IBM's "Watson" supercomputer is playing on Jeopardy this week and is kicking ass + taking names. Scores after two shows:
Watson: $35,734
Brad Rutter: $10,400
Ken Jennings: $4,800
Bodybuilding related: what supplement do you think Watson should buy with his winnings?
-
Pretty cool.
However, at final jeopardy, when the category was "U.S. Cities", how did Watson come up with "Toronto"?????
Regardless, super cool.
-
you know that stupid fuck computer's gonna bet it all in final jeopardy and answer with "leg" and lose it all.

isn't that computer hooked up to what amounts to basically 2,000 or so computers

I don't think that Watson is allowed on the internet (of course enforcing this rule might be difficult lol).
I think it's just fed thousands of encyclopedias and stuff of that sort.

"He crashed a bunch of times," he said. "It took over four hours to tape the show--most of the delays were due to crashes."

Correction at 12:04 p.m.: After this story was published, we heard from PBS producer Michael Bicks that it was not, in fact, Watson that crashed during the show's taping. He would like to make clear the following: "I missblogged last night--It was not Watson, but the system that was the interface between Watson and the Jeopardy computer, completely separate from Watson, that crashed during the taping."
