Always workout around 430 or 5 am on empty stomach. Nice thing about working out at that time is you get it out of the way.

What about your energy levels for the rest of the day? I assume you work a regular fulltime job?

What I like to do is eat 1-2 protein bars (or even basic granola bars) about 15-30 minutes prior to heading out to the gym in the morning (Usually 5 am workout).  I get a good hour workout in, shower and then head straight to work from there.

It is refreshing and gets my day going right!

I've tried working out after work, but that only makes your day much longer and gives you very little leisure time once you get home from the gym before having to hit the sack.  Not to mention that trying to get a solid workout in during the evening hours is difficult, because everyone tries to go workout at that particular time, so you'll always find a wait behind every machine or station.

Have a ton of energy as long as I'm asleep by 10pm. I work from home now, but when I worked full time and commuted 40 minutes each way to work, wasn't a problem in the least.

Are you guys talking more about cardio in the am or lifting also?  Cardio is fine, but I'm weak as a wet washcloth ( no comments newmom) on an empty stomach.....that goes for the same during the day, etc....  I have found I really need something to eat within a couple of hours of working out.

affeman, I do cardio. When I worked 10 minutes away, I worked out in the am and then would hit the gym for an hour after work. I still go twice a day but I do cardio though

Nono, I'm talking about weights, not Cardio. Your regular workout immedeately in the morning before going to work.

Gotcha.  I have found that my workouts suffered quite a bit with AM workouts....  But i think everybody has a different clock in regards to that.  I've been around guys who only lifted in the early AM and it worked for them.

I prefer lunchtime.  Energy is peaked mid-day and the gym is fairly empty.

if I use insulin, I'll work out at 6am before going to work.

if I don't I workout at 7pm.

both have their avantages, I am less energic at 6 am but there is nobody in the gym so that's kinda nice

Just out of curiosity, after a long night of sleep (and overnight fasting), wouldn't early morning insulin use cause you to potentially get hypoglycemic (Faint, dizzy, cold sweats etc.) since your normal blood-glucose levels after a night's sleep typically float around 70mg/dl, thereby even getting a lower blood-plasma glucose level by using insulin to flush glucose into the organs?

Just asking here..

What does that have to do with the Insulin?

If I train at 7pm and take slin,  if I take slin post workout 'ill have to take carbs at night, wich I don'T like to do even if it'S bro science I feel it makes a difference as far as fat gains goes.

also, I don't want to go while I am asleep and sometimes I go to bed at 10pm when I am really tired so if I just took insulin I can't go to bed.

so usin slin in the morning has always been better in every point for me, that way I can do protein only the rest of the day when I make no physical effort.

The great thing about being retired is that I don't have to worry about when to workout. I can and do hit the gym whenever I wish. However, my energy levels are the best from about 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. so that is when I usually go to the gym.

Plus, you have to finish up so you can catch the Early Bird special at Perkins.....

i always have very good energy early in the morning without any food.. just a mug of coffee with milk and i can do my best with weights!!..

also i think to work on an empty or nearly empty stomach helps to burn more of your body fats!!..

After work. I'm more rested and have about 3 meals in me to fuel the workout.

Honestly dude the stuff with the fuel is BS and just a mental thing. If you have eaten normally the day before your glycogen stores aren't empty after night, same goes for your Amino acid pool. You would have to be several days without any nutrition to run out of "fuel", your body is way smarter than you think (or the supplement guys tell you ;D)

I don't agree at all.  I get light-headed/dizzy when I try to lift heavy in the mornings before eating.

I've worked out at every time of day.  My favorite is a couple hours after I wake up, middle of the day or so.  Least favorite morning.  Most commonly I work out at about 8-10 pm.

I often go home after work with the intention of working out between 8 and 10 pm but always wind up on the couch for some odd unexplained reason
