I think I would have to try it first before deciding.  I might be able to do it but I don't know.  I might even like it...or I might not be able to step over the parapet.

BB all jobs will have a cut off
Above a certain wind speed you dont work.
You will be suprised how quickly people get used to height.
I still rmember more than once in my old job new staff will tell me they want a transfer because of the height and the weather.
With in a few weeks its all good and they are walking out and working 10 stories high

true story

I wonder what they make.

I hear you on getting used to height.  I did some roofing last summer ...it was only a one story house but I got used to it very quickly.

I was on a business trip once staying on one of the higher floors of a hotel with a nice view (ie; no other buildings) so I left the balcony doors and drapes open.  I came out of the shower to find window washers hanging outside my door    :o

Last year November I was running a booth at a show on Harbour equipment
There is a hotel right next to the convention centre that we can see from the coffee shop
Every single morning people at the hotel (men and woman) would open their curtain and stand naked in their windows looking outside.
I am 100% sure that they new every one could see them.

Question: did they still have their "window washing tools" in their hands?  ???

I would have to work from the top down. I would crap my pants and leave a mess on every window below me if I did any other method.

I'm scared of heights too, so seriously couldn't even attempt it.

That's the way they did it.

They're basically rappeling.  I teach Los Angeles S.W.A.T. how to do basically the same thing but in full tactical gear and without the body harness.  We use non-locking carabiners so that we can move in and out of buildings quickly. Once one of my students jammed his carabiner against a window sill as he was stepping over and the rope popped out and he did not notice it.  He was the first guy on the rope and would have gone down 17 floors with nothing but his gloves to slow him down if I had not spotted it about a second before he swung his other leg out the window.  The way we do it requires total concentration.  I tell them that if they are thinking of being afraid they are not concentrating.

even though i used to skydive i couldn't do that job...

somehow 10,000 feet from a plane doesn't cause vertigo as does looking over the top of a tall building...

Perhaps, maybe...  Or more precisely I'd give it a try if I needed the money badly enough and got serious training and bigtime danger pay, which I'm sure they do.  And if I was under 30, which I'm not.  Or perhaps I'd work on an oil rig or join the army.

At present, I'm adoring the tree surgeons, up there with ropes wearing leather harnessess with two chainsaws, waaaaaaa....

I've always reckoned that people who like mountaineering and abseiling ought be highrise windowwashers, and that others who enjoy cutting up meat should be butchers; people who like fishing should be fishermen and people who like burying or cremating the dead ought be funeral directors?

Each to his own?
I wrote and did journalism, a bit of PR, a bit of modelling, lots of travelling, no harm done in my career, I was so safe...

ps:  I have a friend who is truly drop dead beautiful, with nice 36D fake boobs, 33 and half Japanese and she visited me this morning. I gave her a big hug, asked how her Mum in Tokyo is and she was so blase, nonplussed.  Mia works hard day in and day out, catering, doing dinner parties, so I guess she doesn't have time to worry.

& here's me watching the 24-hour rolling news thinking: how will they find sufficient personnel to get in there and fix that mess?  It's not a disaster, it's a god-awful catastrophe and would you want to do that job?

I couldn't.  I just could not.  Me, I'd run the other way screaming.

They've got 2 or 3,000 bodies to fetch and carry from those seashores today...

No way. Me and heights do not mix, lol.

I saw on the news about a year ago, some guy was washing the windows on a sky scraper in downtown LA and his harness or the mechanism got stuck. He was dangling from about 30 stories in the air and stuck for about 3 hours until help arrived. Can you imagine?

This reminds of of a girl I dated in high school.  She was talking a bunch of crap about her family being "great friends with a higher-up at GE"  I asked, "Who?  A window cleaner?"  And then the fight started...
