Title: Japan example to be followed. I'm serious now.
Post by: Stark on March 12, 2011, 05:36:54 AM
Fuck me where they prepared, the tsunami warning went out faster than the waves could travel, were you see in the tsunami footage years back you see all the people swimming in it
in Japan all you see is emty cars and empty houses.

No panic, everybody knows what to do.

No looting

Everybody looks to be helping

I have to say I am impressed how Japan deals with this so far, I also think that the overall character of japanese will help them to bounce back fast.

A shotgun slug to the head might help a lot too.

It'S really amazing, after the quake yesterday there were 10.000s of people walking home because no trains, buses run. Calm, no panic.

If anything like that happened in the US, first thing people would do is run out, shoot the neighbor and steal his car.

Well I have to disagree with you here, plenty of 9/11 aftermath footage proves the opposite.

Just spoke to my brother who is a long time Tokyo resident. There were several more fairly major earthquakes that weren't reported in Niigata and Nagano prefectures - lots of damage, but yes, the system seems to be working as well as it can. He said when it hit, it felt so strong that people thought it must have hit Tokyo, not 400kms north.

The nuclear reactor is the biggest cause for concern now.

No country on Earth is better prepared than Japan to deal with earthquakes – or the tsunamis that result from them.

They are dealing with earthquake, tsunami and radiation.

How many countries are prepared for that type of disaster/accident ?

Japan will get everything fixed let's say... tomorrow.

That country survived to 2 nuclear bombs... think about it.

Make jokes about Japanese people....but they are slapping everybody in the face. see how organized they are?

That's because the majority of americans are obese, dumb weaklings who watch too much TV and are very much enslaved to the system. They still think that their country is numero uno in everything, so on top of that they suffer from delusions of grandeur.  :)

- It's said that dogs can sense when an earthquake is about too hit, unfortunately for the Japanese they've ****** ate them all

- I see they're going to make a film the tsunami in Japan, they're going to call it 'Need for a Speedboat: Tokyo's Adrift''

- Now I know the Japanese are notorious for their crazy gameshows, but their version of Total Wipeout just takes the piss

- RIP my Japanese friend, So Kin Vet

- The problem for the Japanese was that they could see how wide the wave was, but not how high...

- If only the Earthquake happened on shrove tuesday, we could have called it Japan Quake Day

- i have just invented a time machine that allows me to travel into the year 3000. i ended up in japan.
not much has changed, but they live underwater

- Plans for a charity concert for Japan are taking place.

Agreed with their level of work ethics and love towards their homeland distinguishes them from other counterparts. It took the Japanese people roughly 20 years to overcome the adversity of WW2 but currently they rule the 70 percent of the worlds economy! My prayers are for them !Amen :)

In spite of the widespread belief that Japan is ethnically homogeneous, it is probably more accurate to describe it as a multiethnic society.[31]

Yes, unlike great and free Westerners that line up in droves in wallmart or in the healthy KFC or MaC.

What shall we buy today that we dont need, with the money we dont have, to show it to people we dont know or like?

Anyone claiming Asian are like ants is so far off the reality its not even funny.

Just the blatant write off of millions of people under the name ants or robots shows the ignorance, egotistic attitude and close mindedness.

 Most Asians aren't like ants.

 Just Japs and Koreans.

I lived in both countries for long periods of time. I know their culture first hand.

The problem with the japanese culture is the authoritarianism and homogeneity which kills creativity and innovation imo...

NN

Have you ever spent any considerable amount of time here??experiencing the people, their culture, customs all those small every day things that give you a better insight into their mind/culture?

every place/culture has their positive and negative sides..why choosing to point the finger at only what you perceive as the negative?

People thinking Japanese act like robots or even worse are emotional robots on the inside have no clue what they are talking about and hqve never been to Japan.

Japanese are one of the warmest and most individual people there are. Thinking they are not because they follow certain societal rules is like thinking we in the West are all alike for buying the same crap everyone does and are listening to lady gaga.

People in the West and especially the US have a notion that they are the only country that has individual freedoms and all the rest are followers of the rulers. This applies as much to US as to any country.
In fact it is the Western nations that have los but all of their so called freedoms and are trapped in a media-like life of so called perfection and freedom.

The only freedom the West exercises te most is the 'freedom' to buy things they dont need. Its not question if you will buy something but WHAT you will buy.

This core of Capitalism has deprived people of their power to develop as true individuals and has forced them to measure themselves against what other have.

Please go to Japan and try to understand its nature, read, talkwith Japanese people.

i have been living in Japan for many years,my wife is japanese so i think i have a little experience about this place.. ;)

look, i did not mean to sound like an ass; at this time emotions are high right now and when you read comments here of morons that are happy that such tragedy happened to Japanese people just because of their ignorance about them gets to you.

i am sorry but i think it's unfair to judge people only by what the media decide to portray or by a few youtube videos that show some stupid tv shows..

ppl think that japanese act like ants or robots which is an oversimplification based on bias,ignorance,closed-mindedness and not facts..
i have my pet peeves with japan but i think i can speak out of experience, there are things that dont work well and i dont like (just like any other country, including my own) but overall this is a very good place to live.

things that seem strange to westerners actually hold a logic behind them; things that one would understand a bit better if one were willing to open up a little and consider other ways.

I understand that for you (and for many others) it's difficult to see through them;Japanese themselves like to keep things a little unspoken,a little unclear even between each other..but that's why one cannot just go around and judge and generalize what one doesnt understand

i appreciate your honesty and BustinAss has said some really interesting stuff, overall this is a good thread

In America, we value individuality, In Japan, they value group norms

you would never see a local Japanese sitting on a roof blaming the president for causing the sunami

since they value group norms, no looting or vandalism

what are your group norms!

Well, surely the US has to be more interesting with its much older and richer culture, traditions and history...

Yes, how can a culture be interesting when they had more order, ways of life, honour and endless traditions at the time America was just getting discovered.

Just as all Japanese people look and feel the same to white people, its exactly the same the other way around. And its true.

Look at the lack of diversity, freedom of opinion and general sheep like way of life in the US.

The Japanese put more effort, skill, honour and love into making and serving thee then most other so called civilised countries put into their whole week.

With order comes peace, then tradition and true deep culture and individual development.

In short, the Japanese have the best and healthiest food in the world, by far the best overal and per person economical and healtcare development, are respected all over the world and still hold very strong to their old ways that have made them what they are.

Unlike US and EU who think changing their culture to all new comers will make them tolerant and open. Thats not tolerance, thats not caring and ignorance of different cultures and self honour.

well said...

In America, we allow all cultures to come here and start a new life.  We allow them to sue us because their children cant speak English in school, so special English as a second language teachers are hired. We allow them to totally change a local environment, like Miami Florida, Phoenix Arizona, or Detroit.

In Japan, you must become one with their culture because they make no apologies for it.  You want to go to school in Japan, you better speak their language.
Go downtown, better know where you are going, dining out, same thing.

What is American now, its an idea. You don't see any Amercan kids committing suicide over not getting into the right college, American kids don't concern themselves with embarrassing their families, most people in our country believe they are entitled to things most people have to work for.

The word most Americans should fear, freedom!

Wrong. Certain "groups" follow group norms-- IE Katrina. The rest of us who value individuality, never do it at the expense of America. See, the groups that follow group norms in the USA hate the USA-- as do the politicians that support group norms. The difference bw the US and Japan is that the Japanese are taught to be patriotic and make sacrafices for the greater good of the nation. In the US certain groups are taught that stealing from their fellow citizens is justified becase they are black. Oops, I revealed one of the groups that follows group norms.
