Title: Tiger making a comeback...
Post by: Coach is Back! on April 10, 2011, 12:38:39 PM
As of this post he's only one back of McIlroy. Love him or hate him, he's still the greatest golfer thats ever played the game.

We'll see.  I rather think that new young lad is up and coming, but anything can happen overnight.  Early days.

I do think though that Mr Woods is unlikely to make a huge comeback.  He ought, i think, retire whilst ahead and can salvage his name.  Kinda like Federer in the tennis?  You've won 20 times already, you were the best in the entire world for a decade.  Now retire.  Please don't do an Elvis and get ugly and fat and die.  Leave us whilst you're still looking good?  You've made gazillions.

Dunno.  Perhaps golfers still have it and can and will win till they're past 40.
xL

no way was Tiger Woods the greatest ever golfer.  He was good, yep, in fact truly splendid at his best.  But never the greatest.

Not the greatest ever....Jack still owns that title.  Tigger hasn't won ANYTHING, much less a major in 19 months and counting.  Let him break Jack's record, then we'll talk.

So glad he lost, don't care about him, but his fans are annoying as fuck, sorry coach.

You can also make a case for Lee Trevino.

Golf aficionados say tigers success came in an era of weak overall competition, while jacks success came during the greatest era of golf.

Something to think about.

Exactly.  Jack was up against Palmer, Trevino, Player, etc... every week.  With Tiger during the 90's, it was occasionaly Phil and not much of anybody else consistently.  Not to mention Phil is most likely the only other player from that era who will be in the Hall of Fame.  In the last 5 yrs the level of play has risen with all the young guys who aren't intimidated by Tiger and his winning has dropped off dramatically.

flair is an entertainer. true athletes would be jimmy brown, john unitas, michael jordan, wilt chamberlain, willie mays, hank aaron and men of that ilk.tiger woods shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as these true legends.

just another sign of the time tiger woods pulls out of a golf tournament because he  barely tweeked his knee,oh my. guy in a hockey game last night got his head SLAMMED into the glass his face was all bloody, yet he returned to action the same game. i guess golf is too brutal to play when your not at your best.
