NBC
CAIRO — Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak is to step down Thursday night, two sources told NBC News, as widespread protests against his 30-year rule continue to grip the country.
Following an all-day meeting of the country's supreme military council, the army said all of the protesters' demands would be met and that a further statement was due to be made later Thursday that would clarify the situation.
NBC News reported that a high-ranking source inside the president's office said Mubarak would step down and the newly appointed vice president, Omar Suleiman, would take over. This was then confirmed by a second source.
The news came following repeated warnings by members of the regime of a military crackdown or coup.
Some pro-democracy protesters reacted cautiously, saying they would only believe Mubarak was really resigning when he announces it on state television.

"pro democracy" in the middle east..... ::)
-
Story being denied.
-
i see that the prime minister is denying it, he says no decision has been made. will have to wait and see tonight
-
Why should he leave?

Why should he leave?
i dont think he cares about the hippies.
but the generals, they seem to matter
-
Should have the leadership of the Brotherhood executed before he steps down.

I think bama planted this story to save face w the story that came out today.
-
Just reported he's not stepping down. I'd suggest you get your facts straight from now on. Interesting that you attack others for the very same thing you just did.
Hypocrite. :D :D :D :D
-
He also told obama to STFU and back off. Good for him

Fuck'n owned. He's was all over 33 like a bitch in heat.

Even if Mubarak stays in power there is no way in hell he's going to go back to being an ally of the Obama regime. Yet another disastrous handling of foreign affairs.
Fuck'n owned. He's was all over 33 like a bitch in heat.
Yup. Typical hypocrite.

Funny thing is that the story on the nukes is still evolving and the sos has not really responded other than the nonsense about about START which nile gardiner sliced and diced.
-
obama talking at all during the process was a mistake. but, he had leaders from ISR, Saudis, and who konws else, pressuring him.
LOL @ the GOP 2012ers who all kept silent and refused to comment their opinion - who are gonna be shitting all over obama for it. Like romney refusing to take a position on the Surge until it was over, then crapping on obama for being against it. oh brother... better to be wrong and have some conviction, some actual beliefs, than to just be quiet and hate all over everyone else for it.

The Saudis told him to shut the fuck up and said that they would bankroll Mubarak and keep him in power if Obama wouldn't. This is on his head. Not the Saudi's, Israel or anyone else. The Obama regime has flip flopped almost 10 times in the span of a week on this and now they're reaping the repercussions of it.
This started 2 years ago when he sat silent as the Iranian govt. decimated the Iranian populace when they shut down their protests.
-
hey, like i said, him talking at all was a mistake. either stand with our ally, or stand in the way of democracy... a lose/lose. i'd recommend bush stay quiet too.
that being said, any politician who didn't share their opinion, on either party, should STFu with criticism. it's monday night quarterbacking if they didn't get on record til it is settled.

Biden started off the circus act with his his lunacy.

Most of the stuff posted on this board is spouted off by people who can't even be bothered to fact check, let alone confirm anything. This board has turned into little more than a dumping ground for youtube clips from various MSM TV shows.
This story was posted on a lot of MSM outlets, including some of the biggest papers in the UK. Why not direct your blame at them? Or are you saying the MSM, which roughly 50% of Americans think is too liberal, is incompetent and posts false stuff? If that's the case then it doesn't look too hot for the MSNBCs and NY Times' of the world.
name them ???

Mubarak speech surprises U.S.
Update 5:29 p.m. ET: The White House reporters' pool traveling on Air Force One with President Barack Obama passes along that Obama watched Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's speech during the flight back to Washington and was to convene a meeting with his national security advisers once he had returned to the White House.
_____
U.S. sources closely involved in the government's handling of the Egyptian crisis told NBC News that they were "taken by surprise" by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's announcement and that it appears "Mubarak is going nowhere."
The officials told NBCs Jim Miklaszewski that they were especially concerned about Mubarak's apparent declaration that he would "federalize the streets." They said, however, that their reaction was based on an initial translation of Mubarak's remarks.
"We have assurances, both private and public, that the military would not fire on the people," one of the officials stressed.

The Obama regime is a bigger failure than Blacken's education was. Same goes for the CIA and their "reliable intel" that Mubarak was stepping down. ::)
Like Blacken, Obama and his cronies are asleep at the wheel. :-\

What a friggin mess.

What a friggin mess.
Losing the Saudis now, too. Debka's reporting that Obama's convo with the King yesterday was so intense that there were actually reports saying he had a heart attack.

Fucking failure.

Obama sharply criticizes Egyptian govt's move
Yahoo ^ | 2/10/11 | Ben Feller - ap
WASHINGTON – Bristling with impatience, President Barack Obama on Thursday openly and sharply questioned whether Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's pledge to shift power to his vice president is an "immediate, meaningful or sufficient" sign of reform for a country in upheaval.
Without naming Mubarak, Obama issued a written statement that criticized the leader for not offering clarity to his people or a concrete path to democracy. He called on Egyptian government leaders to do so, declaring: "They have not yet seized that opportunity."

Egypt crisis: President Hosni Mubarak resigns as leader
Hosni Mubarak has decided to step down as president of Egypt.
Vice-President Omar Suleiman made the announcement in a brief statement on state TV.
It came as thousands massed in Cairo and other Egyptian cities for an 18th day of protest to demand Mr Mubarak's resignation.
Protesters responded by cheering, waving flags, embracing and sounding car horns. "The people have brought down the regime," they chanted.
Mr Suleiman said Mr Mubarak had handed power to the high command of the armed forces.
"In the name of God the merciful, the compassionate, citizens, during these very difficult circumstances Egypt is going through, President Hosni Mubarak has decided to step down from the office of president of the republic and has charged the high council of the armed forces to administer the affairs of the country," he said.
"May God help everybody."
