I've figured it's all bullshit for quite a while but these guys freaked me out a bit:

They keep showing up with these programs on the end of the world in 2012...  It may not happen, but what does concern me is the vast number of people that do believe 2012 is the end which can have its own ramifications.

There is no evidence anywhere that the world is going to end on December 21, 2012. There has never been a calendar nor artifact with a date stamped on it that said/says a particular thing is going to happen on an EXACT DATE. As it stands those who have investigated the MAYAN CALENDAR/HISTORY and people, some of who are still in the lower regions of Mexico and Guatemala and Nicaragua, said the translation of the calendar is NOT one of the end of the world, but rather a CHANGE IN THE WORLD. The elders amongst the people then detail how the world has gone through a number of changes over so many thousands of years and these changes result in a change in the behaviors of people, change in the earths landscape, change in the oceans etc etc... but under no idea have the Mayans, Babylonians, Egyptians, Sumerians, Native People, or the Indians of India(Sanskrit) have ever talked about the world coming to an end.... that is the game of Hollywood.

On the topic of the Mayan calendar ending - its just another calendar.

Before the Mayan's there were other civilizations with their own calendar(s). They too ended.
