Power rack, plates, 2 bars, db 10-120, 0-90degree bench, chains, bands, GH raise and you're pretty much set. Machines take up too much room and are pretty much worthless. (not all but most)

Good setup, and I would include a double pulley for back, delt & arm work, and a stability ball for core work. Too bad my gym has no chains & bands, would love to try them.

Bars are York and Texas Power Bar.

Plates are York and Iron Grip(although I like Ivankos too.), both in kilos and lbs, about 1000lbs worth. Bought second hand.

Bench is York's 5 position commerial one bought on close out for $350.

Squat rack and bench safety rack are Ironmind, mostly because of space right now, but I like the Powertec power rack on the mid-priced end, and the Westside, Legend Fitness, or Elitefts racks on the higher end.

Standard plates and bars are a hodgepodge of various things bought second hand, about another #500-700 pounds worth. If I were to buy a full set of dumbbells I'd go full pairs to #120lbs, then buy a set of extra long dumbbell bars and some loose standard plates for if/when you needed to go heavier.

As far as machines go, I'd buy a plate loaded lat pully system, I think Powertec still offers one on their power rack.

It does cost alot but who says you have to buy new, you can get plain hex DB's or even piece the set together. Play it Again sports is good for that. I got my Kettle bells from play it again. Craigs list usually has some good deals as well.

Looking at Ironmaster bench

http://www.ironmaster.com/store/Super-Bench-pr-3.html

Or Powertec

http://www.powertecfitness.com/product.php?id=workbench-utility-bench

Both seem pretty good and I like the face I can add things to each bench, curl, leg extension, dip bar etc...

Thoughts?

I would choose equipment for commercial use. You pay more, but on the long run it's worth the investment, esp when you train heavy for >3 times a week. In case of benches I would choose one with a -30 - 90 degree range. It's hard to find a bench with these specs since most flexible benches don't have a decline option or are far from "professional". I prefer equipment that's "ready to go", no stuff what I need to "reconstruct" before use.
This combined with a solid powerrack, a olympic barbell and a fixed(!) range of dumbbells and you have a good basic setup.

From the picture it looks good for non-commercial equipment. Have you tried it before you decided to buy it? The horizontal safety bar looks short on this picture. If this is the case you need to do your squats very close to the rack when you go really heavy without a spotter behind you. I presume that bench isn't attached to the rack?
Anyway, I would still prefer a decent power rack over this.

how much?

$550 shipped.

Bench isn't attached which is nice. Although petty, I like the built in pull up.

Next purchase will be a lat rack that attached. Leaves a very small footprint otherwise I would have opted for a full cage.

Thats not a bad price at all...

Silly question though, does that price include bar and some weights?

Body Solid.  You'll have a much wider selection of equipment and its usually going to be at a lower price.

Just go and buy a cheap weight bench, barbell, dumbells, and lots of plates.

 That's all you need.

My previous post had nothing to do with the current one.  Not only that, the last thread discussing home gyms, I stated that it would be better to get your weight plates locally because of the cost of shipping.

It doesn't matter if you buy your weight plates used because its not an item with moving parts.  Even if the weights are rusted, a little WD-40 and a brush will make them look as good as new.  However you need to have a sturdy weight bench so you don't get a serious injury from it collapsing under your weight.

Some people will buy new and some people buy used equipment so if you're going to buy used, then you should know what to get and what not to get.

Go on craigslist or backpage, you can find some great deals on free weights. Some people just give the stuff away free (they need the space).

Good point about those plates but that's not my point.
You were referring to Body Solid, not a brand with a good reputation on "quality". However this bench looks decent. Too bad it can only -18 degrees decline. That's not "decline" in my book.
