why are they hindering the government from collecting the estimated 330 billion in unpaid federal taxes in fiscal year 2010
this is almost 10 times the amount of money that was finally cut from the current budget agreement and it wouldn't even require a tax increase
The Obama administration wanted 600 million in additional funds to try to work on collecting 330 billion (not a bad investment) and the Repubs said NO
In fact, by denying the additional 600 million the IRS estimates it will reduce federal tax revenues by 4 billion (in addition to the 330 billion)
The Repubs would rather INCREASE the deficit in order to score an ideological victory.
I don't really believe the Repubs give a rats ass about the deficit or this country
All they care about is bilking this country for as much as they can for themselves and their uber wealthy patrons

Like ge and goldman sachs?
you already know how I feel about those two (especially GS though GE is a close second) but to answer you question...... yes like GE and GS and probably thousands of other corporate tax cheats and probably a few million individual tax cheats
330 billion + added to the deficit through lost tax revenue is owed and uncollected and that's just for 2010.
from the GAO link:
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as of the end of fiscal year 2010, the balance of reported unpaid federal taxes was about $330 billion.

Those numbers are pure speculation and if only a fraction hired cpas and tax lawyers to contest it - the supposed revenue would turn into nothing more than clogged court rooms, endless litigation, etc.
We need a low flat tax wo deductions or set offs and be done w it.

the 330 billion owed and not paid it not pure speculation and even if the other figure of 4 billion was cut by 50% it would still be 4x return on the cost invested

Straw - I do debt collection litigation for a living. Many of these accounts are long gone and there is little or no money to be gotten. Yes on paper it says 300 billion, but the real amount that is collectible is probably a fraction of that at best. Of course we should go after the deadbeats and low hanging fruit, so why not shift the loney for 16000 irs agents under bama care for this?

I guess they could do that except for the fact that they don't exist and that false claim has been bouncing around the right wing world and OF COURSE you would believe it without even bothering to check the facts.
just another neocon lie that you swallowed and regurgitated
how about this. Everytime you get the urget to parrot some right wing claim why don't you do just a little bit of research first.

IBM exec offers to save $900 billion in health care costs, but Obama turned him down
The Washington Examiner ^ | 02/02/11 | By: Barbara Hollingsworth
The CEO of IBM offered the Obama administration a free software program that would have cut Medicare and Medicaid fraud by almost a trillion dollars, but he was turned down – twice.
"We could have improved the quality and reduced the cost of the healthcare system by $900 billion...I said we would do it for free to prove that it works. They turned us down, "IBM chairman and CEO Samuel Palmisano said during a Sept. 14, 2010 taping of the Wall Street Journal’s Viewpoints program.
FOX News confirmed that a second meeting between Palmisano and Obama administration officials yielded the same result: "No thanks!" – even though the proffered "fix" would have eliminated 90 percent of the nation’s health care deficit – and cost taxpayers nothing it didn’t perform as guaranteed.
Yet Medicare/Medicaid fraud is still rampant. According to the Manhattan Institute’s Steven Malanga,"abuses of Medicaid (alone) eat up at least 10 percent of the program’s total cost nationwide -- a waste of $30 billion a year. Unscrupulous doctors billing for over 24 hours per day of procedures, phony companies invoicing for phantom services, pharmacists filling prescriptions for dead patients, home health-care companies demanding payment for treating clients actually in the hospital -- on and on the rip-offs go."
Now that Republicans are trying to repeal Obamacare and drastically cut federal spending at the same time, perhaps Palmisano can be persuaded to offer his services again.

Agreed. I think the real issue is how much each new agent will actually bring in. If they can show it pays for itself and then some, I say go for it.
But, if you read the GAO report that Straw linked to, a lot of the problem appears to be systemic issues in the law, rather than needing more agents. They need to change the law to get these people and 10, 20, or 500 more agents won't help anything.
