Title: Manny Ramirez retires
Post by: Coach is Back! on April 08, 2011, 04:51:09 PM
After testing positive for PED's, 100 game suspension, retired instead. This testing is going to not only kill baseball but football as well. Joe Biden is a fucking idiot!

what kind of idiot gets caught TWICE, seriously?  baseball contracts are guaranteed, he could have hit 5 home runs this year and he still would have gotten paid. Why even take the chance on getting caught AGAIN
is he really that stupid

My point being...your arguement(agreed) is that "fans" of professional sports won't recover from the inflated #'s and abilities that have been established from use of PED's. That, the hallmark of records that have occurred will never be touched again without PED's, will leave these "fans" unfullfilled.
That is just a sample of our excessive and spoiled society. This sickens me. I will totally appreciate the league leading 29 homeruns. I guess I'm old school. No wonder the divorce rate is 60% and most people are over-weight slobs making every excuse in the book for their shortcomings. Sickening...just sickening.

You want to remove gear, ok fine then get rid everything that's performance enhancing like caffine, red bull, monster, 5hr energy and anything else. You can make the arguement those are more performance enhancing than gear. Tim Lincicome is a known pot head, you going to make the arguement that weed is better for you than gear? They all cheat

A poor supposition at best and it is patently false.  Look, I am far too small to think something so outrageous and have admitted as much here.  I am just against recreational and performance enhancing drugs in sports and in life in general.   Look, as I recently stated I respect you and to be honest I am probably the last person you would want to try and insult here because I've had more childish names and insults thrown at me throughout my life (that happens when you're really tiny  ;D) and am more than capable of linguistically dissecting those that try. ;)

You are not one of those people.  Like I said before, I respect you but you and I shall just have to agree to disagree on this subject.  The choice is yours, young man.

Sadly, I am not so young, nor am I trying to hurl insults, I just have a difficult time understanding how people can be so opinionated about what others are doing when said actions have zero effect on them personally.
Albeit completely misguided, I can understand why people need to have a scapegoat to accept their own short comings, ie everyone was better cause I was clean and they weren't, biden is a good example of this, but your case is therefore even stranger to me.

A robbery on the other side of town wherein someones life is taken has no effect upon anyone other than the victim.  It is still a crime and you are selected for the jury but as the crime in question has had zero effect on you personally you must recuse yourself because your opinion is invalid.  This in spite of it being a felony.

Someone runs a red light and they just miss hitting  your car, but since it has no lasting affect on you no one should care.  It was still breaking the law and a LEO was present but decides against writing a ticket because you were not personally affected in an manner that will last more than a few minutes at best.  No harm, no problem.  Again, in spite of it being a genuine offense you were not personally affected (i.e., harmed in any real way).

You are mugged but they drop the money as they run away.  They are caught within minutes but the police decided to let them go because after all,  you still have your money and they didn't actually harm you.  Yup, you guessed it.  You were not personally affected.  No harm and you still have your money.

We cannot pick and choose the laws you obey.  You can state that steroid use is nothing compared to my analogies, but it is against the law to use them without a prescription and they are banned from many sporting activities/competitions.  We can rail against laws and quite possibly break them either in protest or as a matter of personal habit or disregard (and many people do) or we can work to have them changed or removed but that is up to we the people and our system of government.

A friend of mine once told me that different people have different levels of disgust.  By that he meant that we all tolerate that which is immoral or illegal according to our personal level(s) of disgust.  It has nothing to do with being "better" than anyone else, instead it is based upon what we will or will not accept as good and evil or right and wrong.  I think PEDs are cheating no matter if one or everyone engages in them.  I think murder is murder and robbery is robbery.  Morality is not really all that relative with the caveat of again, what a person is personally willing to overlook.  Or not.  It really is that simple.

Ciba was handing out DBOL in 1960 to doctors and "athletes". Rumors are that Roger Maris and other Yankees used it throughout the 60's. Check out Maris's home run numbers. There's no way that guy should have hit 61 home runs in 1961.

But thats not true.  That robbery across town which claimed a life, that was my father who was killed.  I am now a victim of that crime.  And yes, if there are laws on the books that serve no purpose other than to create crimes absent of a victim, I would absolutely take them off the books.

Abominable Snoman, you tell more lies than Pinnochio.

I guess ex MLBaseball pitcher of the early 70's Tom House is a liar also ::)

The 1963 Chargers were the first full "team" to start playing around with Ciba's dbol. They handed out packets of dbol to the guys. Everyone openly talked about it. However some baseball players reportedly had their hands on some a couple years before that. MLB has done everything to keep that secret a secret. ;)

Check out MLB's Tom House's wiki. Says tons of players in the 70's were using steroids/hgh. Hank Aaron just happened to play on the same team as Tom in 1974. Hank Aaron is an asshole for not telling the truth about what the players in the 60's and 70's were doing IMOP

Where in my "example" did you see that the "victim" had children?  Such a variable was never included by myself.  As to your other statement, I would definitely remove archaic laws that no longer dealt with genuine crimes.  Drugs are generally a crime that encompasses many "victims" if you will.  Just as alcohol use touches many lives outside alcoholics themselves, so do does drug use including PEDs.  For the record I am against bench/squat/deadlift "suits".  Why?  They are cheating.  It is not the body doing the lift but the body artificially assisted by a "suit".

You and I could continue to try and counterpoint each other into oblivion.  I will never rationalize or justify so-called "recreational" drugs or PEDs.  For me, such things are for the weak minded.  If I can't build the physique I want with what nature has given me, then I will build the body I am capable of with what nature has bestowed upon me and it will have come from within myself and not a syringe or bottle.

There is more to be said for that than for any 23 inch, drug built, oil filled arm or 1000 lb. neoprene suit assisted bench press.  Some people want more than they are capable of doing on their own.  For them there are drugs and lifting suits.  For the rest of us there's health and the satisfaction of having built our strength and bodies ourselves.
