. O he weighed 201.5 pounds...Unless he went up, then down. So, for his 1992 Mr. oO weight he was approx.

That name sounds familiar. Met this guy years ago in LA when I worked out at Bally's in Culver City. I commented on how his physique resembled Shawn Ray's. He told me they were cousins.

damn, shawn ray was good. one of the best of all time. I always liked his very focused and fast paced workouts. He also did the reps with high rep speed but  it was obvious he had a great mind-muscle connection.

Thats how he would wear out his workout partners---even when pressing 150-180 pound dumbells.
