Actually, Stars and Full Tilt were almost definitely not. Huge player pools paying billions in rake yearly, absolutely no reason to mess with that. The smaller sites, yes for sure. But anyone dumb enough to play on those deserved what they got (ok, not the initial guys like Booth and Prahlad, but the later ones who played after knowing the history).

This is shady.. there are other ways for players to deposit real money.

"The companies allegedly arranged for the money from U.S. gamblers to be disguised as payments to hundreds of non-existent online merchants for the purchase of items such as jewelry and golf balls, according to the indictment."

This was only done because the US government has deemed online poker to be illegal. Billions of US dollars willingly and happily spent playing, but the government decides that its no ok so the owners are forced into 'fraudulent behavior'.
Now we can all sit back and watch the 'justice system' and work, blowing millions of dollars so that we can sleep well at night knowing nobody is playing online poker.  ::)

I have a buddy that's basically somewhere on the scale like Alex23 here in T.O he was offered $300,000 a few years
ago (6,7) to write the code for an offshore gambling site, they implied that he was to make the odds/variables very easy to change/control, he declined the offer as he didn't want his reputation stained.

I have always been suspicious of gambling online. Did it once for fun but never caught the bug.

You never know what these crooks will do. Authorities can't keep check on them all the time.

'Authorities' shouldnt have to.  How about personal responsibility and play at your own risk?

The #1 biggest problem in the world, nobody is taught to take personal responsibility.

You better wear a robcguns shirt when you go. I've never seen anyone in the room with 22" guns and I, too, play there weekly. Also, you don't make $1500/week there. Very few of us do, and we know each other.

I've got to disagree. The machinations of how the sites remove the rake are relatively unknown to the public. How is anyone to say what parts are rake and what parts are deposit money? The indicator is how able a site is to pay out players who are cashing out. What I know is myself and a vast majority of my peers have little to no difficulty (and the only difficulty is occasionally a payment method is deleted, cancelling a payment and must be re-submitted through another form) cashing out.

I've cashed out 109 times on Pokerstars in 3 years. I've had one lost check which they re-issued. Later I used bank wire and got every payment within 5 business days.
