He's had strokes before and struggled with his weight. So, I can't say I'm totally surprised.

He served in the Marines for 3 years while he was in Desert Storm. I bet that it had something to do with those anthrax pills and other shit they were shooting us up with.... :P

On December 19, 2007, he suffered a stroke,[10] according to a coordinator for his recently formed gospel choir, Innate Praise.[10] Initial media reports suggested he had been admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in Pomona, California after suffering a heart attack. However Erica Beckwith told MTV News that Nate Dogg had been released on December 26 after being treated for a stroke and had been admitted to a medical-rehab facility to assist him in his recovery. In January 2008, it was officially reported that the stroke had rendered the left side of his body paralyzed. Doctors believed there would be a full recovery, and his voice was not affected. In September 2008, Nate suffered a second stroke.[11] Warren G later confirmed that since the second stroke, Dogg was undergoing physical therapy in an attempt to return to some normality, but it was unclear whether Dogg would be able to resume his singing career.[12]
Nate Dogg died on March 15, 2011 in Long Beach, California.[13][14][15][16]

Dogg Pound group member Kurupt reminisced over Nate Dogg earlier this morning.
"S/o [shout out] ta my bigg bro. Nate mothafuccin dogg," Kurupt tweeted. "There's only 1 ambassador of tha west coast. Ya hea me. I luv u cuzz."
Nate Dogg worked with rapper 50 Cent on his massive hit single "21 Questions," which helped 50 Cent's debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin sell over 8 million copies, making it the fourth best-selling Hip-Hop album of all time.
"I just landed nate dog is dead damn. GOD BLESS HIM R.I.P he meant a lot to west coast hiphop. I've always been a fan of it," 50 Cent tweeted. "I wrote the chorus to 21 questions I needed nate to sing it for me. He had a way of making everything feel hard."
Former G-Unit member and West Coast vet Game worked with Nate Dogg on tracks like "Ol English" from The Doctors Advocate and "Where I'm From" from the album The Documentary.
The Game shed tears over Nate Dogg's passing.
"R.I.P. Nate Dogg. Why does it take Death to remind us about the importance of life ???" Game tweeted this morning. "I lost a friend. Been here before. Tears. Memories. One day someone will lose "US" as well. LIVING until that day comes is our only option."
Jermaine Dupri, who recorded the track "Ballin' Outta Control" with Nate Dogg also had some words for his former collaborator.
"RIP Nate dogg, this is f**king terrible!! my prayers go out to the Pound and his family," Jermaine Dupri stated.
Actor Bow Wow, who was produced by Jermaine Dupri, was discovered by Snoop Dogg in 1993.
"I had the pleasure to be around him in my younger days when i was running with Snoop & The Dogg Pound in 93 #WestcoastLegend," Bow Wow stated.
Xzibit worked with Nate Dogg on tracks like "Multiply," and the club classic, "B**ch Please" featuring Snoop Dogg.
"We lost a solider, a father, a legend, a homie. My condolences go out to Ms. Ruth and the entire family. Celebrate #NateDogg," Xzibit tweeted.
Nate Dogg also helped power Ludacris' 2001 album Word of Mouf to platinum status, behind the hit single "Area Codes."
"There is a certain void in hip hop's heart that can never be filled," Ludacris tweeted. "Glad we got to make history together."

The dude had a real nice flow as a sidekick on a track. One of the pioneers of that laid back, West Coast gangster sound. 8)
R.I.P., Nate. 41 is too young.

There's a doc out there somewhere about HipHop/Rap being completely anti-spiritual. The opposite of what "music" is supposed to be.

R.I.P.
Off to tha big Dogg pound in the sky. I'm not gonna claim the guy was up there with legends like MJ, James Brown or Stevie Ray Vaughan, but the guy was involved in some classic tunes.

Eminem Hails "Irreplaceable" Nate Dogg
Today 1:14 PM PDT
Eminem is paying his full respects to a master of hip-hop.
In the wake of Nate Dogg's untimely death today, the real Slim Shady praised the late MC for a career that influenced a generation of artists.
Here's what he had to say:
"Nate's voice in music will never be replaced. He helped create the blueprint for West Coast hip-hop, and I was one of the lucky people who had the privilege to work with him and the honor to have him as a friend
"Nate will be sorely missed. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and loved ones."
The 41-year-old Dogg, born Nathaniel Hale, found fame in the '90s as a featured performer on Dr. Dre's The Chronic before going on to success with the hit "Regulate" with pal Warren G. He also collaborated with Tupac Shakur, his similarly monikered cousin Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, The Game and 50 Cent and worked with Eminem on Xzibit's 2003 song, "My Name."
The Game released his own eulogizing statement: "We lost a great peer in the business. I will always remember the time I spent in the studio with him. He was very encouraging and professional. I will miss his voice, presence and advise. He's a part of hip-hop's rich history. My heart and condolensces goes out to his family."
As tributes come in from across the hip-hop community, Nate Dogg's close friend and manager, Rod McGrew, tells E! News he and Nate's family "really appreciate the outpouring of support from the fans." He also says the family was with the Prodigal Son when he passed and that this is a very "tough" time for them all.
"It was sudden and we were quite surprised," adds McGrew.
McGrew notes that while there is no official report yet on the cause of death yet—that will probably come any day—they believe Nate died of natural causes as a result of two strokes he suffered in 2007 and 2008.
According to the manager, the rapper's last stroke was a "deep stroke" that left him partially paralyzed though he fully recovered his cognitive abilities. McGrew said doctors believed the strokes could have been triggered by high blood pressure.
No funeral or memorial plans have been made yet, but could be announced as soon as tomorrow.

2 years at PMC. Toured in various forms for 8 years or so and taught for over 20 years. I still teach on the side, but I don't really have much time for that these days.
Yes, in musician circles I frequent Nate Dogg is virtually unknown.

and yet no thread will be made when you die...
But those that really knew and loved him would lament his passing, as would the family and friends of any of us here should we die. In reality, a "thread" as you put it, is nothing. How so? Most threads such as this one are started by and primarily composed of people that are neither family nor friend of the deceased. They may well admire them and they might even think they "know" them (primarily via association through a love of their music, art, acting, etc.) but the truth is they really don't. Nothing wrong with that, it's just the truth.
Speaking of which, I know absolutely nothing of this person Nate Dogg, with the exception that he was a rapper. Fuck that noise. Rap is an embarrassment to anyone with an IQ above 30. It is unfortunate that he died and especially so at such an early age, but I am certain that his family is all the more comforted by the mere presence of this...
Thread. ::)
Don't go there.
