Title: Anyone else rooting for replacement players?
Post by: MB on April 01, 2011, 09:23:50 AM
The owners should wield their power and play with replacements.  I could care less who's on the field, just start football on time.  The players will come around real quick.

I was a freshman in college during the 87-88 season; 3 games were played with replacement players.  I remember when they would show replacement players going to and from practice, you could hear a lot of women yelling, "You're a bunch of scabs!!!"  I always laughed that it was the women (probably players' wives who were afraid of having to go back to giving $10 blowjobs at the truck stop or else find regular jobs) doing the yelling while the players cried themselves to sleep knowing their solidarity was crumbling.

I also remember Joe Klecko (sp) threatening to "punch in the nose" any player who crossed the picket line...then being among the first to do so.  What a fcukking hypocrite.

The '82 strike was brutal with only a 9 game season.  I think there are enough good players that replacements could be put in and still have pro quality football.  It looks like it's a moot point though, since Goodell has said there will be no replacements this time around.

People are ready to throw union workers to the streets and replace them in other jobs, it's a very well supported theme on the Politics board. If the NFL isn't good enough for the players, throw them out, there's millions of football players ready to try out and make 5% or less of what these guys make and work doing that for a living.

Let the fans pay $5 for a ticket and .50 for a beer and park for free, $10 for a team jersey, $5 for a hat. Get cheaper players and pass the savings on to the fan. We pay for everything anyway.

it would be ugly, i remember when steve largent crossed the line he needed the insurance because his wife was expecting.  he was way ahead of the single game receiving records but took himself out not wanting any records that way. read inferior competion.
