Haha, oh brother - try watching some Youtube vids of a prime Jonah Lomu or try taking on a guy like Andy Sheridan, who can bench 500 and squat 600.

Exactly. I've watched a ton of Rugby having lived in OZ and NZ for a bit and those guys don't hit each other anywhere near as hard as they do in the NFL:

I actually enjoy rugby, but the reason rugby is not an Olympic sport anymore is that in 1924, a group of American college football players, who had never played rugby before, got a team together and won the gold medal over all these other rugby "superpowers. " Since then, rugby has been largely dormant in the USA (we have a national team, but our best athletes play other sports).
PWNED.

Agreed - I'm English and I was in the school rugby team. It's a great sport.
The tackles are fairly tame in Rugby compared to American Football. You don't get 2x300lb men running at each other head on in full force in rugby.
Tackles are generally from the side or rear.
American football is definitely tougher.

That wouldn't happen now.
In Rugby the same guys play for the whole match. In American football you have about 1000 guys on the team who play for 30 seconds each.
Rugy players = fitter.

It doesn't have to happen now. It already happened and exposed the game. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy rugby. It is the game from which a superior game evolved.
Rugby players are not necessarily fitter, just much lighter (not carrying nearly as much muscle mass) and slower.
-
i dont have a bias either way but its like this.
BOTH sports go as hard as they are allowed in order to achieve the game's objectives.
in NFL u have protection and helmets and as a result u see really full on hits... the guys are out there for a fraction of the time of a game and hardly anyone touches the ball.
rugby tackles are a trade off between hurting and getting hurt..they stay on the field the whole time, and have the ball many times throughout the game.
IF NFL had one team that did all of the plays, then you could compare it to Rugby as theyd get more exposure to different aspects..but they dont.
still, without a doubt, the most athletic game on the planet is australian rules football..hands, feet, eyes, hits, tackles, duration, accuracy, team work, sprint, endurance.
olympic calibre athletes have been lost to AFL for decades now.
-
Yeah.....uh the best Australian Rules footballers are punters on NFL teams, at best.....and that is widely regarded as the biggest pussy position in football.....bit lower than kicker.... :-\

To give credit where it is due, the Chargers had a punter (Darren Bennett, I think) who had played Aussie Rules. On one of his first punts, he creamed the returner and knocked him the f out (probably more to do with not expecting to get hit by the punter). His career was shortened because he wasn't that great a punter (accuracy issues).

Chargers are my favorite team and Bennett is the reason I mentioned them playing punter. He did have a few good hits too.

The only other Aussie rules player famous in the USA was some retired player...an annoying cvnt named "Jacko" who did Energizer Battery commercials before they went with that rabbit...

anybody see barca school arsenal in their champions league match, last night? messi and co. were just fucking sublime 8)

But they only won after Van Persie was sent away.

The USA is the Bossman of the world. Every other nation is inferior and beneath us, seriously.

I remember that when ESPN was in its infancy (wasn't even 24/7 and didn't have college football or the NFL) they used to broadcast a lot of Aussie Rules Football. It seemed that every game involved either Essendon or Collingwood (or those two matched up)...kind of like the networks shoving the same 5 or 6 teams down your throat even if they haven't won anything in ages.
