Title: need help with a zipper
Post by: outby43 on February 26, 2011, 08:56:48 PM
Hopefully someone can help here.  I have a jacket and the metal insertion pin has fell off.  Can these be replaced?  I don't even know if that is what it's called.  Now where the metal piece was it is all frayed and I cannot zip my jacket because it will not fit into the actual zipper.   :-\

Go to a dry cleaners.  They often times have someone on staff or can refer you to someone who can fix it; like a seamstress/tailor.

Are you aware that you are statistically more likely to have an accident indoors in your home than in a car?

Did you know that more people hurt themselves falling off the toilet than walking outdoors?

And yes, (you've already figured where I'm going...  it's true that more men have major bloody catastrophic A&E incidences with trouser zippers than women have with cooking

I'd take it to a tailor and get a whole new zipper.  Should be under $20 I think.

I was quoted 35 at one place.  It is an American Eagle jacket so it's not really worth it.  Maybe I will get my grandma to do it.  She hems my sweatpants since I have short legs.  She has MS and arthritis so who knows what it will look like when she is done...lol.  Could be a scene from Happy Gilmore with Ben Stiller making them grandmas sew all day.  :D

lol as a guy who understands how hard it is to 1) find clothes that fit and 2) find clothes you feel comfortable in losing a piece of clothing that does both is quit disconcerning.

I would probably try the ghetto/home made way of clipping the end and taking a lighter to the end to harden the tip up(no comments)...its worked for me in the past for hoodies its somewhat of a temporary fix but its better than just throwing the jacket out.
