Title: RxMuscle Plagiarizes Brett Michaels interview
Post by: IndustryInsider on February 09, 2011, 11:42:24 AM
If any more proof were needed, the RxMuscle owner and staff have gone out of their way to prove that they’re a bunch of theives. They actually stole a f*cking published article from a f*cking diabetes website, and tried to pass it off as their own unique piece. As if we’re all going to believe that Brett Michaels granted an interview to some some guy from RxMuscle (Leigh Penmen).

And just so there’s no confusion, this was clearly NOT an example of the site failing to credit the real author by mistake, as it not only appeared on the main page crediting Leigh, but was also promoted by one of their admins, a dude named Sally Anne, in their forums, again claiming it was an original interview for the site.

Seriously? Stealing from a diabetes site? That’s low even for Rx.

Its an open and shut case as far as it goes.  Leigh wrote a bullshit article.  Not really RX Muscle's fault unless Dave had full knowledge of it which I'd doubt.  New York Times had a person do the same shit and it happens very often.

Leigh wrote a lot for BB.com and for many years so I'm not sure why she would do that.

Not true. Dave or Sallyanne had to put the article on the website, a red flag should have been raised as soon as they saw the name Bret Michaels. They should have questioned Leigh on how/why Bret would have talked to Rxmuscle. They are ultimately responsible for all the content put on the website. This is extremely embarrassing for RX, they have become the joke of the industry. Aaron's column has been wrong several times and now this, it's a new low.

Well, whether they knew is up for debate.  Like I said, Leigh has written for a number of sites for years so there wasn't any reason to doubt an article written by her.  But they will unfortunately have to deal with the consequences.

The onus was on them to check the source. When you see a celebrity like Bret Micheals that should have been a red flag.

Agreed.  There was no rush on publishing this article and there should have been some checks and balances done prior to releasing the article.  But ultimately its the fault of the person who stole the work.

I checked the source and its from DiabeticMommy.com.  Doesn't look like a major site at all so I don't think Dave will have to worry about any legal action.

It was taken down immediately after it was discovered. Leigh has written many many original articles and interviews in the past. This kind of thing happens... Even to the NY Times:

Just because the nytimes did it does NOT make it ok. You guys never take responsibility. As far as your "column" when you were wrong about Wolf YOU said it was NEWS not gossip.

As far as this Bret Michaels thing, Sallyanne and/or Dave were the ones that put up the article, the onus was on them to check that it was legit. This is Bret Michaels, it's not like Leigh sent in an interview with Toney Freeman, we are talking a celebrity. Sallyanne should have questioned it. She is just as culpable and so is Dave for allowing it.

I understand why you do it, you guys look for the sensational story because you have no quality content.

Leigh Penman is sorry!

At this point I had to step in.... first thank you Debbie for your support and understanding... I put up an apology thread that seemed to disappear.... but that is beside the point...

And... I just heard that Sally Ann has been blamed in some quarters for this by using my name on an article she constructed... NOT TRUE. Sally is a decent person and would NEVER stoop to this level...
Now to me....the gender question first of all...yes I am transitioning from female to male... but that is hardly an issue here. However a lot of people dont understand that yet and think I should just embrace my femininity....I wasnt born with any so that would be hard to do...

OKAY all that said...the article. Can I rationalize or defend what I did? NO. I fucked up in a way that even I can't explain...I still cant...

I have been going through SO MANY harsh personal issues at this point in my life that right now even I don't know if I am capable of bouncing back. Sure I walk around with a smile on my face... but am I smiling now????? Damn I can hardly see the keyboard as I write this so that gives you a clue....
Listen...I make NO excuses for what I did.... I took quotes from another article in an attempt to come up with something positive and inspiring... even that looks pathetic as I re read it... I LOVE RX and would never do anything to cast a shadow over it. Dave gave me my first real break in bodybuilding writing in this country and I THANK him for that. I wish I could rationalize what I did to you all but how in the hell can I when I can't even rationalize it to myself?

OK... I could say... I had just moved apartments... was having major flooding issues from the word go in my new one... hadn't slept for days... hadn't been able to focus on my writing.. had stuff going on in other areas of my life that I was trying to deal with too..... once again.... does this excuse me??? NO.

Right now what I do know is that I am good at what I DO and I want to bounce back.Whether I am allowed to is out of my hands. All I do know is that as they say... to err is human to forgive divine..... we ALL make mistakes in our life. This one just happened to be more public.

And... once again and for the last time... I am not writing this to save my ass... I am writing this to MAKE SURE it is CLEAR that this is MY mistake.... MY responsibility... MY error. I admit it... I own it... I can't justify it. I just hope that I can pull back the pieces of my life after it. I am NOT a bad person... I HAVE a heart... please try and think of that before you cast another stone......

Title: RxMuscle- More advertising fraud
Post by: IndustryInsider on February 14, 2011, 08:45:07 AM
Online advertising is based on two basic premises, the first being that a website will attract a certain amount of people to view the advertisement, and the second being that the people viewing the advertisement will click on the ad. There are some other minutea involved, but these are the basic premises of online advertising, and these two factors are used in determining the worth of advertising on a given site.

When someone goes to a site and clicks on an advertisement, that’s called a click-through. Monthly click-throughs are commonly used to determine whether an online advertising campaign is working. Naturally, this is because people see an online advertisement, and say “hey, I really could use: a bigger penis/some viagra/a free iPod” – and these people click on the ad because they want what it’s promoting.

If people don’t actually want to click on the advertisement, and click on it by mistake, they aren’t going to make a purchase. Everyone has done this; clicked on an advertisement for something by mistake, and immediately closed the window. This is called an accidental click-through, and typically has a 0% conversion rate for the (adveritsing) company getting the click. In other words, the advertiser sees the potential “customer” visiting their site, and thinks the ad-campaign is working – but in reality that person was never a potential  customer, because they landed on the site accidentally…they never actually wanted to click the ad.

Scamtastic websites make use of the accidental click through by placing advertisers links impossibly close to other links on the site, or even on top of existing clickable icons. This is one of the oldest scams in the book to make a worthless advertising campaign appear like it’s producing clicks. Ultimately, when the client says they’re not converting the clicks to sales, the scammers  blame the client’s sales page, or their product write ups, or whatever.

RxMuscle takes advantage of the accidental click-through to inflate the value of advertising on their site, by placing links to their clients over existing buttons on their media player.

So, if you’re watching a video of Dave Palumbo interviewing some black dude with gyno, and you try to pause the video (or stop it, or fast forward it, or whatever), you will accidentally click on the VPX Sports banner (which has purposely been placed over some of the media controls), and go to their homepage. Check it out:

[EliteFitness.com does this quite a bit, and their scam is twofold, because they immediately offer you "consulting" to help you redesign your sales page, at a tremendous cost. ]

Post by: maxkane69 on February 14, 2011, 01:11:56 PM
The overly of positive comments about Lee Haney and Arnold in various post, made me realize that Getbig and most of getbiggers are not bodybuilding haters but nostalgic bb fans frustrated at the current state of bodybuilding.
In reality getbiggers love bodybuilding they just hate what bodybuiding has became!
Getbiggers love THE PRE-PALUMBISMO ERA OF BODYBUILDING rapresented by Arnold and Lee Haney:
-an era when it was cool to be a bodybuilder,
-an era when most of the women were turned on by the  bodybuilder body and not repulsed by it,
-an era when most of the men looked with respect and admiration toward bodybuilders because they envied their body,
-an era when bodybuilding fans loved their champions because their physique and demeanor,
-an era with no synthol and no insulin.
They said Getbig is a negative site for bodybuilding but I think instead that Getbig is the best site because it keep real and it  is a place were the truth has more chance to be exposed to the novice of bodybuilding.
Getbig and the negative attitude toward the current state of bodybuilding is the sign of the time, and most of the people that make fun at the bodybuilding scene of today really love bodybuilding like used to be, before the advent of this shameful time we are living: THE PALUMBISMO ERA OF BODYBILDING!

There is not much to be proud of with modern bodybuilding. The extreme steroid use, the disregard for health, the plunge into full-on trainwreck megadosing, the shitty grim personalities of the top bodybuilders....... it's all bad.

Reading a bodybuilding magazine is like reading High Times. Except instead of weed, the magazine is all about steroids. 100% drugs either way.

Old school bodybuilding was more cool. If it was like that today then I would probably go on dbol and try to compete. But in todays bodybuilding world I don't want anything to do with it.
