Arnold Schwarzenegger has been busy since he left the California governor's office in January.
Among other things, he's traveled to South America with director pal James Cameron; attended a Scorpions concert in Moscow with former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev; and been immortalized as a comic book superhero known as The Governator.
But while his life seems pretty great from the outside, Schwarzenegger confesses in the latest Newsweek that he has trouble looking at himself in the mirror these days--though it's not because of the sorry fiscal shape in which he left California. Rather, it seems the 63-year-old ex-governor is having trouble coming to terms with the fact he's getting old.
"I feel terrific about where I am in my life, when I look back at what I've accomplished," the former governor tells Lloyd Grove. "But I feel so sh*tty when I look at myself in the mirror."
Indeed, Schwarzenegger is a long way from his days as Conan the Barbarian. He's heavier, and his perpetually spray-tanned face is accentuated with crow's feet. But he's still in decent shape for a guy his age--not that Schwarzenegger sees that.
"I'm not competing, I'm not ripping off my shirt and trying to sell the body," the former governor frets. "But when I stand in front of the mirror and really look, I wonder: What the f*ck happened here? Jesus Christ. What a beating!"
Ironically, Schwarzenegger's comments come just a few months after his oldest daughter, Katherine, authored a book aimed at helping young women deal with body-image issues. In her book, Katherine Schwarzenegger, who is 20, admitted that she had been "self-conscious" about her weight and other issues during high school, but, with the help of her parents, had come to embrace both her inner and outer beauty.
It's a favor she might have to repay to her father, who is apparently coming to grips with his own body issues.

Time waits for no man. What comes around, will go around.

Props to him for being honest.
Hate it when people are like "Oh well I'm falling apart - but it's ok."
-
I call bullshit. Arnold wouldn't say such things.

But can't you see that some people are able to just accept it? You can't do anything about it, so why not just roll with it?

How old are you?
-
the time to worry is when you can't pull quality vag based on your looks alone (and not your pocketbook.)
-
His lack of willpower is sickening!!!!! Why doesn't he workout and follow the wavelength diet?!
-
some trenbolona and ghona will get him back on the horse, look at stallone, he can do it too.
-
How old are you?
I'm 24, and feel old as shit. ;D
-

I'm 33.
Don't worry - Aids is just a number.
-
Maybe Arnold didn't take care of himself well enough
-

seems to be legit
-
Time takes care of all of us eventually. I can understand how he feels though. Shit, I felt like 50 years old in my mind when I was 22... Dont really care for getting too old either. I would rather just die for a cause or something instead.

Great scene - beautiful music.

Probably harder to roll with it when you're a former 7-time Mr. Olympia. He was at the top of the mountain.

X2
I'm on the same boat.

and when he wanted the food it was there.
-
The hair coloring was a clue... ::)
-
Props to him.
As long as he doesn't throw in the towel.
Granted, Clint Eastwood didn't "sell his body" -- but some of his best movies have been made just recently. Arnold needs to get back to that... and get back in the best shape possible.
So what if he has a few wrinkles. He's still the pioneer of badass.

hey wait, what if arnold is gh15.....

Accepting when you really have no choice doesn't necessarily mean you are happy or "good" with it. If someone loses a child in a tragic accident they eventually have to accept it if they want to get on with their life but it doesn't mean they are OK with it. There are just certain harsh realities in life.
Of course there are some, in the case of appearance, physical shape and health, that really don't give a crap regardless their age. Arnold is the greatest and most successful bodybuilder of all time. It is one of the things that defines him. I don't think he is unaware how many are paying close attention to his appearance. Even on the main stream news they will comment how much he's aged while in office. And every bodybuilding board on this planet will always comment when his latest pic is posted on how he looks. It's not surprising that he is not over joyed that the ravages of age is taking it's toll.
Age is not all in the mind. It's actually mostly in the body. My mind still has fire and drive my body prefers to remain motionless.

I feel the same since I turned 18---I guess thar is the reason why people think I'm 22...
If you have a young mind, and good genetics (my parents are in their late 60s, but look better than most in their late 40s or 50s), things are okay....getting older is a process, and when one remembers that one is never too old to learn, to laugh, or to make mistakes, one grows older "slower".
-
I can totally relate to Arnold....when he was my age he was still in great shape....But when you get OLD old....like late 50's early 60's ....and its OVER, That must really suck.
Especially for the greatest BBer of all time...multiply how shitty you are going to feel by a thousand.
-
everywhere he travels, people are probably like "Make a muscle, arnold!"
He's flexed his entire life. now he has smaller arms than the kid carrying his luggage to his $4,000 per night hotel room.
-
Arnold should quit complaining and hit a cycle.
-
agree.
why the hell not? jump on 500mg of test a week and some GH and finish out the next 10-15 years strong.
i would if i were him. shit. why not?
-
1st time AS has sounded so negative about himself.

Isn't dying for a cause the same as death by assisted suicide.
-
sources? ::)
-
Well if there would be any negative about looking better than a greek god most part of your life it would be getting older seeing how all that falls apart. Happens to all of us I guess but for a guy that got attention and fame from his apperance it must be worse. Happens to all of us no point in dwelling in it..
-
the problem is no drug lasts for ever, even fame.
-
No problem.....one more Schwarzenegger is on the way..... 8) 8) 8)

He should read Flex and M&F they have cool articles on how bodybuilding keeps you young and fit in your 60's.
WHHHOOOSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
-
Arnold is Arnold. He is the exception to every rule.
-
what shnype threw in there that he left CA in sad fiscal shape? The democrat legislature did that the scumbags. Arnold kicked ASS
He simply needs to ask himself
WHAT IS BEST IN LIFE?
-
Arnie is not "over" by any means. He just needs to focus a little differently on his priorities and use what he's got.
He will still surpass anyone here with what he has left.
