I just got my firearms license and I am looking to buy a rifle or shotgun.
I'm leaning towards the Russian SKS because it is so damn cheap ($200 CAD) and rounds go for $0.30.
Money isn't that big of an issue so I could pull out the CC and invest in a Benelli Supernova. This would run me up to $680-800 :-\ shells are also quite expensive.
Thoughts?

get a AK for less than the shitty benelli...shoots the same round as the sks...but is waaayy more fun and reliable...

AK's are over 2x the price, is it worth it?? Plus it's prohibited in Canada :(. That means I can only take it to the range and it's a hastle to transport
I also liked the Remington 700, the round it uses looks like a lot of fun
I'm a student so keep in mind this is like buying a car for me, huge deal!! :D
-
what university are you at so we can notify the proper authorities?
-
mossberg pistol grips are always a shitload of fun.
-
$2000 and you get what you need:
Shotgun - Mossberg 500 / Remi 870 - $350.00
Handgun - Glock 19 - $500
Rifle - Ak/AR - $500 - $1000
Ammo - $350

That looks sweet! The 700 is seriously powerful so maybe its worth the extra 500.
I'll have to go to the store and get a feel for both the guns
-
never underestimate a good can of pepper spray

the top one is stock....700P...the bottom one is a 700 action with a mike rock 5r barrel, with a m24 profile....nightforce optics(the best.), and i think thats when it had the HS stock on it..

Cliff Clavin at Getbig!? What took you so farkin' long!?
-
If money is not an issue why would you buy an SKS? It's a cheap rifle that was a precursor to the AK used by third world cannon fodder that couldn't get a hold of an AK.
Listen to Bench, the Rem 700 all the way.

the worst part about OC is that everytime you spray someone...it usually gets you too ;D
the best home defense weapon of this planet is a loyal dog....nothing can beat that...

I've grown to enjoy the effects of the pepper spray ricochet...its a good pain like after Leg day...
-
BTW, when I bought my SKS after the Soviet Union fell and their junk was flooding the market for dirt cheap it only cost about $55.00 out the door.

I love my guns. Each fucking time I go to the local shop I'm a kid in a candy store.
My current wish list is some sort of higher end 1911 and I've got an itch to build my own AR.
But, I just love shooting clays too fucking much. Last Saturday went through 300 rounds at the local range.
Plus here in Illinois it's a pain in the ass to find a good place to shoot rifles/pistols

That's a good point. I'll check out the 700 and see how it feels

That is one hell of a gun. I looked it up and they go for $2,350 in my area...fuck that lol. I'm not that well off

the 700 is fully customizable...if you dont like the one you pick up...you can change it anyway you want...it has as much aftermarket as a AR...its unlimited..
and the $2,350 is just for the stock, and action....its a swap barrel system....the barrel, bolt, and mags cost considerably more..

Was at the range this weekend with the AR, AK, 10-22, and a few others.
At 100 Yards I'm about 5" on the iron sights, less with the AR of course.
I try to be as good as I can w iron sights since TSHTF, iron sights will probably have to do.

need help finding this.. what i'm looking for is essentially the closest thing to a semi-auto MP5 chambered in anything between .22LR and 9mm. basically a short or tactical rifle, non high-powered. i would prefer something with a good accessory rail. anyone have any ideas?
closest things i have seen so far aren't much more than 10/22s with modified stocks or handguns with attachments which extend a stock and barrell length. i still haven't found a dedicated system like what im looking for. since i live in the communist state of md it will have to be something on the md firearms list. severely limiting but i won't be living here after a few more years.
-
under $400....my little cousin has one....you can not walk into a gun store anymore without seeing these things everywhere..

i have shot enough AR's in the last few years to completely hate them ;D
even the classes i have been teaching have been geared toward SASS systems from knight(piece of shit), and POF(love it)...

Do you now feel safer by having a "licence" and a "gun"?

No. It was never about safety, Canada is a very safe place. I know it's something im going to enjoy so why not give it a try?
Spend a little money a have a few more stories to tell.
