the rest of the USA?
I have often wondered what people thought of this, especially non-NYCers.
Off the top of my head, the easy ones are: 1. most expensive city in the US, 2. highest population 3. most culturally diverse
I am curious to know other people's opinions.

People are in such a hurry in NYC...It's like they aren't scared of running into cars.

Taxi cabs...
According to the comprehensive New York City Taxicab Factbook, published by the city's Taxi and Limousine Commission, as of March 2006 there were 12,779 yellow medallion cabs prowling the city.
However, an additional 22,900 car-service vehicles, 10,400 "black cars," and 4,200 limousines also race around the streets, re-enacting scenes from "Road Warrior." So that makes more than 50,000 automobiles schlepping Big Apple residents from the Bronx to the Battery and back again. And yet, just try to find one in the rain.
Some other cab culture tidbits from the Taxicab Factbook:
In 1907, 65 taxis serviced the entire city
In 2005, 942,900 drivers were licensed to drive cabs
The average fare is $8.65 and 2.8 miles ($10.34 with surcharges and tips)
New York's fare is 11th highest among the 14 U.S. cities with 1,300 or more metered cabs
In 2005, drivers averaged $158 in take-home pay per shift
And by far, the MOST important fact:
Drivers from Pakistan and Bangladesh make up 14% each of total cabbies; those from Haiti and India 10% each; those born in the U.S. 9%

Wish I could. I live in Woodawn section of the Bronx. Business and family considerations keep me here w the animals. My dream is a ranch in montana or idaho on a lake and hunt and fish and never be heard from again.
I can operate my business online no problem at all and my client could care less so long as I get them what they want.
Even tough am a guido from the Bronx, I probably get along better with rednecks and hicks more than anything. I'm tired of this shit. Day in and day out its like the concrete jungle.

The Mafia.
The Mafia is nearly non-existent in 2011 but in the movies. Trust me, I grew up in the Bronx and know a bunch of these idiots. Its good TV and screenplay but little else.

I hear you. Been to NYC many times no way I could live there. I got to see some trees and grass and drive a car. Now changing from that environment will be a withdrawal being there so long expectations will be forthcoming.

Living 100 feet from the beach in sunny southern CA I would never give a shit about new york.
NYC has biggest asshole density ever, people are pasty and pissed.
On the other hand you don't ned a car if you setup in manhattan and the saved $$ goes to rent so tradeoff.
you can get a decent slice of pizza.
I just can't handle the siberia weather after grwoing up in boston never going back to that.

I grew up in the city and didnt realize until I moved away to college what pussys people are.
They are for the most part all talk, and they are the most neurotic paranoid people in the world... And NYc has a lot of "bad energy" bad vibes...
It wasn't until I went to college with dudes from NYC did I realize how much they were all talk, all bluff, and wanted to remind everybody that they were NYC--meanwhile drug dealers and thugs from NYC were getting murdered in Bodymore...all they had to say was, "I'm from NYC", and bullet goes in their head.
Most corrupt police force in the nation. And the places of the city like Manhattan remind people what America has become---all image, no soul...you find the true essence of the cancer that is plaguing America.
In short, there is a cosmic reason why 9/11 happened in NYC, not just ecomonic
That being said, If we are talking NYC, great place to shop, and that's it. But, it shows the world, what not to become. Bad air quality, and people live like ants...and don't know how to drive.
Upstate NY great place...a sense of calmness, less hurried

Yes I'm sure every drug dealer from NYC that goes to Baltimore gets killed ::)
Where do you come up with this shit? a girl a work told you?

"If I'd lived in Roman times, I'd have lived in Rome. Where else? Today America is the Roman Empire and New York is Rome itself." - John Lennon

Who is this gangsta lean retard? ::)
Anyway, what differentiates NYC from the rest of the world, is that douchebags on the internet who have never been here won't start threads about what makes other cities different from other places on earth.
Having been here since birth, it has a lot of good things, but mostly bad. Too expensive, too noisy, too much stress and bullshit, the subways are disgusting and are operated by baboons, too many funny accents and fire hydrants.
It also isn't a very comforting thought to know that when the Arab Muslim Nazi's attack the United States again there is a good chance that you and your loved ones will die.

Nope, it's a a well known fact that dealers from NYC come down to Baltimore due the heroin trade--heroin is big down here, but because Baltimore is considered "The South", people think that these people down here are "slow", and the first thing a mofo does is shoot off his mouth, "Im from NYc (add Brooklyn, Boogie Down Bronx, etc).
When I went to college, many of the NYC dudes tended to be slick like a used car salesman or had a inflated ego about thmselves. The women, they had a lot of game, and thought that they were the shit---there was constant beef between them and PG County girls...
Whe I got out of college, working with and interacting with people from NYC, you see that they over react to common everyday scenarios and complain alot, or they always trying to play slick, think that they are better because they are from NYC...now some were chill, so I can't say all...but many either have a giant chip on their shoulder and exhibit severe neurotic behavior, or have a inflated ego, or remind you of a cheap used car salesman who is trying to sell you a Yugo and makes it out to be a Ferrari (and this was a dude who undergrad at NYC and graduate school at Columbia).

I was over exaggerating...I meant was when they come with that, "Im from NYC muthefvcker, and what!!!!" attitude, when something goes down (many times started by the same attitude, when things could be just chill).

There's never been any words spoken more true. Thats Why Timmy came to the NYC. We train in the Heart of the Beast Time Square.
And think about how the Roman Empire fell...same deal...
"The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers", by John Kennedy---essentially the bible on what happens. Yet, like the bible, people tend not heed what is in it, until it's too late...

The heart of the beast is probably parts of 5th or Park Avenue.

I know I would never want to live in NYC. Fuuuuuck that.
NYCer's usually have a very abrasive and annoying vibe. Usually they are foul-mouthed and angry.
Live in a huge city full of people like that? No thanks.
I think most big cities in the USA suck for living though. In the USA it's much nicer to live in a smaller city.
