For those of you that attended today's Flex Pro, pre-judging or evening show, I'm just curious what size audience did it get? Was it sold out? If not, was it three-fourths full, two-thirds full, half full?
-
however the turnout was chick will add another 5k on top.

Not (Arnold Classic crowded) but the usual amount who would attend on another rainy February night in LA! Especially with the All Stars going on!

We were forced to watch the Pound 4 Pound crap....and just my luck I had front row seats for THAT!!!!!!! :P
-
It was fkin' crazy, bro! Trust me! They had to remove the seats because of so many last-minute participants getting their tickets just before the show at the door - crowd was standing all over the place...

I estimate over 400 at prejudging, and a little over 1,000 at the evening show. The seating capacity at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium is around 2,800 or so

Obscure, but I totally got it. Unfortunately, the GNC was a tragic story of what 'coulda been' if only the right people had been in charge of making the SHOW decisions.

I would've preferred competing with 'American Idol' for the old Ironman location in Pasadena. ;)

We had Zack Khan and Troy Alves over and a lot of local competiters, was a great show

bullshit, the crowd there was massive but not that massive.
-

NPC shows can garner a large audience because of family and friends that come to support the competitor. Pro contests tickets are much more expensive, and the competitors come from all over, which don't bring in the family and friends, but the die hard fans who come to watch.
-
Ron is pretty close....we had just under 600 at Prejudging, and right around 1200 at the night show....floor seating was 700 seats
All in all it was a very well run production, finals time was just over 2 hours...

Thanks but why bother? SOME one here are not into the sport of just want such stats to knock it down further. Some have never and will never go to the shows. But they like sitting at their moms boyfriends apartment criticizing the sport. I saw you snapping away during the Pound 4 Pound contest.

Doesn't that summarize bodybuilding's fan base in general?

YESSS!!!
-

No....most of the fans at the shows are either family and friends of a competitor or/ and former and current competitors not competing. That's really it.
-
True .. What Regmac just stated above
-
Thanks everyone for your replies!
As for the below, this is not me. I would NEVER, NEVER criticize this sport. I couldn't go, and was just curious what size crowd did attend (which from your replies, sounds pretty good).

So guys, what would it be called? This "art?" As someone who, when I was younger, spent hours in the gym and enjoyed every minute of it, and as a result radically changed my appearance (all done naturally), I have too much respect for weight training and bodybuilding to speak ill of it. I will still never trash talk... whatever you want to call it.

Easy, bro.
I'm also fan of the sport (or whatever you wanna call it). But always when I describe bodybuilding as a sport I add "or whatever you wanna call it "
I was just participating lynching with the pic I posted... as there is huge bunch of guys failed bodybuilding-wannabes here that hate bodybuilding ;D

Bodybuilders wonder why there is so little money in bodybuilding but there is your answer. I think the wise bodybuilders would become personal trainers as I think they could net a high hourly wage by doing so. They should not rely solely on bodybuilding prize money.

who do you believe does, other than the top guys?

It's true - Only the top six or maybe top 10 can rely on bodybuilding alone for income.
It comes up now and then that bodybuilders feel they are entitled to more money. For example, Victor Martinez said in MD that he felt BB.com should give money back to the bodybuilders essentially because they are the reason why the site makes so much money [I disagree with this and it greatly diminishes the contributions of others to the site]. Also, Steve Namat was saying that one of the supplement companies should pay more money. It all comes down to market value. Supplement contracts are voluntary. If a pro is not pleased with the terms, they are free to not sign.
-
I know what Vic means by that statement, but it's ludicrious to think such a business model could work...how would the BBers get paid? And based on what? If BBcom uses BBers for BBcom, they get paid...but from what Vic says, ESPN would/ should have to pay any athlete whos picture or footage appears on Sports center.

Exactly. And BB.com actually invested all of their profits back into the site until 2003, just before you signed with them. If they had been made to pay more to bodybuilders they would never have been able to make the reinvestment, sign you on, grow more, reinvest more, etc. Such a business model just doesn't work as you said. I see where Victor is coming from but it's just not a practical request.

Agreed...It's too bad such a model isnt followed anymore, seems to me that if it aint broke, why fix it? Go figure... ???

Promoters at some local shows make more money than the pro shows. We had that type of turnout at our local show and no prize money was given out.
-
(all done naturally)
Pussy to the 2nd power.
*facepalm*
-
VIP was supposedly sold out, but I was sitting there and there tons of empty seats. A ton of people must have paid for seats just to never show up ???

I think the ASC and Olympia's are the only shows that get "sold out". I remember going to Columbus in 2005. While waiting to enter the venue...a couple showed up and the guy was looking to see where to purchase tickets only to find out it was sold out!

The Arnold is always loaded with scalpers.

Yeah! I don't think the Olympia ever had them!

Family members of bikini and figure gals pretty much fund the whole NPC USA in Vegas but they get on my nerves up on the balcony. They all make fun of anything having to do with bodybuilding. But once the bantamweight men come out they are all gone and there is more open seating up there!

Close to it...but some are husbands and fathers even more boring. They have no interest in the rest of the show or whats going on. But they DO pay the bill. By the way. Most of the pro s attend for free via sponsors, I think and have the best seats in the house DOWN THERE!

They must be proud :-X :-X
Oh fuk, I hope I never get daughter... Would bee too much to see it spit on, face slapped, fisted, anally raped etc.
Plus the fact that I would have to watch it whoring in slut-clothes all over the streets at night... maybe even see it shaking ass at bikini contest for a crowd of guys wanking watching it on live stream... Hell, I'm feeling bad for all fathers of girls
-
Bodybuilding is an individual "sport". "They" are lucky they get paid at all. If all competitions disappeared tomorrow, the bodybuilding.com's of the world would still be massively profitable because people still want to lift and GETBIG
-

As anyone with half a brain knows, the division of profits between "corporations" (e.g bb.com, ifbb, etc) and their "workers" (bbers) is not defined by any "objective" market rule and so what u get is what u should get- but rather by how the game is structured. When "workers" have a say at how the game is structured they get this much (XXXXX) of the overall profits when they dont, they get this much (X).
Funny then that the athletes/workers rep is always the first to say that the way things are is the only way things can be and bbers have to live with that
Reminds me of the good old days when the unions were run by the bosses, especially when the union rep has left the factory floor many years ago , to live off the crumbles from the master's table
i can only dream of a

day were some "worker" will show bob that there are harder hitting things than at the Mirage hotel
