Post here movies which you considered awesome, but which haven't got any wider recognition for inexplicable reasons.
I'm gonna start. "Star Force Soldier" with Kurt Russell, from 1998.

Foreigner starring Steven Seagal. Atleast that part where he throws a cd-rom at the bad guy and the cd explodes, killing the bad guy.

Jackie Brown is underrated
Not underrated, still a famous movie all around the world (eventough Tarantinos weakest by far).
With "underrated" in this case I mean great movies, the majority of the population probably hasn't even heared about. Which sucked completely at the box office and maybe didn't even make it to foreign markets, evntough they were awesome watching them. ;D

The most under-rated horror film is "Night of the Living Dead" the 1st one, circa 1968

Good movie, Russell clearly hopped on the sauce for that one.

A lot of those 70's(give or take a few years) films are spectacular, shame most young folks don't recall them or even worse, confuse them with remakes(in the case of "Get Carter").

True. I recently just watched Get Carter, and this time through really noticed that Newcastle was the real star. Very gritty and hearkens back to an almost other lifetime ago, but of course it was only '71. I was also so taken by Eddie Coyle that I have a copy of George Higgins' book on my shelf. Great dialogue, and Elmore Leonard says it is one of his favourite reads.

Great flick, but hardly underrated

''Close encounters of the 4th kind''

Jackie Brown is underrated
One of the worst films i've ever tried to watch. I couldn't even watch it to the end i found it so poor. That and Death Proof are easily his worst films in my opinion.

Death proof was hilarious.

You know I though Jackie Brown was great but I'm with you on Death Proof , I thought it sucked badly

I see , I thought death proof was Tarantino's weakest by far , but most people I know who watch his films haven't seen Jackie Brown .

BB got me thinking about under appreciated crime flicks. I'll throw up The Limey. Terrence Stamp is great, as is the supporting cast. 'You tell him I'm coming!'
-
I'd also toss in "Point Blank", which was re-made as "Payback" in the 90's. Based on the Westlake(Stark) Parker books-
.
And while it's more mainstream, I'll toss up The Getaway, mainly bcause it's free, is a great quick flick, and stars a awesomely scary Al Letteri as the head bad guy. Shame he died early.
.
That's my gift---

Ha, Gummo struck me as a film you don't really watch, but rather look at and go WTF?-
.

RED, Good, Agora, The American.

The Limey is fantastic. Point Blank, too. Not sure if these were underrated or just underpopular.
I'll add State of Grace, City Hall, Beautiful Girls, Insomnia (Chris Nolan remake), and Ladykillers (Coens remake). Also, Session 9 and The Descent - most underrated horror flicks ever.

Get Carter was good but I cant say it was better than Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
