There is a saying and it is very true - Christians will pray for you and muslims will prey on you.
I tend not to belittle those that have a real faith in Jesus, even though I myself am an atheist. What constitutes a real, genuine faith in Christ? They live it not just speak it. I know a few that do just that. So then, either join those with a genuine faith in God in hoping the best for the Japanese people either through prayer or in just well wishes that mean nothing more than you truly do wish them no harm but instead all the best because while not everyone can or will give money, food, etc. (and that is just the way it is) just about anyone can give more than a flying fuck about the loss of life and property. Or you can...
Continue to make yourself out to be childish, heartless bastard, which I don't for a minute believe you to be. ;D Don't get me wrong, I don't believe any more in prayer than you do, I'm just a touch more polite about it. Except in the case of islam, fuck that noise.

I don't see why we should send money to Japan. The Japanses are really wealthy, I mean right now on TV I saw one rich dude who had two yachts in his front garden.

I agree. They are for the most part a good people and can and will take care of themselves. I don't see why we should send aid to a lot of countries given that they generally don't give a fuck about us. Did anyone send help after Katrina?
I think one time India sent a couple of bags of rice as token gesture.

"crotch" ;D
Oh sorry, that wasn't on purpose, i didn't mean to make fun of our great natural "Crotch".

Actually the japanese economy is under great strain and they'll have to face some serious financial consequences later on... This whole tsunami debacle is definitely not helping.

The Japs caused the second biggest disaster in the US, next to 911. Wondering why the US would help them out in any way after 1941.
-
maybe because japanese scientists with israelian and russian ones are responsible for most of the technologic progresses occidentals made this last century?
maybe because japan as a military ally of the US is an important aero naval base for their forces they can project from there anywhere in eurasia to keep the chicoms and muslims quiet since the end of the second world war?
But i dont know...just some random thoughts ::)

In last couple of days, I have just kept watching CNN. I can't believe what is happening in my country, Japan...
Japan is known as the country of earthquake and Tsunami(its actually Japanese word, 津波), we always have relatively small earthquake almost every month and sometimes small tsunami. But I have never seen this huge powerful quake and tsunami in my life.
This earthquake happened on the north east ocean of Japan. My parents and one sister live in the city named Sendai which is actually one of the city got the biggest damage. I was so scared to watch the image on TV that the tsunami wiped whole city out in minutes. My family live in inland so they did not get tsunami damage. I got the belief email said they were ok the night of quake. After that email, I can't reach them. I am sure they are ok but I guess they can't use not only phone but also email because of the lack of electric power. I just got the news they got back power in Sendai so hopefully I can reach them soon. They still have many aftershock and now nuclear plant was exploded...Japan is facing the biggest challenge in nation's history.
I got a lot of phone call, email and many people asking me how is my family in the gym. I really appreciate it.
I don't know what to do for Japan...I figure this is the best way to help them from here. Please join me!

Sendai was hit very hard - hopefully, all will be ok with Hide's family (in terms of trying to get back to everyday life will be hard for the next few months). I know, we were in the Northridge earthquake (lives in Tarzana, but worked one mile from the epicenter), and it took us a while to get back to normal. The tsunami that hit the city was devastating.
Living in Los Angeles, in Woodland Hills now, you always need to be prepared. Time to check all the flashlights, make sure you have extra water and food, and much more.

Praying is literally the least you can do for anyone in times of crisis.
The power of prayer saved my life in a time of crisis, but believers are also called to action in order to help others. Now, I doubt the majority of us have the means to hop a plane to Tokyo to join the direct relief effort, but in addition to our continued prayers for the survivors we can contact the Red Cross, the human resources department of the company we work for or our local church to see if an earthquake fund has been established and find out if specific supplies are needed and/or if a cash donation would be helpful.
What else do you suggest archer?

- I recently opened a cafe in Japan, it's started out a bit shaky but people are slowly drifting in
- It's said that dogs can sense when an earthquake is about too hit, unfortunately for the Japanese they've ****** ate them all
- Earthquake hits Japan, this must be a real eye opener for them
- I see they're going to make a film the tsunami in Japan, they're going to call it 'Need for a Speedboat: Tokyo's Adrift''
- Now I know the Japanese are notorious for their crazy gameshows, but their version of Total Wipeout just takes the piss
- RIP my Japanese friend, So Kin Vet
- The problem for the Japanese was that they could see how wide the wave was, but not how high...
- If only the Earthquake happened on shrove tuesday, we could have called it Japan Quake Day
- i have just invented a time machine that allows me to travel into the year 3000. i ended up in japan.
not much has changed, but they live underwater
- Plans for a charity concert for Japan are taking place.
Katrina and the Waves and The Drifters have already been confirmed to appear.

Well at least Hide is still able to get to the gym and pump his muscles. Last thing he needs is his muscles to atrophy while his relatives are without power/freezing and probably starving.

This is getting crazy, despite the government assuring the citizens that they have everything under control one single reporter proved that they lie.
He went as close as a few kilometres to the actual nuclear reactor and took pictures of people panicing, there are no more buses, people
Are left in schools and sport halls – he said himself that he wasn’t able to get out but paid a man $ 150 to drive him out – he talked to mothers
Who very concerned and many started crying, the radiation levels are off the chart and he said himself he must have gotten a good blast
Himself he has hedaches and his eyes hurt, he threw away his close and only left his trousers on.
This is a perfect example what will happen if a major catastrophe hits a developed country, the government has possibly abandoned the
few thousand people that are left in the immediate danger area, don’t believe for a second this couldn’t happen in your country, this
is a reminder to us all to look at this very closely and learn from it.

"Don't rush me, just this once, I want to make this moment last"

Yeah, the #1 goal is the continuation of society. Nobody cares about a few thousand poor schleps, if it means a panic will shut down Tokyo.
Ten years from now, it'll be "confusion and conflicting info led us to fail to warn people" and nobody held accountable for letting people stay in the danger zone.
-
Heard You Germans also shut down 7 of your Nuclear plants today.... Seems this old Technology is going to be the end of mankind

Has any one actually heard why the back up generator failed? Was it because of water damage?
And has anyone heard what dose per second is in or around that area? ???

Place is going to be like Chernobyl, I just hope they are actually trusting that the dosimeters are actually reading correctly unlike Chernobyl and all those workers ended up dieing from radiation exposure.
-
Weird they don't just put the entire nuclear plant on a 50 foot concrete block, above ground. Something that may get shaken by an earthquake, but won't get hit with a fall of water cause it's 5 stories high and strong as fck.
maybe i'm ignorant and something needs to be deep under earth for nuke power to work.
-
It's pretty bad over there, I was watching CNN last night, 500k people homeless, the place is a mess.
I thought they had it under control but I guess these nuclear reactors are getting close to a meltdown.
Its very sad, Japan is a great country and the Japanese are great people, I respect them highly and hope the US and every other country helps them.

Some grandiose, sweeping assumptions you're making there, champ. Not surprising coming from you, though.

yet... unlike the rest of the world... Japan has no word in their dictionary for LOOTING ... very respectful people

Morning Joe - MSNBC - mentioned this morning that because they have been shut down since Friday one of the possibilities would be that they are cooling down themselves.

Keep in mind folks, the earthquake that hit Japan was SIX times stronger(the richter scale is logarithmic) than what the nuclear plants were built for. So the fact that they're standing at all is nothing short of unbelievable.

Not to distract from your fact, but I am impressed that they have yet to show a building that collapsed due to that nasty earthquake, only the structures in front of the wall of water. I am sure there is structural damage but none the less impressive!
I am particularly interested in what the actual millicuries per second are. I know the US ship said it was the equal amount of your monthly natural (roughly 42 mR) allowable but if that was taken in a few seconds, still damaging.
Found some info.. Levels of 400 millisieverts per hour had been recorded near the No. 4 reactor, the government said. Exposure to over 100 millisieverts a year is a level which can lead to cancer, according to the World Nuclear Association. (Notice the - per hour vs per year, huge difference!

Can one of you Getbig Chemist answer this question for me... if the Nuclear plant is close to ocean and they are pumping gallons and gallons of water to cool the Core down, won't the run off of water back to the ocean destroy the ocean ???
I mean i know its a big fuccking ocean, but for sure the Sushi cuisine will be done for

It is a closed water circuit..meaning as the water runs down the rods to cool the system, it runs and is coverted later to steam, not running back into the ocean at all.

I mean i know its a big fuccking ocean, but for sure the Sushi cuisine will be done for
there's no run off. it's a containment pool in which the water evaporates. if the nuclear coils are damaged and exposed to the water (as some think they are), then the condensation is taking radioactive materials with it into the atmosphere.
but as the water from the containment pool's evaporating, they keep adding more saltwater in. salt causes minor corrosion so they're hoping a protective oxidation layer will enclose the seepage, but it's a long and mostly desperate shot.
that's my understanding anyways.

clear 100 mile radius and fuck it. cant be more than 50 megatons. 25 yrs and they can move back on land.
get alex out of california. he's already a drama queen without radioactive exposure.

i see what your saying... thanks

here's a photo of a containment pool, and that's the water that they keep adding to:

and here's an image of a typical wall used, although i think i read somewhere the japs put in a 2" steel plate instead of 1/2"

from the article:
There is a worse problem though. Probably in an effort to keep the problem of nuclear waste hidden from the public, these plants feature huge pools of water up in the higher level of the containment building above the reactors, which hold and store the spent fuel rods from the reactor. These rods are still "hot" but besides the uranium fuel pellets, they also contain the highly radioactive and potentially biologically active decay products of the fission process--particularly radioactive Cesium 137, Iodine 131 and Strontium 90. (Some of GE's plants in the US feature this same design. The two GE Peach Bottom reactors near me, for example, each have two spent fuel tanks sitting above their reactors.)
As Robert Alvarez, a former nuclear energy adviser to President Bill Clinton, has written, if these waste containers, euphemistically called "ponds," were to be damaged in an explosion and lose their cooling and radiation-shielding water, they could burst into flame from the resulting burning of the highly flammable zirconium cladding of the fuel rods, blasting perhaps three to nine times as much of these materials into the air as was released by the Chernobyl reactor disaster. (And that's if just one reactor blows!) Each pool, Alvarez says, generally contains five to ten times as much nuclear material as the reactors themselves. Alvarez cites a 1997 Nuclear Regulatory Commission study that predicted that a waste pool fire could render a 188-square-mile area "uninhabitable" and do $59 billion worth of damage (but that was 13 years ago).

Poodle poop! Dow futures were -300 points down at one stage, closed -100 that's a 200 POINT GAIN
Whatever the hell in Japan, they are a tough race.

i hope it´s never rains in southern California
the meteoroligst say that the wind will blow in the next days from japan to the east (pacific), so maybe some radiology can hit the US west coast in a week or so... ?? Hopefully it´s raining a lot before over the pacific.....

The wind machine has been ramped up. Expect some moderate winds during this Super Moon cycle.

I saw 7 skunks last night wondering around in the snow. This Super Moon cycle is some serious shit. Anyone know if there's any rumblings at Yellowstone?
