im 54, weigh in at 260, and strong as a ox. but, i have to climb 5 flights of stairs everyday to get to a roof top to check out some air conditioning. by the time i get to the roof, im really breathing hard. i cant talk for about 2 minutes as i keep walking on the roof. i finally get my breath back, and im fine.
i lift 5 days a week, for 50 minutes. i end each work out with 10 minutes on the treadmill, probally slow running for 6 minutes and 4 minutes of fast walking.
(its not much cardio i know) should i drop a lifting day and make it a staight cardio day? should i run outside, or is the teadmill ok. shoud i do interval training on the treadmill? or just try and run as long as i can? thanks for any info.

You need to fuck more. Trust me. I'm a doctor.
-
ahh geee ::)
-
You need to elevate your heart rate for at least 15-20 minutes to get any cardiovascular benefits. 10 minutes of slow running is fine for burning some kcals but you probably aren't getting any adaptational benefits from it.
Try cycling maybe? 15-20 minutes of moderate running is tough for a 260-pounder.
-
Invent a time machine and go back 20-25 years.

Next time u go up to the rooftop, jump off.

What exactly does "260 and strong as an Ox "mean? Are you 40% bodyfat and can bench 190?
-
yeah, and if you're so strong (like an ox ::)), you're 54, you're 260lbs and you know everything about building that mass, I'm sure you know thing or two about doing some god damn fucking cardio! Just go run some hills, swim... do that 2-3 times a week, sprint, you will get your wind back ::)
this man is 54 years old, 260lbs solid steel and strong like an ox, but he has no idea how to do cardio, please help him, he's been living in a bodybuilding dungeon his whole life! What are the odds.

it means that i can incline bench three plates 6 times with no spotter. i can do 120s for dumbell shoulder presses, ect. im not in bad shape. i still have some abs. its not easy running at 260. my knees kill me. but im not happy with my cardio. im thinking about hitting the beach one day a week for a sand workout.

maybe look at slimming down via diet?

how does moving a lot of weight = decent shape?
drop some weight buddy
-
shorten rest times b/w sets to 30-45 seconds
-
"I still have some abs" - you certainly do. too bad there's about 20 lbs of fat covering them. ;D
-
Get a cardio monitor, I like the ones that strap around the chest and send to a wrist display. Do cardio of your choice,...I prefer a ten speed bicycle mounted on a "wind trainer", mine is a squirrel cage fan connected to the back wheel,...put it in front of a TV, with DVDs of your choice,...raise your heart rate to a mere 130 beats a minute for only five minutes the first day, use a timer so you don't be a clock watcher.
Wait a day, then do it again for 6 minutes, wait a day and so forth, adding one minute each time. After several weeks you are going thirty to forty minutes non stop,...now you start raising your heart rate a little each time until its around 150-170 beats a minute,...when you are doing 30-40 minutes at 150-170 a minutes every other day,...those stairs won't mean much...
It's important to have the TV with programming you enjoy,...no tedium then.
-
HAHA, look at the clown shrugging the 10kg dumbells next to him ;D
-
run 1 mile for time daily
when feel stronger
run 20 x 100m sprint daily
-
Why are you wearing a fanny pack?Is it to try and hide your 40inch waist?

This.
Drop 20-40lbs, gain piles of athleticism. Also, as with anything, practice, I'd be tons of boring steady state cardio if I were in your shoes, adding a bit, till I was satisfied with my conditioning.

Did anyone else get a flashback to the movie Sleepers when you saw those old men in that Dingy room with those young boys?Do people like this really exist? If they were British people Id be 100% sure it was satire but sadly I fear its reality for these tools
-
Haha look at these clowns
That looks like 2 high school freshmen who joined the wrestling team with no prior experience or any kind of athleticism.
I know plenty of these type of douchebags who live and breathe ufc and tapout tshirts but should really put their talents into "motorsports" and drinking beers in the backwoodss while slinging mud in their lifted 4x4

"the Thunderdome" looks like John Wayne Gacy's garage, Im betting old "Judochoke" is no stranger to Gacy's handcuff trick :-X

I can't believe you kids are telling a 260lb. 54 year old man to do wind sprints. Are you trying to kill him?
First of all you are to big. Unless you are 6'6". You rarely see a 260lb 70 year old alive. Second you could have a serious blockage of one or more of your arteries. Get a walking stress ekg. Maybe a 64 slice artery scan of your arteries.
If the doctor gives you the ok start walking fast on a treadmill. See if you can walk at 3.8 mph. If that's to fast, work out the speed for yourself. First quarter mile lap do 3.8 on a level elevation. Second lap at 1% elevation. Third at 2%. The goal is to see how far up the elevation ladder you can get.
Say you get to your third quarter mile lap a 2% and your getting close to exhaustion. Make your final lap on level elevation for your final lap. Your goal eventually is to make it up to elevation 12% by going up 1% for every quarter mile. Do the work out a minimum of 4 times a week.
I ran track in high school and college. I severly hurt my arm a while back and I couldn't run because the jarring hurt my arm. I did the above workout to level 12% almost every day. When the arm was out of the sling I went for a run. I ran like a deer being chased by a mountain lion. Walking can kick your ass if done right.
At your age don't be concerned so much with strength that you neglect conditioning.

When you are short of breath/breathing heavily, do you breath whistle? If so, you could have asthma of COPD. Stop smoking, get some treatment, you be fine.

54 and 260? Brotha, trust me when I tell you,any one that is that big at that age is not sprinting..
Lose weight.. Unless you need to be that big for whatever reason(strongman, pro bodybuilder),you will have that problem forever.. You can be 225/230 and still be the biggest strongest guy around.. You will also feel better..
-
All he wanted was some good advice from the guys. :'(
He's gotten plenty of good advice, calm down Gloria.
-
Definitely lean out like everyone is saying. You could drop down to 225-230 and not loose much of that strength. Also do interval training to get your heart rate up and cut down. Keep it up, I hope I'm still doing this at 54
