Title: How many Californians on this board do this?
Post by: Fallsview on March 13, 2011, 09:19:08 PM
Grunion Runs?  It seems like these are very good protein sources and would be an ideal snack for grazing on. It seems like it would be the sensible thing for a So-Cal bodybuilder to do, if he was out of work and money or just wanted to have some fun on a warm crisp night.

They were very popular in the 1970's, I remember Jack Tripper used to go them.  But I would rather eat six of those fish then eat a protein bar.

In Northern Cali there's lots of good shit to eat in the wild.

Chanterelle mushrooms. Tons of greens. Insects. Lots of people eat the big slugs.

That's the way to live. Eat from the forest like a wild gorilla. That's how man is supposed to co-exist with the Earth.

Well, it's a fish similar to the what is in the the Niagara Gorge-smelt.  Back in the old days the minor league baseball team would run a very successful marketing ploy called "smelt night".  If you payed an extra two dollars you could  partake in the all the smelt one could eat after the seventh inning stretch.  They are small fish but like Leroy Robinson said (inventor of smelt night) "You put alot of breadin' and grease on dem, you have a pretty good meal".
