Title: Describe how bodybuilding forum/internet negativity has affected your life...
Post by: Alex23 on March 14, 2011, 12:53:44 PM
Meeting with a rather soft spoken but very large someone this past Friday made me realize (once again) how disruptive the negativity on the internet can be...

Through the years I've posted on various forums; cars, tech, conspiracy theories, planes even stormfront (curiosity) etc...

Never any of them got any close to bodybuilding forums when it comes to drama & hatred... my theory is bb attracts insecurity, display of attention, jealousy; after-all, the state in which ones body is,  very personal; often the willingness to change what he/she doesn't like is strictly based on insecurity, loaded with emotions...

Discuss...

Lucky man.

SS ironically cornered it best when he said, "that time of the month"... posters get used to a certain level of drama, when it cools down, they simply turn against each others to spur it back to what they're used to... much like the electrified monkey cage experiment, jolt them up a couple of times, they eventually get used to it, they also at that same time start beating on the smaller monkeys at about the same time the jolt usually occurs even though electricity is  off....

Getbig is nothin but young kids and 40/50 yr old adolescents....the bulk of the population are average Joes that use drugs and watch pornography.  How this collection of misfits can truly impact someone's "real life" is beyond me.

Do what I do if things get stupid and out of hand....logoff.

Internet negativity only "affects" people who take the internet way too seriously.

Internet negativity only "affects" people who take the internet way too seriously.

So you're saying seriousness is in the eye of the poster?

Not sure it's always true...

Not sure it's always true...

I mean, if you are going to reply to some obsessed poster, and then go into a cyberfight against him a couple of times, you should expect "problems" IRL. And if you do something like that, you are taking the internet too seriously IMO.

This is what most people should do
Do what I do if things get stupid and out of hand....logoff.

Of course sometimes you will have to reply, i.e. Steve Namat must reply some stupid posts in his "personal training thread" because he can get some clients, and he cannot afford to let people talking shit about him because he does not have certifications or something. But in most cases you can do what MOS said.

Ditto.  I post on car forums, education forums, tech forums, real estate forums, investing forums, and only on bodybuilding forums do you see people act out the way they do here.  The reason is clear:  lots of insecure men/boys are drawn to this sport.  :(

at least you acknowledge it. you got owned and like a crybaby spread personal info around and in the end dave's girl was getting calls so he left. you then filled the vacuum left by the departure of a getbigger you will never have 10% the kudos of with shit, unfunny threads. when that didn't work you set up your own forum that you also filled with shit, unfunny threads that nobody read so you came back here and now post shit, unfunny threads.

unfortunately, he did not show up and broke his promise. But I forgive him, I'm sure he has his reasons.

He seems like a knowledgeable guy, he could if wanted to help others instead of constantly attacking others he feels threaten by; ironically similar to the way "Dave" acted, Although big Dave had the balls to post pictures which gained him some respect.

I have to agree with you.  I have to laugh about the education forums...gotta love the gripe in LA right now about teachers and their spouses opting out of insurance-who cares?  I do it, it's negotiated into our contracts.  Just like certain agencies have riders that let the covered people get breast augmentation and hair transplants-I think the taxpayers should learn just what goes into education and what the government puts on teachers but it wouldn't help since most people are filled with schadenfreude!!!

In my "real life" I don't know many, if any, negative, trash talking people. Sometimes, it is interesting to see how the otherside disfunctions. Other times, these ridiculous posts are just plain annoying. When I get to feeling this way, I spend my time on other more positive endeavors.

I hope most of the crap posters here and elsewhere are different in their offline lives....well, I hope they have different offline lives or some life besides what they display in these forums. Otherwise, they are really sad, negative and depressing.

Yup.

When I first started posting here ten years ago I was a guy in his thirties and this place was a LOT different.

Over time what's happened is the gimmicks aren't even creative or funny anymore...they know they are gimmicks so they just post dumb shit...with the objective being to waste bandwidth,  I guess.

And now as a guy in his forties instead of his thirties it just seems so boring and stupid to me. No one ever has anything good to say...and if You own somebody fair and square they "dig" for personal info because they are sore loser little bitches.

dear alex23,

YOU are singlehandedly responsible for the demise of this forum. this thread is a perfect example of your bi polar, attention seeking bullshit. you ruin it with your drama, with your 'outings' with your 'gimmicks'.

what is it in your life that sucks so badly you need a internet forum for attention? you've quit this place countless times, always to return- and the best part is nobody even missed you. your the biggest crybaby i have ever seen, but yet your supposed to be a grown man- even more proof of your stunted personality, like we needed it.

i honestly think you have a personality disorder of some nature, and obviously so do those you've met thru here- thats why they dont hang around with you any longer.

look around you alex- your 'real' life- how many good friendships do you have- id fucking bet not a whole lot. you marrried the sister of a guy you met online, your friends are all online friends and most of those you met online want nothing to do with you anymore for whatever reason.

you are the problem, fatboy. get some help. take some meds. do something for fucks sake. just quit trying so hard to fit in. you never will. your just a fucking weirdo.

lol

dear alex23,

YOU are singlehandedly responsible for the demise of this forum. this thread is a perfect example of your bi polar, attention seeking bullshit. you ruin it with your drama, with your 'outings' with your 'gimmicks'.

what is it in your life that sucks so badly you need a internet forum for attention? you've quit this place countless times, always to return- and the best part is nobody even missed you. your the biggest crybaby i have ever seen, but yet your supposed to be a grown man- even more proof of your stunted personality, like we needed it.

look around you alex- your 'real' life- how many good friendships do you have- id fucking bet not a whole lot. you marrried the sister of a guy you met online, your friends are all online friends and most of those you met online want nothing to do with you anymore for whatever reason.

Internet totally fucked me up big time. Worst thing I ever did was reading that doggcrapp DC training ... believing bullshit about how eating 700000 calories is needed to grow...past few years getting fat  trying to"get huge" permabulking when I could of been tapping fine hoes rocking "team lean face" and still probably had the same if not more of the amount of muscle I have today.

you don't know anybody that likes to bust balls?

getbig is just more blunt

in real life people say shit with a smile on their face when they try to get under your skin, or under the disguise of sarcasm

they say "i'm just kidding bro" as if they weren't trying to offend you ::)

E

Maybe I am naive to believe in this theory, but I give folks a reputation to live up to and they seem to do that most of the time. When someone fails, I ignore them until they are no longer in my life. I undoubtedly know people who bust balls, but they don't bust mine and that's what counts to me. I believe you get back what you send out into this world. There are people who consistently send out bad vibes. I don't spend time on those people. Life is too short for that.

Discuss...

This is totally true. I have frequented many political forums, tattoo forums, regional forums, punk rock forums, marijuana and drug forums, sex and porn forums. But bodybuilding ones are definitely the most dramatic and crazy.

It doesn't bother me though. Just gotta have a thick skin and ignore it. If it crosses over into real life then the shit will go down. But nothing anyone types here can phase me.

Getbig is pretty funny compared to it. At least it isn't a fucking lot of Ass Kissing like other BBing sites.

True politics gets pretty intense. Same with religion.

Politics and religion are the two worst ones probably. Probably worse than BB. Most of the posters on those forum are just in a constant rage.

Sorry for butting in on your personal feud with Alex. I was reading what you wrote with interest to discern if there was any truth to what you were conveying about Alex, based on various posts I've read here and elsewhere that involved Alex, (not that I am an expert on human behavior, especially yours or Alex's). Eventually you lost me with you name calling such as, "fatboy", "fucking weirdo"  and the non professional suggestion Alex take/needs meds. Ultimately, the post degraded into the very negativity to which Alex refers. The killer is your signature line, "LOL" like some all this is some maniacal joke to you. You are definitely not a nice person, I gather.

Matt, you can be so dense. Eighteen year old folks are too old for these jerks. They want kids/children who they believe they can manipulate because they are so insecure that they can't have a successful relationship with another adult. Most eighteen year old escorts are way too adult and sophisticated for these clowns.

I agree. I do think it's a very, very BITCH MOVE when people dig for personal info on others and cross the line like that.

People stalking each other in real life and bringing it into real life. That's really not cool at all. Some people here take this shit too seriously and cross it over into real life.

If anyone tries that on me I will seriously go fucking mid evil on them. Not even joking at all. If you have a problem with someone, settle it in PM's like responsible adults.

That's how people are nowadys though. When they get punked, they don't concede with dignity. Instead they try to take a low blow after they go down.

The internet is its own entity. No one person can honestly believe that they hold the key to controlling it. The Devil doesn't spread negativity. And he doesn't tell people to be positive or negative. We all have free will mother fuckers. Being negative or being positive is simply an emotion. Would you really have the balls to tell a person to be positive or happy after they just watched their love one be killed? Everyone/anyone that is at their keyboard at any given time is going through a different emotion then the next guy. Who the fuck wants to live in a world where someone is telling you to always be positive. That is silly talk. And its also someone trying to enforce MINDCONTROL. Mindcontrol without trying is retarded. Just saying :-\

Alex23: i know an IFBB pro. He decided to stop by the forums here for a little while. He said Getbig was so negative and depressing that he decided to never come back. He could not believe how negative the people here were.

Thank you for your post Royalty.

Honestly, I'm not surprised... exposing delusion somewhat became a key-learning on getbig... problem is it went way too far and tipped the scale to the point of preventing people from enjoying something that isn't as tainted as they want us to believe.

Good examples of extra shifters are Shane Carnithan and Jason Stern. all forum bullshit aside, I like both of these guys, personally Jason & I get along pretty well  and if he was just a little closer, would be a guy I would frequent monthly or so. Shane who I only met once has a good moral base but  got sucked in the bb "lifestyle" and is very bitter for some reasons. Early 30s and still trying to find a 'career path'. I feel that he misses it but convinces himself otherwise by hating instead

So How did they channelize their frustration and why did I step aside? they started a forum to 'expose' the industry; some say not a bad call, but if you're gonna call ppl out on a daily basis, be prepared for collateral damages. The worse collateral of all is my almost blood brother flexingtonsteele, got sucked in the negativity some extrapolated on his own or thru their channels. the result is constant negativity beyond the point of reality. A negativity that prevents you from growing and enjoying a higher state (either mental or physical)

I personally stepped aside at a very specific point; I remember the exact moment; it was at the Arnold 2008..  I was talking to Jason Pegg, telling him that I really wanted to catch the finals, annecdoting the 2006 olympia and how much glen & I enjoyed it... then I hear Stern.. telling me "hey go scalp some tickets from Troy Alves" and other getbig based memes.... telling me how fucking "gay" it was to go watch the final... telling myself, what I should say but not sound like a racist... all I could come up with was "hey jew stomp, keep your negativity for the buffet.. see ya in a couple of hours.." then I just lost it.. took me lots of restrain to not break his jew bridge.... we took off but were too late.. sold out.. 2400 miles for an afternoon at the "expo"...

Sorry flexingtonsteele if I dragged you into this shit.. needed to close a chapter to positivity growth and onstage results coming soon.

Good post. Interesting thing about people who love to use the words "Be positive". Oprah who is filthy rich loves to use those words. However, she is morbidly obese and has been most of her life. Many believe she is living in the closet which helps aid in her eating habits. She has no kids and she was once known for touching anything and it turning to gold. But now that her OWN network is failing, people have seen through her "BE POSITIVE" model. Sure it got her filthy rich. But in the end, its turning out that it was just an illusion. Oprah's life is going to be studied in psychology classes for decades if we all live past 2012 ;)

In the end, a person can't tell someone to be positive or negative. They have to show them. Again these are emotions. Just like love and hate. You can't tell someone to love someone or hate someone. You have to show them. Show me how to love or show me how to hate and I will show you heaven and hell.

LOL!!!

Being positive is a state of mind; not an emotion. I challenge you to first spend an entire day and not say one single negative comments, by the end of the day, you will feel a sense of serenity and peace; your predisposition to negativity will have already started fading...

On day two, the inner negativity must go; discipline yourself to entertain positive thoughts; when unnecessary negativity lurks, shut it down mentally.

By day 3, you will a better man with the desire to help others.

On the second day,

You have to show them. Show me how to love or show me how to hate and I will show you heaven and hell.

Not if the negativeness is a put on or used because people would like to be included into a "group" and have some belonging?

I would love to see some negative posters take the Satisfaction with Life Scale.  Many here have the proverbial  ax to grind using people as their whetstone.  Its sad to see how this negativeness takes up so much time and space into one's lives. Trying to "take down" someone on a bodybuilding board  enshrouds them.  I would say 90% of people on here know how to be positive and to love, unless they were raised by wolves.  The other 10% could be suffering a desease of some sort.  If I broke down the whole "internet forum board" story we'd be here forever but there are reasons why people act the way they do here, the big one is because they are to afraid to act this way in real life and have shortcomings they deny are in existence.

SO........

Lol

You're telling people to be stoic of all emotions. And to only have one emotion. To attempt to be positive all the time means a person has to suppress all other emotions. Ignoring or suppressing emotions in the mind tend to show themselves in other areas. And that's what the Oprah reference was about.

Far from it; people often think being positive means convincing themselves there are no weed in their backyards (yea back to that analogy); it's not.. it's about pulling these fuckers out asap and move to better things and not focus on them all day!!!!!!!!!

Being positive is great but it's starting to get a little overdone.

Positive, positive, positive......... too much of that word floating around here. When you overuse a word, the word slowly loses it's power.

And so does the "Hit it" threads and all the negative posters that have nothing good to say.  Look at how many people jumped on the Almighty GH15-Lee Priest is scum bandwagon.  Why do you think they do this?  If they knew GH15 wore converse All Stars I'm sure they'd go out and buy a pair...what kind of behavior is this called anyways???  It's like when your sitting next to a car at a red light and you have that natural instinct to hit the gas hard in order to beat the guy next to you...refresh my mind on whats that called...forgive me but its late here and I have to do "something" in the AM.

"MOOT" Christopher Poole from 4chan deals with this topic as to why all emotions/states of minds/reality tunnels etc etc are needed to have a true sense of humanity. Many people have stated that if heaven is all roses and ass kissing, I don't want to be there. If everyone was postive, there would be no negative. And if that was the case, how could we possibly define what was positive or "good".

Now that Ron told you to be positive, you're being passive aggressive in your delivery of said positiveness.

I would totally chop that bitches head off for ten thousand dollars and a gaurantee that i'll walk away clean.

But, instead of hating on her i'll just learn a lesson from her though I guess. Try to hustle some fools and get rich like she did. Just gotta think of the right scheme...

She is basically done. Her OWN network supposedly is losing tons of money. Everything she has touched in the past has turned to gold. Not anymore. I think her shipped has sailed. I look for her to come out of the closet very soon and try to re-establish herself in a pathetic attempt to stay relevant.

As much as I dislike OPRAH what has bodybuilding done for people?  Make some schmoes happy for a 1/2 hour or hour depending on rates?  Put fourth a "gimmick" the word many throw around here, leading naive teenagers to believe they can achieve that body without using performance enhancing drugs?  With the latter, furthering there downspiral into the use of those drugs in order to fill a gap in their poor self-esteem?  Whether you believe it or not steroids are the spackle in the crack of someones armour.  Most use because they believe a better body will get them women or make them tough which it might, but there thinking/beliefs are still flawed and they depend on these drugs in most cases. Sad!!

Yup.....it was just a matter of time before her massive ego took her down...your own network? ? Seriously .

Classic case of someones overinflated self worth undoing them.

Nothing lasts forever.....thank God.

And BFRS I feel you....gotta come up with the next thing dude.....people WANT someone to lead them by the nose, rub their balls a little and tell them what to do.

Most people get into Religion, Politics or Hollywood to control people. Oprah went into Hollywood to do this.

I'll probably go the Religion path, just start up a religious cult and have like 30 wives who sex me up constantly, and 300 zombie like followers who give me all their cash. Seriously, i've always wanted to do that.

You should do it....it wouldn't even be that hard I bet.

It goes into a phenomenon that followers are now worshipping the leader instead of the God.  You see this alot with faith healers.  If you can motivate people and speak well with vigor (like Hitler) then you very well might have a chance.  Choose people who are low with self esteem, visit libraries around the holiday's to find the best choices, buy a farmhouse in a remote area and presto...your the next Jim Jones!!!!

REALLY DON'T DO THIS...BE POSITIVE INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You forgot the parts about how you were texting danielson the entire day at the expo behind everyones backs telling him how big of assholes jason and shane were while you were smiling to their faces and offering to buy them lunch while wearing your nonsensical "tapouf" tshirt that you gave to everyone.

Thank you unskinny, I did forget about that fabricated part. Too bad Danielson didn't make it....we never met but spoke several times, seemed like a vary nice person. Jason & I did make some shirts, was kinda funny at the time.. I still have my "Alex23" shirt he made with the bignation logo.... decent concept, too bad the negativity eventually caught up.

It never surprises me how you can lie on here. We all know you were acting like Jason and Shane were your best friend following them around like a lost puppy all Arnold Classic weekend. While you were texting/pm'ing danielson about how big of assholes they were.

Just man up to it and stop lying. Why do you think that no one else from that weekend still talks to you to this day? Oh yea and also lost every ounce of respect for you that they once had.

LOL, have you ever been to north carolina, ppl are just dumb/slow, the guys have no swag or style, not saying it matters at all, but the girls love it, plus if you bag chicks up here in the north you will have no problem getting laid multiple times a day in the south first the girls arent as stuck up ,prissy or insecure, they are friendlier and there is a surplus of good looking ones down derrree

yes I have been to NC and I've lived in the nj metro area and NYC for 7 years. I don't know about the whole northeast girls being stuck up or anything perhaps the ladies in the northeast of tired of bullshit lines and epic stupidity ;D

the thing is...Im from/grew up in Ithaca NY so I have no southen accent and can pull the 'your not from round here' thing off perfect

plus when Im not blazed and you can see my eyes Im a bit more attractive but im no stud...when I was 225 with abs I got all kinds of girls :)

Spike, I'm starting to like you alot (No homo)  I'm sure you have a taste for Genesee Cream Ale and Utica Club beer-nothing but the very best.  North Carolina men do not have swager or anything else.  I spend alot of time in the OBX and the men there are just plain pathetic (sort of like no one and mortalcoil)  In fact, one of the locals has a blood gang tattoo on his arm.  When I questioned him about it, he said he was the only white member, lol.  He wouldn't get away with that in Watts, he'd be dead in a day, sporting that crap.  The positive/pathetic side of NC is that woman down there are in heaven if their men have a trailer and there really thrilled if it's a double wide.  Workers are lazy and listen to the fish/surf forcast.  If both are good they drop their tools and leave.  No one works OT on Satrudays and they spend their time smoking weed.

TRYING TO BE POSITIVE BUT SAYING THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
